A fun return to the world of InuYasha! I loved seeing characters from the original series, and in some unexpected ways. Definitely recommended for long-time fans, although there is enough intro content that a new reader can catch up on the history pretty quickly.
Absolutely love this next chapter in the series! I grew up watching Inuyasha on Adult Swim (I know I'm aging myself). I was so excited to see that there is a spin-off with old and new characters. I'm steadily collecting the volumes. So good!
Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, Vol. 1 by Takashi Shiina is a great spinoff of Inuyasha. It's a fun fantasy great for longtime fans and newcomers to the series, and this first volume was promising, capturing a lot of the special spark of the original.
This was my first foray into the Inuyasha world and it really grabbed my attention. It could have been helpful to have known a little more about the world prior to reading it, but the author did a nice job creating a separate world that drew in other elements and allowed the story to stand on its own. The connection between the fairytale realm of Inuyasha and the "real" world through offspring is interesting and the new characters, Yashahime, in particular, are well-developed and easy to root for.
If you are an Inu Yasha fan then I would definitely say give this one a try! Even if you aren't though, this is a great manga. I really liked that there was a recap at the beginning of the book since it's been a while since I read/watched Inu Yasha. In this we follow the children of the characters from Inu Yasha, Towa, her twin sister Setsuma, and her cousin Moroha, as they attempt to save the world. Overall, I really enjoyed this and it brought back a lot of great memories from watching the show.
I am excited they are continuing the Inuyasha series, and this was a cute first volume!
I do wish it had more Inuyasha/Kagome in it, but I am sure there is more to come!
I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed this volume. I thought it was an interesting addition to the Inuyasha universe. I like how it mentions all the characters from the original Inuyasha series without making it all about them. It'll be interesting to see where this manga take these characters.
The art was enjoyable as well. The action was a little hard for me to follow sometimes, but other than that, it was a good first volume.
A fun return to Takahashi's world of characters after so long; glad that it's getting a manga adaptation in addition to the anime. Likely to purchase for our collection,
Next generation of Inuyasha demon hunters. I. Am. THERE.
This could have gone horribly wrong and IMHO, it did not, so this reader was quite happy with it. YMMV of course, but I think this was worth a read and I will be continuing with the series.
4, I'm so glad this was good, stars.
My thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Inuyasha was pretty much a huge chunk of the manga and anime that I consumed as a child/teen. I still have several of the opening/closing songs on my spotify playlist because they are absolute bangers. I was super excited when I heard the series was getting revamped with new characters in the same world, however Yashahime was not was I was expecting. This volume follows the children of Inuyasha/Kagome and Sesshoumaru/Rin who discover their parents have been stuck in some sort of time rift and disappeared.
Our main character (Sess/Rin's daughter) gets split up from her twin and sent to live in the future, raised by Kagome's brother Sota. One day she is attacked by a centipede demon (*super* original) and dragged into the past. There she learns of her twin and of her cousin (Kag/Inu's daughter) who were raised by Kaede all these years.
I would love to say this was a refreshing new take on the series and that new fans will discover a new love of the characters/setting, but I can't. This was pretty mid. So much happens in the first volume, that I'm afraid for the pacing of the rest of the story. Plus, using a time rift as a major plot source is kind of lazy when we've seen spin offs with children of beloved characters in other series do well. I also very much do not like the implications of Rin and Sesshoumaru's relationship seeing as how the main story featured them as a child with Sesshoumaru being a protector/father figure. I would have preferred maybe Kagura or an OC to the implications of grooming/problematic relationships.
I thank the publisher for providing an arc of this book. I'll probably pick up the second volume to see if anything improves, but for now it's a 3/5 for me.
This was SO freaking good! It’s an adventure fantasy manga that follows two demon dog half brothers.
I was a huge fan of the Inu-Yasha manga when I was in high school. When I saw that they are adapting the Yashahime anime series into a manga version I was super excited. Reading the book did not disappoint!
This was an amazing read! As a fan of the anime, the manga was even better. The dynamic characters and connections to Inuyasha were extremely enjoyable.
Yashahime is a real treat for someone who grew up with watching Inuyasha. The story is one fans such as myself hoped for, a chance to see our favorite characters again and extend their story. I delight in this journey for the princesses to find their parents. It's a wonderful way of uniting the old story with the new. I found this to be refreshing. I will be reading the manga over watching the anim. I give this one a 4/5.
My Thoughts:
We have not had a Borders or Barnes and Noble or any other large book store in my town since probably the demise of Blockbusters. Chain book stores were great ways to find new or spin off manga series because there are so many manga series that getting a chance to open it up and read the first few pages is enough to pull you into a commitment to continue to buy the rest of the books. That can only be done in a book store. I don't know how readers do this when they have to buy online. How can a manga by just the cover alone lure a reader in. After all, the covers look alike for the most part.
If I were not spending time in Portland, Oregon and carving out an hour or two to be in Powells, I would not have by chance happened on The Way of the House Husband, my summer obsession.
Yashahime, volume 1 is a spin-off of the Inuyasha series. If you like the demon hunter series, Inuyasha, or even other demon hunter stories like the anime Demon Slayer, you will like this series that takes the next generation of daughters/demon hunters. This is only volume 1, so of course nothing is really resolved, except that Towa, currently living in the present, can finally understand why she is both a feared outcast and a basically friendless hot girl. She also, thanks to a demon attack, is suddenly transported in time to feudal Japan. She is reunited with her twin sister Setsuma and her cousin Morosha. Cryptically guided by a grand aunt spirit dressed like the Tree of Ages, the three warrior princesses have to fight demons and find their parents, (but not all in volume 1). . .to be continued.
From the Publisher:
The beloved fantasy adventure Inuyasha continues with the next generation of demon hunters!
Can the three teenage daughters of demon dog half-brothers Inuyasha and Sesshomaru save their parents, themselves, and both realms from the menace of the seven mystical Rainbow Pearls?
Living in the present day isn’t easy for Sesshomaru’s daughter Towa. She can’t remember where she came from, must conceal her mysterious powers, and is either worshipped or feared by girls she just wants to be friends with. But she has no way of returning to her own time until one day…a demon attacks and she is transported to feudal-era Japan.
There Towa, her twin sister Setsuma, and her cousin Moroha—Inuyasha’s daughter—have a mission bestowed upon them by the mystical Tree of Ages. With only vague memories of their past to guide them, the three young women set out to find their parents, heal a rift in time, and fulfill their royal destiny...

I was a fervent watcher of Inuyasha as a teen, so the nostalgia reared it's head when I heard there would be a sequel anime series. Unfortunately, It was very disappointing. It felt rushed and confusing. Then, I heard there would be a manga adaptation. I requested the ARC from netgalley in hopes of a better product. I am happy to say that I enjoyed this immensely. The mangaka made appropriate story changes that I feel improved on it's predecessor. I am looking forward to the second volume.
As someone who grew up watching Inuyasha, Yashahime's first volume really makes me want to do a re-watch of the anime.
In Yashahime Vol. 1, the story introduces the three half-demon princesses: Towa and Setsuna (Sesshomaru and Rin's daughter) and their cousin Moroha (daughter of Kagome and Inuyasha). After a demon attacks Towa in the present day, she is transported to feudal-era Japan and along with Setsuna and Moroha and the power of the mystical Tree of Ages, the princesses are set to find their parents and what awaits to fulfill their destiny. Must confess I enjoyed reading this manga adaptation more than the anime.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and VIZ Media for the opportunity to read this. Can't wait for Vol. 2!!!
Towa's appearance set her apart in the human world. While some fangirl over her exotic looks, some wonder about it. It's hard for her to make friends... and there's the bit about being able to see demons and spirits. When Towa invites a middle school fangirl to the shrine after dark... the girl thinks she's the one who got through all Towa's defenses. But when the girl arrives, Towa admits that she lured her there for an exorcism. Things get a little messy when a centipede spirit emerges. Two realms collide when Towa's twin sister Setsuna and her cousin Moroha emerge from a tree. Can Towa survive in this other realm and help her sister and cousin find their parents? Read on to find out!
I really liked the premise of twins separated at a young age and reunited after 10 years apart in different worlds.
There's a flea for comedic relief and I don't usually like bugs, but I liked this one.
All three main characters are kick ass females - and I LOVE it.
Full disclosure: I haven’t read the main series that this is a sequel to, HOWEVER, I honestly think you can read it without having read the main series. I didn’t really have any problems understanding what was going on and any gaps in my knowledge weren’t made apparent as I was reading!
It’s an action packed volume that takes a turn for the magical when demons show up and travel to a new world happens, and the beginnings of a mystery and a quest to solve it are laid out!
Yashahime is a spin-off of the popular Inuyasha manga. It opens with Towa in modern Tokyo as part of an adopted family caring for a shrine until a monster opens a portal into the past. There. in the past, Towa is reunited her twin sister Setsuma and cousin Moroha and learns that her parents and aunt all disappeared long ago. Towa also slowly learns about the role she, her sister, and cousin will need to play in saving the world from a mysterious fate. That is if they survive the attacks launched by a mysterious adversary. A very nice beginning to a series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Viz media for the opportunity to read this title!
