The Anxious Perfectionist: How to Manage Perfectionism-Driven Anxiety Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy by Clarissa W. Ong, PhD; Michael P. Twohig, PhD. Narrated by Erin deWard

One of the best lines in the book is "the tyranny of the should." So true in a perfectionist's life is the I "should" be doing this, or I "should" do it this way. The other great bit of information is to acknowledge your thoughts as thoughts and nothing more.

I felt the information was presented well, had good examples and exercises, and I learned a bit of new information on how to reset my thinking.

The only thing that bothered me was sometimes the narrator's voice was wobbly or sounded off.

Overall, a good book with good information. I would recommend it.

If you are an anxious perfectionist you should read this book. It’s very practical and sheds light on how the strive for perfection is different depending on what kind of perfectionist you are. And how it can get in the way of growth and success. Lots of good information and I wish it existed years ago. Easy to understand and great, detailed information.

This audiobook ARC was kindly provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

“The Anxious Perfectionist” looks at the stimulators of perfectionism both from a positive (adaptive) and negative (maladaptive) viewpoint and comes up with recommendations for both situations. Depending on the reader’s relationship with perfectionism, the (audio)book can be either a light reading or one of the readings with which one will take their time. For me, it was an enjoyable reading and a reference book that I would like to go back to one day. For a scientific book, I found that, as opposed to other cases, the lack of cited works does not impact the quality of the content in the audio format. Also, a plus point are the exercises listed in the book and online materials which only increase the quality of the work.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Tantor Audio, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review.
