Dillon Young is proud that she inherited her aunt’s ranch. Still, she would have given it all back if she could have her aunt back. Hoping to escape the unhappy life she'd been living in the city, Dillon is happy for a chance to start over in a place she's known so much joy. But strange things keep happening and when she finds the gorgeous cowboy Cal Bennett passed out drunk on her property, Dillion is on high alert. Then, someone takes a shot at her and Cal jumps into action. Clearly, someone is not happy Dillon has accepted the ranch as her own, and now it is up to Cal to protect her. His plan? To pose as more than neighbors, as lovers until they can uncover the mystery behind the dangers that keep befalling Dillon and her property. A well-told tale of envy, murder, lust, and love, by the one and only Donna Grant.

I have not read a good cowboy romance in a while. This was exactly what I needed. A strong woman, Dillon, fighting to keep her ranch. In walks Cal, mystery hottie determined to protect her at all costs but not rule over her. I loved the story and little mystery. The romance was sweet and there was good spice. I would read more by this author. Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I listened to this book in audio and I can’t decide that if maybe that’s the reason why I didn’t like it or not? The mystery plot felt really dragged out within only a couple of days in the book. Maybe I could have read it faster? Does anyone ever feel like that?

Our hero wakes up one morning with a hangover from hell on the porch of a random house and a woman pointing her gun at him and no recollection of how he got there. Our heroine has inherited a ranch from her aunt and things are not going right on her property- her prize stud stallion has been stolen and a strange man is on her property sleeping. This as well as other strange goings on has her thinking that someone is out to sabotage her.

For me the plot in the book didn’t seem that realistic (and yes I’m aware that I read fantasy and paranormal romances) and the mystery was so dragged out that I genuinely considered DNFing.

This story sucked me in from the very beginning - danger, suspense, intrigue, and a hot cowboy - count me in! I loved the narrator and the life she brought to the story. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more Donna Grant stories!

The book was great, the characters were awesome. It was a very interesting storyline. It's different than her other books I have read in the past and I really liked it.

Monica King brings Donna Grant’s descriptive writing in That Cowboy of Mine to life with lively narration that vividly captures the novel’s emotion, excitement, danger, romance, angst, and suspense. King gives each character a distinct voice reflecting their personalities and feelings in each scene, doing a great job with its heroine and predominantly male characters. Her narration for the relatable and likable heroine Dillion and hero Cal amply captures their characters and the detestable villains. Although I’m not sure her accent is necessarily a Texan accent, I guess it’s a pretty standard western-sounding one.

Dillon is thrilled when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s ranch—the one place that feels like home to her, where she can be herself. Since inheriting the property, strange occurrences have ensued, as though someone’s trying to scare her off. Dillon’s received several firmly rejected offers, and the circumstances have become more menacing for her safety with each rejection. She suspects neighboring wealthy ranch owner Hank Stephens, who hasn’t kept his interest in her property a secret. He’s not a good guy who will do, or hire someone to do, whatever it takes to get what he wants.

Cal wakes up with a hangover and a beautiful woman standing over him with a shotgun, but he doesn’t know where or how he got he is. But after saving her from being shot, he’s more than willing to keep her safe while discovering who's after her ranch and why. He suggests they pretend to be lovers until they do. Sparks of attraction between Dillon and Cal gradually ignite into passion as the danger lurking at every turn places them in close quarters. Can Dillon trust Cal at his word that he wants to protect and keep her safe, or is he only with her working on behalf of her enemy to sabotage her ranch?

Although King’s narration nicely captures the characters and the emotional conflict within the novel and between the characters, I think I preferred reading the book to listening. After reading it first, the narrator’s accent and voice match the characters in my head. Nevertheless, thrilling, suspenseful, steamy, and angsty, That Cowboy of Mine is an entertaining audiobook with an intriguing mystery plot and complicated yet heartfelt romance recommended for contemporary western and romantic suspense fans who prefer listening to audio.

Dillon Young is happy to have inherited her aunt’s beloved ranch. Unfortunately, someone else is determined to have it for themselves and her refusal to sell has led to increasing dangerous accidents occurring around the ranch. Dillon is sure she knows who’s responsible, but she has no way of proving it, especially when the man has others to do the dirty work for him. Dillon’s guard is up so she’s incredibly suspicious when she finds handsome bull rider Cal Bennett passed out on her property, still drunk from the night before. He can’t remember what happened and has no idea how he came to be there, but when someone takes a shot at Dillon, Cal leaps to save her. When Cal offers to stay on the ranch and help her, Dillon reluctantly agrees, despite not completely trusting him.

Cal isn’t exactly thrilled to wake up in a strange place looking down the barrel of a shotgun, but the woman holding it is the most beautiful he’s ever seen. When bullets start flying, it becomes clear she needs his help even if she doesn’t want to admit it, so he suggests they pretend to be in a relationship as he tries to help her get to the bottom of the nefarious happenings on the ranch. The danger only intensifies as secrets come to light and the connection between Dillon and Cal becomes all too real, as is the threat to their lives.

I have never read this author before, so I went in unsure what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked this setting and the fast pace and suspense level of the story. We basically know who the villain is the entire time, but he’s hard to pin down and we don’t really know how the hero wound up on the heroine’s ranch, so the suspense level stays pretty high the whole time, despite this knowledge. Given the gaps in Cal’s memory, Dillon is never quite sure if she should trust him or not, but his wooing of her is sweet nonetheless, as is his protectiveness of her. Dillon is frustrating in her quickness to jump to conclusions about Cal while being oblivious to other possible dangers, but with people shooting at her and actively trying to kill her, her tendency toward hostility is understandable and makes her seem real rather than some unattainable version of strong womanhood.

I wasn’t terribly crazy about this narration just because sometimes the narrator’s voice lacked inflection and the delivery didn’t quite match what was going on in the scene. This perception, however, could also be due to the quality of the NetGalley shelf app as it does tend to have a tinny sound quality to it no matter what. Overall, I really liked this story and I think I’m going to be looking for more romantic suspense like this.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and its audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Cal Bennett wakes up with a shotgun in his face on Dillion Young’s ranch, not knowing how or why he is there. Dillion is aware that someone is trying to get her to sell the beautiful property she inherited upon her Aunt Dolly’s death. She is immediately skeptical of Cal’s presence until he saves her from a gunshot. Together they attempt to solve the mystery, but can Dillion really trust Cal with her ranch and her heart?

That Cowboy of Mine is a sweet, sassy love story with a good bit of thrills and suspense. Dillion and Cal have great, steamy chemistry, which makes their story believable and amazing. I enjoyed listening to the audio book, as the narrator brought the characters to life exactly how they should be.

That Cowboy of Mine AUDIO by Donna Grant is my favorite kind of romance: cowboys. this one woke up on the prairie, not remembering much about the night before and with a shotgun aimed at his head. It was disturbing. then he looked up and saw the beautiful woman aiming the gun and that was really disturbing. He had no idea what was going on. She explained, still holding the shotgun on him, that her prize stallion had been stolen the night before and he was her primary suspect. He'd never steal a horse, so he knew she was wrong. But, what had happened? He went back to her ranch house and barn and met her foreman, a decent older man and very concerned about Dillon. Cal apparently made them trust him because he was hired on the spot to guard Dillon. They tracked the horse to the border of her land and her neighbor's, just where she though he'd be.

This was a good story. It is the typical, someone wants her gone, dead or alive, story but Cal was a good character and a good man and they tracked down the killer before it was all over. There were some surprises involved, and sadly some deaths. The deaths were NOT Dillon or Cal so that was the good news. It was on-again, off-again with Dillon and Cal, both personally and professionally. The bad guys were really bad and would stop at nothing. It was charming, romantic, and frightening, all at the same time. It was a good read.

It was a better read than listening experience. Monica King was the narrator and I was not sold on her as the best choice. She stuck "accents" in where they weren't written and I found that annoying. She did OK with the different characters but I would rather read this book than listen to it.

I was invited to listen to a free pre-release audio version of That Cowboy of Mine by Tantor Audio, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #tantoraudio #thatcowboyofmine #donnagrant

That Cowboy of Mine by Donna Grant is a contemporary romance western. They have it Dylan who is the independent, sexy woman who inherited her grandma‘s ranch and then there’s the sexy cow Bennett her rich neighbor, who she believes is trying to run her off her grandma‘s ranch. When he finds himself waking up outside with a gorgeous woman holding a shotgun on him. At the very least he is confused, but when shots fired all he wants to do is protect the sassy woman. Dylan doesn’t know what to think if he’s trying to protect her, then who’s trying to kill her? She doesn’t want to give up her independence, but she find herself falling for the rich cowboy Ronaldo he has never thought of being tied down. Something about Dylan makes him think it might just be all right. I love romantic westerns and was excited to get this book. I thought the narration what’s the curb and I love that she didn’t overdo the voices and that you could tell the different characters in the narrative. This is a fun read if you like predictable romances. It has action and mystery that is also kind of predictable. Having said that it is a fun read and if you love those types of books you love this book. I was given this book but Net Gally and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Please forgive any grammatical or punctuation errors as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are my own

I can’t believe I’m going to say this but this Donna Grant book just didn’t hit home for me as much as her other novels. I mean, I liked it. I just didn’t feel the connection between the characters. The storyline was good. The book was well written with good conflict and backstory. I even liked both Cal and Dillon. I just didn’t get my usual feels from this story that I get from This author’s other stories. I still highly recommend this author’s books. I Huge thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.

This author is always amazing and in this story she delivers a suspenseful one with bad guys, a sexy cowboy good one, and a strong female lead. When Dillon Young inherited her aunt’s ranch and the. Refused to sell it accidents started. Then latest the disappearance of her prized stallion. While hunting for the horse she discovers Cal Bennett drunk and passed out on her land. Cal is smitten by Dillon at first sight while she struggles with weather she can trust him or not. As he offers his help in the ranch and finding the stallion, and the danger intensifies as bullets fly, so do feelings develop. The question is who can Dillon trust? There are a lot of twist and turn in this story so sit back and enjoy.
This was the first time I listen to Monica King and I enjoyed it.

After inheriting her aunt’s ranch Dillon is determined to make it profitable despite the offers to purchase the property. Suspicious activity seems to be happening on her land and now she finds a sexy cowboy passed out on the land and her stallion has been stolen which not only puts her life in jeopardy but the future of the ranch as well.

Cal isn’t sure what transpired the night before as he has never gotten that drunk before but he is intrigued by Dillon’s feisty personality. It isn’t long before he realizes she is in danger, and he is determined to protect her, but will he be able to convince her that she can trust him?

Suspense, surprises and steam as Dillon and Cal look to uncover the truth before it is too late. The performance of the narrator ensured that each character was an individual and it was easy to distinguish each point of view.

Ironically my pastor preached on Shame this past weekend, and I full on am a bit "Shamed" to admit that this was actually an enjoyable book.
I never read Cowboy Romance-like ever. Yes I read chick lit, but not romance let alone cowboy. However I was given this advanced copy by Netgalley and went in with an open mind. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this quick romance.
Cal is found on Dillon's ranch passed out drunk and her precious horse has been stolen. He is unsure how he ended up on her property or why, but the next thing she knows her life is in danger and she highly suspects her rich neighbor Hank has something to do with it. Hank has been pressing her for years to buy her property which she recently inherited from her deceased aunt Dolly. Unsure of why he wants the land so badly she is willing to fight to keep what is hers. Cal seems to be her knight in shining armor (Or should I saw cowboy in dusty flannel??) He swoops in and protects Dillon as her life seems to be in danger. As the two work together she begins to wonder who she can trust....

So this book would be more fitting if I was sitting at Myrtle Beach with a PBR (or other redneck beer of your choosing). Typical summer pot boiler for sure. You wouldn't want your kids or grandma seeing you read this one--the cover alone is steamy cheese. But all that being said for what it was, I enjoyed the story. Nothing shocking or major twist that I am use to with thrillers, but good enough story to keep my interest.

Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy of the audiobook. I was not reimburst in anyway for my honest opinion.

A cowboy romance mixed with suspense, what more could I ask for?
Grant writes fantastic romantic suspense cowboy romance and that stands true with her latest release, That Cowboy of Mine.
The characters’ first meeting certainly left an impression! Despite being held at gun point, Cal is head over boots from the moment he lays eyes on Dillon. Both are fun characters but I particularly liked Dillon. She’s in danger but never the damsel in distress.
The suspense served as a great way to keep the pacing quick and leave readers wondering how everything will resolve in time for the HEA.
I liked the narrator for the audiobook. Her voice worked for the tone of the story.
If you’re looking for romantic suspense, bodyguard romance, forced proximity, cowboy romance, and hero falls first romance give Grant’s new release a try!

I find this easier to listen to on a faster speed due to the narrator’s slow speech.
It was an easy to listen to cowboy romance.

Donna Grant is a new-to-me author, but I'm a sucker for cowboy romance.

I went in mostly blind, and I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed this one. I really loved Dillon, and how Cal is such a fierce protector. I loved the bit of mystery and suspense, and the twist at the end actually caught me by surprise. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs in this book, including those of the villains. There wasn't a lot of spice, but with everything else happening in the story, I think there was just enough.

Monica King narrated this audiobook. I've enjoyed her narration in other books, and I enjoyed it here as well. It was very easy to distinguish between different characters and emotions came across well. This was a great listen.

It was time for a cowboy romance with a suspense twist and this one was perfection. Cal woke up when he heard the sound of the rifle being cocked. He didn't know how he had ended up in the middle of nowhere on Dillon's ranch or who she was but he was glad he was there and saved her when the gunshots were flying. Dillon's horse was stolen and they team up to find out who stole it and why. Who knew it was so close to home.

That Cowboy of Mine
by Donna Grant
Narrated by Monica King

I received a digital copy of this audiobook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was also sent a widget for the kindle version of this book from NetGalley a good while back and did not realize this was the same book because the covers are different and I tend to request most of the romance audiobooks on NetGalley. Anyway.

I really enjoyed the narrator. She did an excellent job especially considering that most of the characters are male. Sound quality was also solid.

I had not read this author before but I like a cowboy/country western romance now and again being from the middle of no where myself. The book opens straight to action with our hero waking up in a field after a night of drinking unable to remember how he got there. Our heroine is pointing a shot gun in his face as he is on her land and her prize stallion is missing.

The synopsis notes that she has relatively recently inherited this ranch and he ends up working for her and there is a mystery of someone trying to sabotage/kill her. I’ve read some before that were very - she doesn’t know what she’s doing and it’s an enemies to lovers situation where he has to protect her and show her how to run a ranch etc however I was pleased to see that in this book she had a longstanding history with the ranch and was fully competent, knowledgeable and independent in her own right and our hero admired and respected that about her.

This is mid-low steam, half open door? Not tons of detail. Lots of action/adventure/mystery/intrigue. Trigger warnings - parent death, rodeo related death, manipulation

4/5

If you like a book that embraces multiple genres than this is for you. A little mystery, thriller, love story, HEA, with some corruption, deception, out and out lies, death threats and so much more. Dillon wants to live her life quietly running the ranch she inherited from her beloved aunt. She’s been incredibly clear that she doesn’t want to sell out to the narcissistic Hank who owns much of the surrounding area. She is content being alone and doing her thing. Would she like more, sure, but taking care of her ranch is her priority as she has learned to trust no one. As the threats become more forceful and the “accidents” on the ranch keep escalating she is worried. Then she finds Cal, on her property. He’s got zero idea of how he got there and unbeknownst to him, he is an integral part of a plot to take her land from her. Can she trust him? Not going to give anything away, but it is a romance so use your imagination! It’s an crooked, rough road to Dillon finally getting exactly what she wanted and needed in her life.
