This book delivers on it’s promise - it is a great beach/ summer read and now I want to visit Savannah where the book is set. It is a sweet romance, an intriguing murder mystery and great insight into house flipping and the TV shows that have sprung up around it - do you like those ? I love all the different fixer upper shows …

The mystery is great, a cold case getting new light after new evidence is found at the construction site. The romance is a thoughtfully and believably done sweet romance after the loss of a partner. Readers will root for Hattie, the main character, as she experiences healing, develops self-confidence, and eventually finds love in this absorbing story.

This was a wonderfully fun listen ! Kathleen McInerney’s narration was fantastic and fit the story well !

As always. Mary Kay Andrews doesn’t disappoint. Little bit of love, mystery, murder and HgTV—can’t go wrong. Loved the strong, independent main character, Hattie and really enjoyed picturing the renovation. If this actually was a TV show, I’d watch!

When Hattie Kavanaugh’s husband dies young, she continues to work for Kavanaugh and Sons with her father-in-law, Tug, buying and restoring old historic homes in Savannah. It’s a world she’s pours her heart and soul into. When approached by Mo Lopez, a Hollywood producer, to star in a reality TV show sharing her passion of saving Savannah, Hattie is reluctant at first, but is swayed and reluctantly accepts. While Mo has his agenda, the network has a bigger one and soon Saving Savannah is called The Homewreckers complete with a dreamy designer that is suppose to bring sparks to the show. Sparks do fly, but some of them are arson. Hattie purchased a derelict old beach house on Tybee Island to restore for the show, but the restoration is immediately off to a bad start, this project just might get the best of her and it’s being broadcast for the whole world to see! No press is bad press, but when a mystery from the past comes back to haunt them, can anything else go wrong? With deadlines looming and tempers flaring, will Hattie be able to save her reputation and pull off Homewreckers and will the mysterious disappearance of Lanier Ragan finally be put to rest? Andrews brings historic Tybee Island and Savannah to life while weaving in a mysterious disappearance, an inside look at a reality show and an opportunity for second chances. With a cast of characters that you will come to a love and hate in equal measures and perfectly voiced by Kathleen McInerney, Homewreckers is the perfect beach read!

3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read this book early. I feel like MKAndrews is a solid and reliable 3.5 star author for me. Her books blend romance, women's fiction and mystery together in a way that is pretty unique, but all of her books seem to be 50-100 pages too long and this one was no exception. This is about a young widow named Hattie. She is estranged from her parents and works for her father in law doing renovations. She is working on a house that ends up being a fail so they have to sell and she's super discouraged. A TV producer from "HGTV" comes and propositions her to star in a show called "Saving Savannah" where she gets to do what she loves. She's really resistant to it but her best friend convinces her to do it. However, as things always do, they get more complicated. The show name switches to "Homewreckers", she gets a hollywood designer counterpart (male) and she has to go to wardrobe and makeup before filming. Of course, there are also the staged scenes but this situation has no shortage of drama. They find a missing woman's wallet in the walls and then later find a dead body in the house so we have the mystery of the body and the missing woman. Theres a lot of intertwined stories and red herrings including the former golden boy who's family owned the house and his parents, an old high school friend, the missing woman and her family, etc. Theres a love triangle between Hattie and the show producer and the hollywood carstar. Overall, its cute and very typical of MKA!

After sinking all of her savings into a money pit, Hattie Kavanaugh has to accept that she's taken on a project she can't finish. Working for her father-in-laws company, Kavanaugh and Son, the young widow feels a tremendous amount of guilt for selling the house at a loss. Enter into her life, Mo, a TV Producer from Los Angeles who envisions a new reality TV show featuring Hattie, a contractor, as she flips a new house in her hometown of Savannah, GA.

The Homewreckers is a mixture of genres. There is romance, chick lit and a murder mystery which leaps from the traditional beach read you'd expect from author, Mary Kay Andrews. Coming in at 14 and a half hours, The Homewreckers is also on the longer side and I do think it could have been culled down significantly.

Overall the book was entertaining with a host of characters you can connect with along with a group of characters you will love to hate. Hattie is charming and intelligent which makes her easy to root for and Mo turns out not to be the slimy type I initially expected. It is definitely worth the read and I do recommend it.

I listened to an audiobook eARC version of The Homewreckers thanks to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and author, Mary Kay Andrews.

The Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews follows Hattie Kavanaugh, contractor for her late husband’s family owned/run business - Kavanaugh and Son’s Restoration. After a major flop on her last project, Hattie is hopeful the next restoration will be a great one. Hattie is approached by a producer, Mo, to consider being on a new DIY/Flip Home Restoration show-The Homewreckers. After some hesitation, Hattie agrees.

Overall this story was a light, summery read! It is perfect for a summer vacation. The prologue opens up years earlier and leads us down a mystery plot line. Personally, I wish this whole story focused on that. That is the reason I gave this book 3 stars and the fact that I could have done without the minimal romance. I enjoyed the restoration bits and pieces we got but I wanted more.

Kathleen McInerney is a great narrator and did a wonderful job giving these characters voices. I recommend the audiobook! Lay back on the beach and hit play!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for access to an early recording of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

Mary Kay Andrews does not disappoint in her love of Georgia. In her latest book, The Homewreckers, she's turned her real-life experience of home-flipping into another fun read. Hattie Kavanaugh, after some disastrous mistakes renovating a house, needs money. Enter a slick TV producer with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get the money she so desperately needs to finish the renovations and keep the family business from going under. She's partnered up with the show host who might or might not be a potential love interest, and her renovation turns into more than just a means to an end. To add to the show's story line, a discovery in the bathroom wall points to the mysterious disappearance of a young wife and mother years before, and this is more than Hattie needs piled on her plate. Will she survive the renovation? Will she save her family's business? Will the mystery of the missing woman be solved? The Homewreckers is a wild ride that will keep you turning the pages.

Homewreckers, by Mary Kay Andrews is the story of plucky, good-hearted, Hattie Kavanaugh, who has suffered more than her fist share of loss and heartache from her father’s scandals and abandonment to her husband’s early, tragic death. Despite all, she has forged on, with her best friend by her side, faithful dog at her heels, and a close working relationship with her father-in-law, restoring and flipping old houses in Savannah.

After a particularly disastrous flip, that cost her far more than she bargained for, Hattie is unexpectedly given an opportunity to host a reality television show, Homewreckers, flipping houses that are a bit of a disaster and giving them new life. She’s decidedly reluctant, but also sees it for the financial opportunity it is.

This story is a romance, a mystery, and a story of letting go and moving on after tragedy. It’s a story of perseverance, with a lighter side of comedic relief through some of the banter. This story is light and funny, but also delves into some decidedly deeper, darker issues, as well.

I can’t say that I agreed with the moral choices the characters made, and at times it was hard to believe the reality of one calamity after another occurring. But I do think the author portrayed a rather authentic look at the reality show situation quite accurately and as always, her stories portray such vivid descriptions of the locale, you feel you are there yourself. Kathleen Mcinerney narrates the audio version of this book and she’s one of my favorite voices in audiobooks. She has such a clear, casual, realistic voice that always suits the characters perfectly and draws you into the story.

HomeWreckers is an entertaining Southern-fiction story that covers a lot of genres and issues and would be a great choice for a summer read.

This was a really fun light listen. I had a few issues with it but overall it was really fun to read. I am an HGTV fan so I loved what was basically a story of making the show but with romance and mystery thrown in there for some extra spice.

The story is easy to read, the writing is well done and the cast of character is fantastic. I also really enjoyed the mystery aspect, that made the book a lot more exciting. I found the end of the mystery a little bit unbelievable but it was still enjoyable. The reason I knocked a star off my review though was because the main character had some idiotic moments. She doesn't come across as stupid, quite the opposite but there were a few times were I was like COME ON. I just couldn't believe that character would be that naive.

Overall though I really enjoyed listening. The narrator, Kathleen Mclnerny, did a fantastic job with this one and I really liked her performance.

Overall I enjoyed the characters in this book. The flow of the romance was a little off in my opinion. If you are a fan of Mary Kay Andrews you won’t want to miss this one.

Hattie is a contractor in Savannah who loves restoring old houses. She is approached by Mo, a reality TV producer to do a show on her newest project. Needing the money she says yes without knowing all that’s about to come with the reality tv show and the condemned beach house she just bought. Did I mention there’s a dead body too?

I loved The Newcomer so when I saw The Homewreckers, I needed it. I was slightly let down by this one because I felt like Andrew’s focused way too much on the renovation and the reality TV show. I wanted more about the dead body, history about the house and the romance between Hattie and Mo, which practically didn’t even exist until the last chapter and they were magically in love.

I will say, the audiobook was great! Kathleen McInerney did an amazing job at narrating the book! Which is why I gave her 4 stars!

Thank you @stmartinspress and @macmillianaudio for gifting me an ALC and eARC in exchange for my honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Home-wreckers by Mary Kay Andrews
A special thanks to McMillan audio and NetGalley for the arc of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s not really summer for me until beach reads seasons starts! This Book has it all A mystery and a murder, deep family roots and best friends, and just enough romance to keep you interested. Hattie Kavanaugh as had it rough at 15 years old her father was sent to prison for embezzling. Her parents split up and her mom moved away and she moved in with her best friend’s family. She got married at 20 to her high school sweetheart and was widowed at 25 when he was killed in a motorcycle accident. She still works for her husband’s family owned home restoration business but after sinking all of her money into a real loser she’s ready to throw in the towel.
When Moe a TV producer for HPTV approaches her to be the host on a new house flipping show. She’s finally seeing a way out but she has to come up with the funds to purchase the condemned house on Tybee Island.
When she wins the bid her trouble isn’t over if it could go wrong… it goes wrong but when a body is discovered in an old septic tank on the property the who done it part starts.
MKA knows what’s she’s doing! Her characters have so much depth. She the queen of the will they won’t they scenario which always makes for a great read.

After losing money on a bad investment, home restorer Hattie Kavanaugh decided to get involved in a reality show about home renovation. Unfortunately, there seemed to be multiple problems related to both the show's format and the home's history.

This story did a good job of intertwining the past history of the home and the rehab process. This story focused on a diverse cast of characters and I found myself rooting for the good ones and booing for those who were bad. Although I found the audiobook a bit long (the book has 448 pages), I enjoyed it nonetheless. My thanks to NetGalley for the complimentary audiobook. The opinions expressed are my own.

I love Mary Kay Andrews and her new book, The Homewreckers! Even though the book is a light, easy read, it is obvious Ms. Andrews did her research. There is a strong story that leads the reader on a journey of home building, reality TV filming and of course lots of Savannah history. The main character, Hattie, is tenacious and stubborn but she's always kind and vulnerable. The story has mystery, intrigue, murder and romance. What more can a reader want?.

Homewreckers by Mary Kay Andrews pulled me in from the very beginning. As a fan of HGTV, I could envision so many details. I loved how the book evolved and the characters were developed. Hattie and Mo appealed to me the most. The author surprised me with some events in the book. The twists were excellent! I want to thank #NetGalley and #Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen to the pre-release audiobook. I loved it so much, I purchased my own copy of it. Kathleen McInerney was great bringing the characters to life with her voice, and had the appropriate emotions.

Thank you to NetGalley and Mary Kay Andrews for this ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

Hattie Kavanaugh is a Savannah native whose life has been turned upside down a couple of times. Her husband died tragically in a motorcycle accident. Hattie works with her father in law Tug restoring and flipping old homes. A chance overheard conversation in a café leads Mo, a television producer to come upon Hattie's latest project home. Mo approaches Hattie with a new television idea, HomeWreckers. Hattie is hesitant but feels like this could be a good opportunity for her little town. Unfortunately the home they choose harbors a 17-year old secret. Will the mystery disappearance of Hattie's favorite teacher finally be solved?

I loved loved this mystery, chick-lit novel from Mary Kay Andrews. This novel had it all. I was shocked, saddened, surprised, and in love with these characters. From the descriptions of the house I felt like I was there. I love seeing old homes restored so this novel was right up my alley. This is the perfect beach read!!

This one is a home reno tv show with a side of mystery and a hint of romance. It kept me entertained and wanting to see how things would unfold. I loved the main character and was rooting for her the whole time. She was trying to be successful in house flipping while overcoming grief and finding what she wants. My first book by this author and I will for sure read another.

The Home-wreckers buy Mary Kay Andrews has a little bit of something for everyone. A little bit of romance, suspense and mystery, as well as a pluck at the trending home renovation circuit, there is even a little for those who are drawn by southern home charm.
The story moves along quickly, as the main character Hattie Kavanaugh, works her way through the trials of renovating a historic home in the setting of Savannah Georgia…and also dealing with all that’s goes along with that. Which includes finding a long dead body.
The bit of drama, by the way of marital infidelity, murder and the trials of teenage antics (which does include the mention of sex) are the typical storylines for an easy-going suspense story. The romance and home renovation lines have a expected and anticipated positive ending.
It will make a good summer beach/vacation read.

If the television shows that were described in the story were real shows on real TV, I would watch them. They sound like something I’d be interested in, and therefore that there draw for the southern home and home renovation market for this book.

I only gave it three stars, because of the portrayal of the main female character.
I never like when an authors portray the main female character as supposedly smart and brave …they actually write those words into the story, but then most of her actions in the book always show her to be gullible and naïve. Actions speak louder than words, as the saying goes.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to have an opportunity to read and/or listen to this book by Mary Kay Andrews.

I am sad to say this was my first Mary Kay Andrews book. It won't be my last though. I was amazed at how she was able to incorporate so many genres in one story. The story is long, but I didn't want to stop.

🔨Grab your sweet tea and settle in on your porch swing for this gender-defying, suspenseful, love story. Hattie, full of grit and determination, rebuilds a historic house on Tybee Island as part of her new role as TV Host. The setting is perfection. However, Hattie just can't catch a break as one bad thing happens after another. It's almost as if someone is trying to sabotage her house and her show. Bless Her Heart.
🔨This is my favorite Mary Kay Andrews book that I've read so far. I didn't think the romance made sense as there didn't seem to be much chemistry (but I found that lacking in The Newcomers as well so it's probably just me). Otherwise, I enjoyed this one and think it will be on the top of everyone's beach read pile in the summer.
