This book was different than expected. It tells a lovely story, but the illustrations are a bit out there and the story doesn't seem very plausible. In the end, I'm not sure what message kids should get from this.
What a sweet children's story! It’s especially funny to me because my son loves sweet potatoes! I definitely think he would love the illustrations in this book. It’s an easy to read and follow along story for little ones. Thank you NetGalley for the arc!
This is an installment in a series, but can be read stand-alone. Little Sweet Potato doesn't like living like all the other screech owls in her family. Grumpy Iguana tells her an important message about following the advice of parents as they have ones best interest at heart. A simple story for picky eaters and kids who don't want to go to sleep at bedtime.
*I read children’s books to my service dog.
He love this book, it has sweet potato French fries, (our favorite) and family, and the moral is something we talk about a lot being a working dog. He was completely focused with this book before bed.
He recommends it to all kids who like owls and sweet potatoes & fries.
I enjoyed this little story, it had so many thing we like or talk about in our house.
The story is fun and has great information about owls. The illustrations are simple, but engaging for children.
The story has a great ending that teaches children to listen to their parents because they are always looking out for what is best for them.
This picture book tells the story of Uncle Grumpy the Iguana and his niece, an owl named Sweet Potato. Grumpy and Sweet Potato get in trouble when Mama Owl finds out that they played together during the day, when Sweet Potato should have been sleeping. Despite being a fiction picture book, the author was able to bring in lots of information about owls, such as how owls are nocturnal. One downside I found is that it does have some hard words that I do not think were necessary and would be tough for a lot of young readers, such as "concluded". While introducing new vocabulary to young readers is important, using more simplified words where possible helps make a text more accessible to younger and struggling readers. Each page has 1-3 sentences, with interesting illustrations that seem like they may have been painted using water colour paint. I would recommend this book to teachers and families of children in the 4-7 age range. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Sweet potato is the child of mr. Screech owl and mrs. Screech owl. She has brothers who like to play bug games, she however doesn’t like them. She also doesn’t really like to eat bugs, much rather would she like to eat sweet potato and mangos. In the Morning when she is supposed to go to sleep she sneaks away to her uncle grumpy the iguana. Who then spends the day with her.A cute and fast read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Sweet Potato is the daughter of Mr Screech Owl and Mrs Screech Owl. She is really cute, and a bit rebellious, as she sneaks away from her nest when she is meant to be sleeping with her parents. She goes to visit Uncle Grumpy the Iguana, as she loves hanging out with him. He takes good care of her, but Mrs Screech Owl is worried about her. The lesson in this book is that you should listen to your parents and carers, as they only want the best for you, and you shouldn't go away from them when you are meant to stay close to them.
This is a great book, which has lovely graphics and sweet characters. I love all of the Grumpy the Iguana books, and I always enjoy reading them.
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you, The Gourmet Dog LLC, for the advance reading copy.
This is such a cute story featuring basic illustrations and easy to follow characters.
I would suggest to use less dark deep colours for the illustrations. Otherwise it's a fun read for the kids.
Sweet Potato was such a sweet story of the relationship between a young owl, Sweet Potato, and her uncle, Grumpy, a lizard. I loved the illustrations- they were bright but simple. I liked the heartwarming story and how Sweet Potato's parents were worried about her!
The continuation of Mr. Screech and his sweetheart's story! This one is about their daughter who refused to be owl and just want to be iguana instead. This is interesting because the story is like potraying rebellous teenager. I like it.
