This was unfortunately a DNF for me, I ,ade it about halfway and then just couldn’t continue.
The cover is amazing and in theory the concept is great too, however the execution fell flat for me.
It felt poorly researched and lacked depth. The writing style read very amateurish and repetitive.
Overall it just wasn’t for me and in my opinion needs another round of heavy editing then maybe it has more potential.
Not for me unfortunately. Remembered I never left a review here. It's been a while since I read it so my review isn't going to help very much! I haven't been on my Netgalley in years.
Voice from the Dead ♦ Aster Shock | Short Review
Voice from the Dead by Aster Shock was a huge disappointment, even though I had high expectations for it.
Voice from the Dead ♦ Aster Shock
Opinion
The plot of Voice from the Dead lacked depth and consistency, feeling like a disorganized muddle. Throughout the entire novel, the characters which were poorly researched showed little to no development, making them as engaging as cardboard cutouts.
The story was very monotonous due to Shock’s clichéd language and predictable turns, which gave the writing an amateurish appearance. It was difficult to even complete the book because of how slow the pacing was and how poorly the suspenseful moments were handled.
Conclusion
I also felt that the resolution was not satisfactory, which made me wonder why I had spent so much time reading this book. All things considered, I would not suggest Voice from the Dead to anyone searching for an engaging or skillfully written mystery book. Don’t waste your time on this one.
I received an advance review copy for free from BooksGoSocial, through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a DNF for me, really sorry. It just had no substance, I couldn’t figure out what this was about and I sadly didn’t care to find out. The characters were walking cliches in a bad way too, definitely a no for me
I.. hm. I'm not quite sure how to review this.. reading the synopsis, I had no idea that the MC was the son of a nazi, or he calls other people nazi, the Berlin Wall is being built.. I just couldn't get into it honestly. That's about it, I don't know what else to tell you.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy for review.
I unfortunately was not very engaged by this book. I started reading it on my kindle and then put it down for a while. I picked it up again during a readathon last may and It did not lived up to my expectations. I think this will be more suited for people that are comfortable reading from younger perspectives. I Thought the fantasy/ real world setting ws going to be interesting but it was confusing. I think this book needed more editing.
I've seen too many negative reviews about this book and I honestly don' t want to waste my time trying to read a book that has so many negative reviews. The synopsis sounds interesting enough but all the reviews say that's where it ends.
Let's be honest, I was attracted by the gorgeous cover! And in this case, the book wasn't the same. Unfortunately, Voices from the dark was such a big flop! A lot of things didn't make sense in a way that it was very hard to get through it.
Thank you for approving me for this title! However, I unfortunately was unable to download/read this book prior to it being archived on Netgalley. I hope to read and review this book on my own soon, and hope to read other books from this author and publisher. Thanks again!
Thank you for the opportunity to read this. However, I have to say it was a DNF for me. I loved the premise of the book, but the actual story just didn't capture my attention.
DNF.
I couldn’t remotely empathise or like the main character, every single character of colour was introduced or talked about racism to such an extent that I was surprised an editor had thought this was okay. Then I wondered if an editor had even looked at this given the writing. It reads like baby’s first Wattpad or fanfiction story. I just couldn’t keep reading it.
This unfortunately was a DNF for me this year. I have tried to read it a number of times, and I can’t put my finger on the exact reason why, but it just isn’t drawing me in enough to want to read it.
I wasn’t relating to the characters, and I didn’t find the story to be engaging to me.
Now I rated this 3 stars because even though this wasn’t the book for me, it doesn’t mean that there are not others that wouldn’t find it intriguing or interesting.
Thank you to Netgallery and Booksgosocial for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I was intrigued by the blurb when I requested this book but by the time I started reading it, I was so confused! This book is a HARD NO for me.
Voice From the Dead by Aster Shock had an interesting synopsis and a gorgeous cover so I agreed to review it but I did not finish at all. I stopped several chapters in because the writing was confusing and the book is not easy to read.
This book has so much potential, but I felt that it just missed its mark. I finished it, but felt like it took so long as I just wasn’t motivated.
There is a big long list of trigger warning so 100% look them up. There are too many to list here. This book was not what I expected from the cover. You are completely bombarded with information. This book was not for me
DNF at 34%
Synopsis looked fantastic, but from there on it just went downhill for me. Couldn’t get into it, couldn’t find myself to care for the characters and the writing style was the final blow into the coven.
Even though this wasn’t for me, read the synopsis and decide for yourself! I wish the author all the best.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC
I was so disappointed by this book. Unfortunately, I only got through a little of the story before I had to dnf it.
Unfortunately, this book, for me, was a DNF (did not finish). I found it very hard to get into and lost intestet even though the synopsis was extremely compelling and interesting! I will give it another go in the future because I am really curious about it and about what the story has to tell. I may have struggled finishing it because of what was going on in my life at the time but as of the date of the review, I was unable to finish it.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I had to DNF this and if you know me you know that I find it incredibly difficult to DNF. I saw the ratings and tried to still go in with an open mind.
The good thing about this book is the synopsis. It sounds really interesting and I was also glad that the author put trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, thank you for that and more authors should do that.
Unfortunately that is where it started to go wrong. The writing is very clunky which to me means it is overwritten and yet the sentences don't make sense. A lot of sentences I had to keep going back to as they didn't make sense in my brain on the first read but due to this being an ARC I hope it was later fixed in editing.
Other things I disliked in the 4 chapters I actually read was the backstory. Maybe it comes into play later on in the book but I do not understand why the main character's dad had to be Nazi. Yes there are of course books dedicated to the atrocities that happened but I feel like this wasn't one of these books and it felt out of place in a book that is labelled as Fantasy. I think it also doesn't help that it doesn't mention it in the description at all and it plays heavily in the first chapter. I only was prepared by the trigger warning page and even then I was a bit confused at where that would fit in.
I think that it would be better for these trigger warnings to actually be mentioned in the description of the book as it seems that a lot of people have been misled by the description and have received an entirely different book than they were expecting. I am sure that there could be an audience for this so it may be best to market the book in this way if the author wanted it to be a main focus whether it was just in the beginning chapter or if it does flow through the book.
I am saddened to have to DNF but I hope the author learns from this and all of the reviews don't dishearten them but helps them progress their writing.
