First book of this author for me, but I did enjoy it, and was quite taken by the story. Will read more by the author in future.

A strange book for me, as I began reading and taken into the story, but I soon became a little bored by it and decided that I had had enough and moved on to another on the shelf.
It is one I may go back to, but there are others on the shelf that I know will bring more enjoyable reading.

Never a dull moment ...
Galway, Ireland, 2010

Taxi driver Ben Miller is minding his own business, driving his fares to their destination when the murder of a friend has him looking for her killer. His friend Meili, a sex worker, has been brutally murdered and the handbag she always kept with her, together her record of clients, is missing. Meili’s friend Qiang joins Miller, and it quickly becomes apparent that Meili’s death is a result of gang warfare. But which gangs? It seems that rival Chinese triads have joined those seeking to control Galway’s illegal gambling activities. Which means, of course, that Superintendent Máirtín Folan has a vested interest.

Miller seeks help from Gárda Aaron Dempsey (who, like Miller, would like to see Superintendent Máirtín Folan brought down). It all becomes complicated by sex trafficking, a hunt for Meili’s missing daughter and a trio of men who are (or once were) married to Meili.

This is the fourth novel in Mr Gibbons’s series of Ben Miller investigations and is just as fast moving as its predecessors. Part of the reason I keep reading is that I really want to see Superintendent Máirtín Folan get his just deserts.
