I'm a fan of the Calder series, where Janet Dailey shines. This was good, but not up to her usual standard in my opinion.
Tess is being very conscious of Brock and his intention to help her when he is a nemesis of her family. Everyone including of herself know that he have the intention to expand his holding of asset. She could not understand why would he want to help her to the extend of offering her a choice of bull from his farm. Everyone warned her taking the impulsive Quicksand with its bad attitude but Tess saw something in him. There was attraction between Tess and Brock but she aware that she should not have give in as she can’t trust him. There are strange things happening between them, Brock begin to suspect it has something to do with Tess.
It is a suspense romance filled with dangerous mystery evolved around Tess and Brock. And as the layers peeled away, I become engrossed in the story and there was a twist to the story in the end. I love Brock’s story and both Tess and Brock is a strong character. Love reading how their relationship developed. Overall, it is a quick read for me and I enjoyed the drama and romance between Tess and Brock.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I have read the first book in this series but some how missed book two so I need to go back and see what happened in that book. Anyway, after the first book, you just hate Brock and the sisters have no reason to like him so it was a surprise that this is Brock's chance at love!
Maybe he mellowed out in book 2 but in the first book, he was the villain and you can understand how Tess struggled with her attraction to Brock. But I did feel bad for him, he kept trying to help out and was very firmly told "NO!" He even tried to get Tess to sit down and have a meal with him, but she just kept running away.
I really enjoyed the book with the drama and romance it was hard to put down. It was also great to see the previous couples involved in this book - which is why I need to go back and read book 2!
Sad to see the end of the trilogy but great HEA and conclusion so that all characters did not have to sacrifice their land or love or heritage. This book wrapped everything up happily for all.
There were errors with the names of the characters that are hopefully corrected before publication. I do like to see strong women characters.
This book picks up where the others left us. As part of a series it can be read as a stand alone and the reader would be fine with the story and characters. If reading the past books you get a bigger picture of the overall story. This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Champions series. Brock Tolman has been the nemesis of the Champion family since he bought some land out from under their late father. Now Alamo Canyon Ranch is in financial trouble and Tess is forced to partner with him. Brock wants to breed with the Champion bull bloodline and offers one of his young bulls for her pro riding circuit. Everyone, even Brock, warns her against taking the impulsive bull with the dangerous attitude, but she sees something special in him. The attraction between Tess and Brock is there, but she knows she can't trust him and not sure if she can trust her feelings towards him. When strange things start happening and his secret past comes back to haunt him, threatening his business, his life, and the lives of anyone close to him he takes care to inform Tess to keep her safe.
Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher..
Tess Champion is the oldest of the Champion sisters. She’s not happy with the new partner that has insinuated himself into her family’s bull riding business. Tess will have to work with a man the family considers an enemy. Brock Tolman wants the Champion family ranch and the oldest sister. He puts himself in their lives by buying the mortgage to the ranch. Brock’s past is about to come back to the present and put all he’s wanted into danger. Tess and Brock will have to find a way to come together and make their future plans work while they face danger from the past. Can they find a way to come together? Will their mutual attraction overcome their perceptions of each other? What happens when these two reveal secrets? Will the bull no one believes in become the thing that’ll save them all? They’ll find themselves figuring out their relationship while dealing with Quicksand.
Quicksand by Janet Dailey is the last book in her Champions series. This story centers on the oldest Champion sister and the man they all think of as their enemy. When the enemy insinuates themselves into their family ranch the oldest sister will have to deal with him as well as the new situation. Quicksand follows a family of female bull riding breeders who are trying to break into the world of professional bull riding with their bulls. The trials and romances along the way keep them wondering if they can survive. This last book in the trilogy deals with the oldest of three sisters who is determined to keep the enemy at bay, along with the man they consider to be an enemy. She’ll find the man isn’t as bad as they thought and just maybe the one to heal her heartbreak. Quicksand takes the reader through danger, suspense, and blackmail to a very satisfying conclusion. Janet Dailey wraps a wonderful Champions series about three strong women finding their ways through the danger and world of professional bull riding. It shows the behind the scenes lives of those ranchers who bring the bulls to the Professional Bull Riding contest with some romance thrown into the mix. Quicksand, Whiplash and Whirlwind with give any Janet Dailey fan a thrill and is a must read for anyone who is a fan of the modern western romance genre. I’m just sorry to see the end of the Champions Series because this reader fell in love with these wonderfully relatable characters.
Wonderful story of Tess and Brock. A lot of suspense and mystery surrounds Brock's past. As the truth unfolds to Tess about Bricks past many dangers lay in the way. very well written story, couldn't put it down. I read this book without reading the first two and had no problem following along.
Janet Dailey was been writing for decades and she continues to hit the ball out of the park! Her experience in writing has evolved into bestseller status and one of my go-to authors.
Quicksand is the third book in the Champions series and it is as good as Whirlwind and Whiplash. This time she tells the story of Brock and Tess.
This novel checks all my boxes for a 5-star read:
Great characters
Love/hate relationship
Suspense
A whodunit
Satisfying HEA ending
No loose threads in the storyline or series.
Quicksand is the third book in Janet Dailey’s The Champions series. Tess Champion, the eldest of the three sisters, is holding the ranch, it’s bull breeding operation, and her family together. After the happenings in book two of the series, Whiplash, Tess has entered into an unwanted collaboration with rancher, multimillionaire, bull breeder Brock Tolman. Tess doesn’t trust him for a minute!
And Brock is finding it hard to trust Tess when he receives threatening mailings bringing back a past he wants to forget and coincidental bad things happen when Tess is present. That is until they are together when a bombing incident occurs that was meant for her.
This is a very good tale with thrilling elements, beautiful setting descriptions, and great character development. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
It was good just not what I was hoping it would be, I liked the suspense part but the characters weren't my favorite. I wasn't really emotionally invested in the secondary story with the characters from the last book.
The tension between Brock and Tess was palpable, but I felt like she was a little too hard on him at times. Even when he did nice things for her she felt like he was trying to pull one over on her. He has a pretty big secret, but I wish there would have been a better ending to that part of the story. All of the mystery and threats added a lot of suspense to the story.
This series has been really great, and Tess has always been the backbone of the family. I liked the chapters from other family member’s POV’s. The conclusion to Casey and Val’s story was perfect, albeit heartbreaking at times. I really liked Brock and felt bad for what he was going through.
I highly recommend this series and the book. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Brock Tolman has been the nemesis of the Champion family since he bought some land out from under their late father. But now Alamo Canyon Ranch is in financial trouble and Tess is forced to partner with him. Brock wants to breed with the Champion bull bloodline and offers one of his young bulls for her pro riding circuit. Everyone, even Brock, warns her against taking the impulsive bull with the dangerous attitude, but she sees something special in him. The attraction between Tess and Brock is still there, but she knows she can't trust him. Especially when strange things start happening and his secret past comes back to haunt him, threatening his business, his life, and the lives of anyone close to him.
This is definitely a series you need to read in order. I really enjoyed this book by the end, but not having read the previous two books, I started out feeling so lost. I enjoyed reading the behind the scenes of the rodeo life and preparing a new bull for the professional bull riding circuit. Brock's backstory and the hitman after him gave the story more depth and excitement with a mystery to solve. I had trouble feeling the chemistry between Tess and Brock though.
I received an advance reader copy of this book. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
It's been a long time since I'd read a Janet Dailey book but I quickly remembered why I had been an avid reader of her books. This latest is the story of Brock and Tess with some mystery and danger thrown in along with some family dynamics. I appreciated that I could pick this book up for short bursts of reading get right back to the story. I also enjoyed the ranch background especially around bull-riding.
Apparently this is the third in a series--I have not read the other 2 books. While reading the earlier books might have added depth to the stories of the sisters I still enjoyed this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the third book in the Champions series. I have read and reviewed the other two books in this series before picking up this book, and I really think this series is one you need to read in order. This book is Brock's backstory, and I really never loved his character. I had a lot of trouble getting into this book, but about 30% into this book I was pulled into this book. By the end of this book I understand Brock's character more, but I still do not love his character. I really loved the sisters side story updates. The suspense in this book was so good, and the romance was a hate to love thing. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Kensington Publishing) or author (Janet Dailey) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
This book pulled me right in with Tess and Brock. Brock owned the Tolman Ranch and he was a business partner in Tess' Alamo Canyon Ranch. It was interesting to learn about the bulls and bull riding from Tess' point of view, but what I liked the best was the romantic suspense in the book because it seemed like everyone was a suspect at one point including Tess. The book was fast paced and full of heart pounding mysteries and love. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Bull riding, a mystery to find a blackmailer, finding a son, and romance all in one!
I liked how so many plot lines were woven into this book and they were placed perfectly so that they were easy to follow. I also felt like I got to know more about how bulls are raised and trained before placed in a rodeo.
The blackmail plot involving Brock really developed as a mystery to figure out who was behind all of the threatening acts(many were very creative since done by an expert). I liked how this brought out his past and helped him get closer to Tess, fueling a natural romance.
One of the side plots was heartwarming since it was Casey and Val trying to find their son that was given up for adoption years ago. Even though they weren't the main focus, their story tied into the family and feel of the ranch.
Of course we can't forget about fiesty Quicksand that was the focus of Tess training to get him ready to shine. This book kept me on my feet and was just overall good writing.
Thank you to Kensington and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
Tess finally gets to have her own romantic interest. The series is for the three Champion sisters. Two of them are attached or married, Val and Casey are trying to locate the child they gave up and Lexie and Shane are going to become parents. Yet Tess is avoiding her feelings for Brock, the wealthy man always competing with her for bulls or land. Brock has a past that doesn’t really put him in a good light but we get the story and are able to understand him much better. I’ve always like Tess, the hardened sister having to be the leader and business mind for the family. But, I felt when she was around Brock this whining little girl came out. She lacked this powerful energy and seemed to let Brock take over. This book wraps up the story of the Champion sisters, it was definitely a tough one to get through due to the slower pace. My copy came from Netgalley with my review given voluntarily.
There is quite a bit of action and issues in this cowboy romantic suspense. Not my favorite of the trio so far but still quite enjoyable. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Thank you to Net Galley for the advanced copy of this book. What a great third book to this series. This books plot captured me from the start until the end. Not as much about bull riding in this book which I did miss but the suspense in this book plus the tragedies that occurred really held the story from start to finish. It also wrapped up the story for the three sisters quite well. It was nice to see such a close knit family able to fight their personal demons and come out ahead. Tess and Brock have struggled throughout the series with each other and Brock was not a likable character but Dailey wins you over with this book. You could read this book as a stand alone, however I would highly recommend you to read the first two books first as it is a great series.
The last of the Champions sister, Tess is the oldest and boss of running their small ranch. Still not happy about the partnership they formed with Brock, a fellow rancher, but on the mega scale. There has been bad blood between the two for many years, but to save a beloved bull Tess grits her teeth and tries to make nice.
Brock made a huge mistake in his past and the past is returning to haunt him, no matter how he has tried to hide it. When it seems like it’s not blackmail but revenge the mysterious person is after and things that mean something to Brock are in danger, including Tess. He steps up to figure out why and who is behind it all.
The story also continues with the other two sisters. A HEA and finding a child given up for adoption, so one definitely should read in order. Another fast paced story that had me up late to finish reading and confirm my guess of who is behind Brock’s troubles. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #Quicksand #KensingtonBooks #TheChampionsRomance
