This is my first Mary Kay Andrews book, and I loved the vibe. What a perfect summertime beach read. There is mystery and a dash of romance. I also can't explain how giddy I felt when I heard the Chapter titles! I love when books include chapter titles. Can we bring those back, please?
Hattie Kavanaugh has had a rough go at it, but she continues to work hard and prove she deserves to be where she is at in the vintage home restoration line. I didn't really care for either of the male main characters, but Trey is a douchebag manbaby. I didn't like how Hattie was being forced to interact with him for the sake of a show.
The narrator of the audiobook did an outstanding job bringing the story to life. I loved it.

I am a big fan of Mary Kay Andrew’s books, and was so excited when I saw she had a new one out. I am happy to say I loved this one as much as the rest of hers! I flew through this book, I did not want to put it down, once I started.
This book has a little bit of everything in it. It’s part Murder mystery, drama, romance, humor, and so much more. I really loved the home renovation theme in this book. I found it to be a really fun storyline. It also made me want to buy an old house and renovate it. I enjoyed the all characters in this book, even the side characters. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I would highly recommend checking it out!
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martins Press, and Mary Kay Andrews for providing this audiobook of this book without charge in exchange for providing an unbiased review.
I REALLY enjoyed the premise of the book, as I always do and I really love this author! The background was really in-step with what things we see on TV today.
The only issue that I have with the audiobook is that the reader constantly paused when giving dialogue in a different character. The pausing was obviously contrived but it was so much pausing that it felt very disingenuous and distracted me completely. I won’t select another audiobook with this reader, from now on. Overall I felt very annoyed because, as a person living in the South (USA- TN),it took away the Southern charm that is always evident in Ms. Andrews books. Very few that I know in the South (all my life living in the south) speak the way that she spoke… that really bothers me.
This story made me look forward to the next one. The back story was really good and I enjoyed wondering how it would end. Just wouldn’t p listen to it- I think I would rather read it though. Enjoy… just read it- don’t listen to it! 😊
Mark Kay Andrews always has a fun story to tell and The Homewreckers was no exception. Fun and flirty cast of characters and a good mystery too.
I really love MKA and the stories she tells! I really liked Hattie and watching her journey throughout this book. I LOVED the history and mystery of the old house!!!!
(Unfortunately I did feel this one was just a little bit too long for me. I found myself increasing the audio in some parts to skim through. Which I typically don't do with MKA books.)
All in all - if you're an MKA fan I think you'll like it a lot, just know it's definitely a bit longer. If you haven't read her books yet, this isn't the one I'd start with. Personally I'd recommend Sunset Beach.
This is my first Mary Kay Andrews book and it did not disappoint! I listened to the audiobook and I was entertained the entire time. This book has everything you want in a beach read including a cozy murder mystery, a slow burn romance, and a HGTV home makeover show in the making. It was addicting and it was easy to get caught up in the action!
The book centers around Hattie who restores houses for a living with her father in law. She bought a fixer upper mansion but she ended up selling it as a loss. She was about to throw in the towel until she was offered a co host spot on a home renovation reality show. There were a few surprises that happened on set and feelings develop between people.
After reading this book, I am open to reading more of Mary Kay Andrews books. Her writing is captivating and her characters are relatable. This book left me with a smile on my face and put me in a good mood.
Thank you to NetGallery and to Macmillan Audio for giving me a copy for.a honest review.
I really enjoyed this audio book as the narrator does an excellent job of changing characters and elicits the drama of this particular story. I’ve listened to several by this narrator for MKA’s books. She never disappoints.
MKA really captures the southern charm and mystique of Savannah. I really enjoyed the historical home renovation intermingled with the mystery, romance, and television drama. The perfect summer getaway lies in this 30th book by this author. Well done MKA!
Many thanks to Netgalley for extending me an ARC audio version of this very delightful book. The opinions expressed are my own.
This is a great book and Mary Kay Andrews did it again. She made me love more books! I can't get enough of her writing.
First off, how amazing is this promo box?! This towel is so fun and the perfect complement to the ultimate summer read!
This book starts off looking like a typical HGTV type of RomCom but it’s quickly turned on its head with an added cozy mystery and whodunit! This was my second romance and cozy mystery hybrid this week and I must admit I’m totally here for this genre bending and the entertaining combo they make!
This was a bit of a long one coming in thickly at 448 pages but I will admit it didn’t feel like it! This one was witty and charming and an all around fun read!
This was my first by Mary Kay Andrews and it certainly won’t be my last!
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* better than i thought, though there was some funny parts in this book. maybe some people don't talk about septic fields but i know where all my friends are lmao. a bit too cheesy for me but i knew that it would likely be like that going into it.
Mary Kay Andrews is back and better than ever, delivering a fun filled beach book with to quote the cover: “love, murder, and faulty wiring…”
A woman named Hattie begins a house flipping business following the death of her husband and after a big failure, she gets an offer that’s too good to resist to film a reality television show fixing up a home on Tybee Island outside of Savannah, GA….and ofcourse there’s a love story buried in there, and also a murder mystery. Because it wouldn’t be MKA without a little bit of everything genre wise. She does a great job in this one of blending it all pretty seamlessly. The book is a delight, even if just for the beautiful descriptions of Tybee and Savannah; she makes you want to take a vacation there ASAP.
I flew through it in a couple days and couldn’t put it down!
This book was so cute!
I am definitely a “HGTV” person so a book about flipping houses was perfect! Flipping a house mixed in with a little murder mystery? Perfection!
The characters were super lovable and haddie is definitely my new bookish best friend. This was a great light read, definitely recommend to anybody who has ever watched any hgtv show!
Another hit out of the park for Andrews! I don't know what it is about her books, but everytime she writes, it just soothes me. I loved the murder mystery aspect of this one and the impossible task of a historic fixer upper.
I love Mary Kay Andrews, and I quite enjoyed this book. You get a little mystery, a home improvement project, and a romance all in one. I liked that this book took place in Savannah, I have been there before and it brought back all the memories. This focuses more on the mystery than the relationships, which I found quite interesting. It turned out nearly exactly like I thought it would….but that didn’t take away from the ride. Loved all the side characters and I especially loved Detective Mak!
I received both an ebook and audio version, and I enjoyed the narrator on the audiobook so much. It was such a pleasure to listen to.
This book grabbed me from the very beginning. I expect nothing less from this author. As usual she hits it out of the park. The chemistry between all the characters is amazing. With the added bonus of a mystery it took it over the top.
I listened to the audiobook version and you could not tell it was only one narrator. Terrific job.

Hattie had to sell a house she is flipping at a tremendous loss. Enter a Hollywood producer and some help and she starts another flip. Things do not run as smoothly as planned though.
This book has it all: mystery, murder, and romance. It kept me wanting more from the very beginning and with just enough twists and turns to keep anyone interested. This was definitely a five star read for me. I recommend it to just about anyone. Especially people who do house flipping and who will understand how sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
I love books set in the south. I love reading about the low country life (think Dorothea Benton Frank, Pat Conroy and many others.) I have not read a ton of Mary Kay Andrews books, but it seems like she has a fair number of devotees who get into her books. This book, simply put, did not win me over. Hattie is a Savannah native who is picking up the pieces after being widowed young. She, along with her best friend Cass run a home restoration business. They are on the brink financially, living project to project, when they are approached by a home improvement TV show “The Homewreckers” to feature their restoration of a dilapidated home on Tybee Island. All of this sounded amazing to me on paper. These features are what gave this story 3 instead of 2 stars. I love reality TV, I love the setting, what can go wrong?
For me, the story takes a turn when it focuses on a murder mystery that involves the town, the featured house and Hattie herself. I found that I didn’t really care about the murder, nor whodunit. Maybe it’s just that I am not a murder mystery gal? I also didn’t care about the love triangle featured in the book. I didn’t even care enough to envision the characters.
Overall, I wanted this to be a summer read that I couldn’t put down and I was pretty disappointed.
Thank you to @macmillan.audio and @netgalley for the advance audiobook.

Thank you to the author, net galley, and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this fun story. It had it all romance, mystery, friendship, sass, and fun. This is a great escape read. I need to visit Savannah now. A great enjoyable read. I loved the narrator.
This isn't a book for the high school library, but I do recommend it to my adult friends looking for a fun read.
What is not to love about this book?!? There's mystery, romance, and HgTV, all set on cozy Tybee Island. Young widow, Hattie Kavanaugh, is a young widow working for her father-in-laws company working to restore historic homes on Tybee Island. When Hattie falls in love with a shack of a home, and wins the auction bid, she sets out to restore this dilapidated 100 year old home. Oh, and she's committed to restoring this home on television with a "Hollywood hunk" as her co-star! But, when pieces of evidence from a 20+ year case begin to, quite literally, fall out of the walls, she sets out to not only restore the home, but to learn what happened to her beloved teacher who went missing many years earlier.
With a home to restore, a murder to solve, and oh yeah, two possible romantic interests, Hattie sets out to prove everyone wrong and to make everything right.
The Homewreckers was a fun and cozy read and kept me engaged throughout with so many intriguing twists and turns. I wanted to cheer Hattie on through all the speed bumps along the way and to see her not just survive the show and renovation, but to come out of it all thriving.
Fantastic job by narrator Kathleen McInerney.
Mary Kay Andrews has gifted us with another bestseller!

This book was an enjoyable listen and would be a good summer beach read, but it wasn't overly exciting for me and won't likely be super memorable. I feel like if you're a Mary Kay Andrews fan, you'll likely enjoy this one as it definitely has her typical vibes.
Hattie Kavanaugh is a 30-something-year-old widow who works for her father-in-law flipping houses. She's going through a bout of bad luck and losing money on houses when she's approached by a HGTV-like network that wants to give her her own show. She's reluctant, but eventually agrees when she realizes what it could mean for her and her father-in-law's company. But the first house she's flipping, on Savannah's Tybee Island has a story to tell. And it's connected to a missing teacher who Hattie remembers from when she was a teen.
The mystery definitely takes over in the book and that's the focus much more than home renovation or romance. There is some romance in the book, but it feels a little forced to me. Like Andrews knew she needed some so she forced Hattie into something that didn't totally feel natural.
The Homewreckers isn't totally my kind of book, but it's a fairly enjoyable read that Mary Kan Andrews' fans will likely love!
