I always enjoy Mary Kay Andrews' books. This is a fun book that is a romance. It is about a woman who flips houses and what happens when she meets a mystery man. This is a fun beach read that will have you laughing a lot. The characters are flawed but lovable and the plot is fun and romantic. It is basically about a man and woman who meet and how they work things out so they can be together--even if at first this doesn't seem very likely. It is a quick, fun read.
Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an Advanced Readers Copy of The Homewreckers. I apologize for not being timely in my review.
I'm a sucker for a good beach read, but when you throw in some romance, a baffling mystery, home renovations AND reality tv to go with it, you've got me hook, line, and sinker!
The reader, Kathleen McInerney, was easy to listen to and helped bring the characters to life.
Mary Kay Andrews always provides for a good reading experience. The Homewreckers was another enjoyable one.
Real life meets fiction in the newest title from Mary Kay Andrews. From the publisher: Summer begins with Mary Kay Andrews, in this delightful summer read about flipping houses, and finding true love.
MKA returns to Savannah and highlights her own expertise in home renovation in her newest beach read that will have you wondering what is hidden within your very walls. Incorporating the high intensity of a reality house flipping show, a touch of romance, and an intriguing mystery, you won't be left wanting.
When Hattie is asked to star in home renovation show called The Homewreckers, she jumps at the chance to save the money pit of a home she fell in love with. The house/show presents Hattie with a handful a problems - the least of which is her her male cohost/possible love interest, the biggest is a dead body.
I LOVE Mary Kay Andrews, and The Homewreckers did not disappoint. I loved the mystery storyline in this - as much as (or maybe more than) I loved the romance storyline. The audiobook was fantastic!
This is probably 2.5 stars rounded up for me. The first several chapters moved a little too slowly to hold my interest. I started and stopped listening to this one several times. Once things got going, especially when the cold case was introduced, the pace picked up and it was more enjoyable for me. There were lots of enjoyable elements. The TV show story line and the Tybee Island setting were fun and Hattie was an interesting character. Overall, it was worth the read, but 14.5 hours was just a bit long for a lighter book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing an advanced copy of the audiobook.
Fantastic book! This was my first Mary Kay Andrews book and it did not disappoint. This book was suspenseful and had great mystery with it. On the outside it seems like a basic story about a woman who gets cast on an HGTV like show fixing up old houses but the more they work the more they discover. There was a mystery wrapped into this old fixer-upper and their whole community becomes suspects.
I really enjoyed this book! It was fresh and interesting and was a fun book. I could see myself reading this book sitting by the pool and then talking about it with my friends over a glass of wine! I do not know if that means anything to anyone but that's the vibe I got from that book. It is lightweight and fast paced but not lacking in depth of story. The one thing I felt is the relationship or love story element of this book is lacking. That's a small element of the story but it is an element that I thought was going to be more based on the title. Once you start the book you'll get the title though.
Overall, great book. I would recommend this to any book club looking for a summer beach read. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Nope! This is the first book I read and probably my last i thought it was lacking and unrealistic. I wanted to love this but I just kept putting it down and not wanting to read it.
A fun book with both a mystery and romance rolled into one!! Small town romance and hard working woman- yes please. This was great.
Hattie and her best friend, Cassie, along with Hattie's father -in-law, buy old houses ,refurbish them, and then sell the remodeled homes. The trio run a well respected company in Savannah, Georgia. But Hattie's last project was unsuccessful and now she is trying to find a way to fund her next house. Hattie catches the eye of a producer of reality tv fixer-upper shows, who is in town looking to do a new series. Mo, the producer, talks her in to being part of his new show. The project will help Hattie financially, but she has no idea the danger she has placed herself in. When a body is found on the property grounds, the fixer - upper show also becomes a who-dun-it show. With a murderer at large, Hattie could become the next victim.
This was an enjoyable read by Mary Kay Andrews and I recommend it to folks who like mysteries mixed with romance.
I was given an ARC of The Homewreckers by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

A funny, spirited romance in which a TV producer comes to a small Southern town to tape a reality show about home flipping and stumbles upon a sexy widow looking for a new home to flip. Lots of believably drawn characters (not too many, just a healthy amount, unlike many romances, which feature only cardboard cutouts beside the central characters.) There's the widow, her BFF, the producer, his irritating, obtuse boss, a smarmy actor hired to join the widow on the show, multiple other neighborhood characters and the widow's father-in-law. There even turns out to be a murder mystery hiding in the house (literally), helping to propel the story forward. Recommend for anyone looking for a sweet, flirty story.
This is the first book that I have read by Mary Kay Andrews and unfortunately I wasn't impressed. The characters felt flat to me. I didn't feel a connection to anything that was happening.
I am really enjoying Mary Kay Andrews' work recently. This almost cozy crime meets rom-com is right up my alley. This also shows a little insight into Andrews' own connection to flipping houses and making them majestic places to live and stay. I really enjoyed spending time with the characters, learning more about who they are and their backstories, as well as piecing together the mystery that accompanied this house renovation. Another charmer!
What a fun read! This book had a good mix of character development and background, plot moving storyline, and some mystery mixed in. There was just enough of each aspect to keep me invested and not so much that it felt like too much. I also really liked the main character. Hattie Kavenaugh, was likable and endearing, and carried her own in a mostly male dominated industry This would be a great summer read!
I am very sorry to say, I just could not get into this book. I tired several times, but it was not for me.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC for an honest review.
Thank you net galley for my advanced copy of this book. I really enjoyed the story and was invested in the characters from the start. I was really rooting for them. I enjoyed all aspects of this book and would highly recommend.
I really liked this one! I loved the concept of house flipping reality TV. I used to watch all those types of shows on HGTV back in the day and still do occasionally. I was NOT expecting this to be a mystery/thriller/who-done-it type of story that was intertwined! That was a pleasant surprise and definitely kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. Hattie is also a badass. She’s tough, smart and determined while working in a predominantly “male” industry and crushing it. This story was easy to read (listen to) and kept me interested with all the unexpected twists, turns and the sprinkle of romance throughout. I would definitely recommend this if you want a light mystery/thriller/romance/chick-lit read.
If there's any author who is going to jump start my summer reading it is for-sure Mark Kay Andrews!
Now I know some who have yet to read her think you're getting a fluffy summer book where two people fall in love and live happily ever after - but stop right there. because this is my second book in a row by MKA that's had a mysterious murder at the root of the story! I am all in for the crossing of genres when there's a little something for everyone.
So this one's got the cozy mystery vibes, you have the romance, you've got real world problems, a fun reality show aspect, and all the fun snarky banter... and last but certainly not least - there's a dog (...most important in my opinion)!
Of course, it's also a fun and flirty story but it's got grit as well. I love when characters get their second chances, and when they get to prove themselves when the odds are stacked against them.
Highly entertaining and an enjoyable read from start to finish.

Would it even be summer without a new @marykayandrews book? I absolutely adore her novels, especially her female main characters, and this is no exception.
The Homewreckers is part cozy mystery, part romance, and part reality TV. Hattie is a local Savannah woman who is paired with a well known Hollywood designer to renovate a beach house, and there’s very little about the project that goes smoothly. It makes for a perfect beach read and I know this will get a lot of #bookstagram love this summer!
This was a cute and quirky Hallmark-esque book. I love the HGTV vibes and cute romance. I personally could’ve used a little more of the mystery aspect, but I still loved it. It took me a little bit to get into it especially the audio version because I found myself zoning out and not getting into the story and having to rewind to listen to more. But once I got about a quarter of the way through I was hooked and binged the rest of it. If you love romance, a little bit of mystery, and women’s fiction then I think you would really enjoy this book.
