I have always wanted to try Mary Kay Andrews! Her book covers and titles always seem so fun and summery.
I definitely feel like this was a good place to start.
"The Homewreckers" is a story about Hattie Kavanaugh who renovates homes with her late husband's father.
After a failed renovation, she accepts an offer to join a House Flipping television show in the hopes she can recover some of her losses.

The setting of Savannah and Tybee Island in Georgia was fun and I enjoyed looking up images on the internet of the locations mentioned in the book.
I was also pleased to discover that the mystery element of the story was not just a secondary plot. I love a good mystery and this one was intriguing.

I found the relationships in the book to be one of the best parts of the story. I loved Hattie's relationship with her late husband's father. And her relationship with her estranged father was also an interesting dynamic.
The romance in the story did not interest me quite as much.

If you love audiobooks like I do, I thought the narrator Kathleen McInerney, did a wonderful job.

Many thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for approving my request to listen and review an advance audio copy of this title!

Hattie is in the home renovation business. It is a yearning deep in her soul to resurrect old homes from squalor and bring them back to life. She started working for her future father in law at Kavanaugh and Sons at 18, married her true love at 20, and lost him to a motorcycle accident at 25. She remained true to her roots and continued working for the company even after her husband dies.

When Hattie is approached about starring in a home renovation tv show she is hesitant. They can’t take her for who she is at face value and keep editing her to fit their narrative. Her co-host seems a little anxious to pursue a romantic relationship with her for the cameras…and the property they are renovating for the show seems to keep being sabotaged by someone…but who, and why, and how hard will they try to get this crew off of the property?

In my opinion this book was okay but it tried to be too much: a television show drama, a romance, and a mystery - but it didn’t focus enough on one thing and felt jumbled. The relationships among the romance characters were also unrealistic and cheesy. Meh.

I do not do this often, but I was able to both read this and listen to this book and I loved it. I read it when I was able to sit and curl up with a book, but then I was able to continue to read while commuting and spending time in my garden, I hope I can do more of this in the near future.

A combination of a great women's fiction and a mystery in this one book. Hattie Kavanaugh lives in Charleston, SC and a young widow who is working with her father in law to renovate older homes around the city. After a poor purchase, Hattie is trying to undo her mistakes and prove everyone and herself wrong that she can be the future of this company. While at a coffee shop telling her friend her woes, a tv producer hears their conversation and is coincidentally in pursuit of his next show idea.

While the romance part of the story was predictable, but great. I loved the inclusion of the mystery and the author perfectly tied it to the home renovation and tv show, so it didn't feel from left field! The plot perfectly twisted and turned and I was so hooked from beginning to end.

AND Hattie was so fun! With each page, I wanted to find a Hattie and have her as my friend. Mary Kay Andrews creates women who are, sure fictional, but they are fun and quirky and full and the women that you want in your crew. I love that these women are whole and they love they have loss, they work and have fun.

After finishing this book, I immediately wanted to hop into another one of her books and I am making it a goal to get into her backlist and just enjoy the women that Mary Kay Andrews creates.

Many thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for gifting me both a digital and audio ARC of the latest story by Mary Kay Andrews, wonderfully narrated by Kathleen McInerney - 5 stars for a wonderful book to get lost in!

Hattie Kavanaugh met her husband, Hank, when she went to work for his family restoration business. But she became a widow at age 25 when Hank was killed in a motorcycle accident. Hattie continued working for her father-in-law, with her best friend as her construction foreman. But their last house renovation lost money and she's desperate for money so as not to hurt the business. When a producer shows up in Savannah with an idea for a reality TV show, she decides it's her chance to make back some money. But she may have gotten more than she bargained for with the house she bought at auction.

I love Mary Kay Andrews' stories - it feels like summer is definitely here when you can immerse yourself in another of her books. I loved the mix of house renovation talk, romance, a cold case mystery, and the Hollywood lights come to shine in Georgia. Highly recommended - this should be your first beach read of the year!

This novel is some of the author’s best work in my opinion! So funny and witty. This one was one I just wanted to keep going forever. Definitely a must read (or listen)!

Hattie Kavanaugh has had her share of trials, her husband Hank was killed in a motorcycle accident 7 years ago. Working for her father in law as a contractor specializing in house flipping, she loves what she does and that’s enough for her. That is until Hollywood producer Mo spies a hopeless home that she is trying to rehab and instantly begs her to become his next shows star. After lots of convincing she relents and they find a mess of a home with waterfront property. With a shocking surprise found within the walls of the home, a mystery and a possible chance at a second love Hattie has her work cut out for her.

This book would be perfect for a lazy summer afternoon. I really enjoyed the story line. Without giving anything away the mystery plot that was a major part of the story was a nice surprise and written very well, I was guessing until the end. The one part that was iffy to me was the romance plot at the very end of the book. I felt like it came out of nowhere and was pretty rushed. It felt mostly out of place in the story. Overall I really enjoyed the book and I would definitely recommend!

The narrater Kathleen McInerney did a fabulous job. The way she voiced each character was wonderful! The book takes place in Savannah, Georgia and she nailed the accent in my opinion. It was a very enjoyable audiobook.

A huge thanks to #netgalley and #macmillanaudio for the chance to listen to a review this ARC.

This book wasn’t really for me. The premise is nice but there is so much detail and such a long drawn out book. I couldn’t get into it at all. The narration is good.

The Homewreckers is basically HGTV with a dash of murder and I AM HERE FOR IT!!!

I adored this story about a fixer-upper reality TV series and its female lead contractor. From the dead body and subsequent murder mystery to the detailed home renovation discussions – this book has it all.

Throw in a beach setting and a romance or two and it’s basically beach read heaven. All hail Mary Kay Andrews and her amazing summer reads.

Once again, Mary Kay Andrews shows her mastery of combining Women’s Fiction with Mystery. The story has interesting, well-developed characters and a plot that will have you riveted to read more. There are several light-hearted moments that made this a highly entertaining read.

The fact that Hattie is a home restorer on the fictitious HPTV network who is paired with a designer makes for an interesting dynamic. Hattie is used to designing/decorating her restoration homes and is a little affronted to have this loss of control. Moreover, the financial burden of renovating this home within a budget has Hattie feeling more than a little stressed.

The discovery of a wallet in the walls of the home leads to a mystery. It seems the identity of the owner of the wallet is a wife and mother who has been missing for the past 17 years. Furthermore, there is much more drama to engage the readers in this home renovation. That is, besides finding the home in much worse shape than Hattie had expected.

I appreciated the strength of Hattie’s character who is driven in a business where women are not always given the respect they deserve. Andrews does a good job in pointing this out. There is a bit of romance in this book, but it is not a romance novel. Set in Tybee Island Georgia, The Homewreckers is a thoroughly enjoyable read and one I’ll be recommending over and over again.

I listened to the audiobook version of The Homewreckers which was narrated by Kathleen McInerney. Her performance was enjoyable, and easy to listen to. I appreciated her ability to adapt her voice to multiple characters with realism. I have no hesitation in recommending the audiobook version to those that appreciate this format.

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this read! As a fan of Mary Kay Andrew’s books, I found this premise refreshing with the addition of a bit of mystery. The main character of Hattie is relatable with her dealing with trying to move on after her husband's death while dealing with her future as far as her romantic life goes.

Hattie’s love is restoring houses, it's the one thing that has helped her deal with her loss however when she is offered a chance to be on a TV show doing exactly that she is hesitant, to say the least. All she wanted to do was her job while the higher-ups want to focus more on pushing a romance between her co-star and herself. However, we see that sparks happen between Hattie and someone else, which I loved! While the romance was good I really felt the relationship between Hattie and her best friend was the real gem here. They have been there for each other through thick and thin and even today they have each other’s back.

While Hattie’s life and work is the main storyline I also enjoyed the second storyline of the mystery surrounding a missing teacher back in the day and how Hattie’s house flip is involved.

All in all this book was funny and the storyline was a good one. The characters were all relatable and interesting plus the twist of the bit of mystery was a plus. Once again Mary Kay Andrews delivers a solid summer read I would recommend… hands down!

This book was a mix of mystery and romance that felt very easy to get into. I really loved the “HGTV reno show” setting. While some aspects seemed really far fetched, it was still an enjoyable read. Would make a perfect summer beach read!

A new book from Mary Kay Andrews means that summer is just around the corner. Her books always have a touch of the South along with a bit of mystery and a bit of romance!

This is my third book by MKA and I am a fan! I listened to this one on audio and Kathleen McInerney did a great job depicting each character!

Hattie (a young widow) is a workaholic and has thrown herself into her career as a contractor who renovates old homes.

Hattie reluctantly agrees to star in an upcoming reality 📺 show to help with the losses of a failed project. With only 6 weeks of time, Hattie must work with a charismatic designer and a determined producer both from LA to get this house remodeled and 📺 ready. However, one disaster after another strikes this beach home, and an unsolved mystery from the past becomes a dangerous situation that threatens a whole lot more than just this home.

Mary Kay Andrews has done it again! I loved this murder mystery/HGTV show story with a twist of romance. I truly did not know what was going to happen from the beginning like I do with most romance/mystery books. Hattie Kavanaugh works with her father in law for Kavanaugh & Son Restoration where they restore historic homes in Savannah. All of a sudden, a Hollywood producer shows up and offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to star in a home renovation show, Saving Savannah. The producers idea is overtaken by his boss and it is turned into the Homewreckers and Hattie has a costar, Trey, who turns on the charm and tries to "woo" Hattie. While they are working on the house, some old drama comes up relating to the disappearance of a young woman who had actually been Hattie's teacher. The detective works with Hattie to uncover the truth while there is lots of other eventful things that happen while working on the house.

This adorable book was perfect for me! I’m a real estate agent married to a VP of a construction company, so hearing all about this homes flip was a total thrill!

The story follows young widow Hattie Kavanaugh as she runs a construction company with her best friend and father-in-law in Savannah, Georgia. After tanking on a recent flip, Hattie invests everything she has into a dilapidated beach home that seems to be riddled with mystery and eventually the scene of a unsolved crime.

Hattie gets an opportunity for an HGTV style TV show that could help bring in new and higher end clients to her construction business. This TV deal not only bring a male costar who is only after growing fame, but a tender hearted TV producer who falls for Hattie.

Riddled with banter, complex characters, and so many reveals, it will be a perfect summer beach read!

My favorite part was the development of the crime and how our heroine kept unraveling a 17 year old mystery. The narrator for the audiobook was absolutely perfect! It felt like there were multiple narrators and she did it seamlessly!

I was so excited to get a copy of this audiobook before it's release date. The story was great and the narrator was fantastic as well. The audiobook was a little over 14 hours (I usually don't listen to longer audiobooks but this one was well worth the time I invested into listening).

I absolutely adored all of the characters. The MC is Hattie, an all-American girl next door, so wholesome and morally driven...she is also a young widow. Hattie's best friend is Cass, you couldn't ask for a better friend than Cass. These are the types of people you want to surround yourself with. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the dog....OMG so cute.

I laughed out loud a couple of times and was rooting for Hattie & Cass the entire time.

Throw in a scandal, a reality TV show and more than a few unsavory characters...you've got gold.

This novel had a tiny bit of steam sprinkled in too, but nothing over the top.

This is a perfect beach read, or anytime read really. I 100% recommend this book, I enjoyed it from start to finish.

An endearing story set in/near Savannah, Georgia about beach house flipping, reality tv shows, finding love again after loss, plenty of drama, and a murder mystery(???!)

Hattie Kavanaugh restores homes for a living with her father-in-law’s business. She stayed and works her hands to the bone even after the death of her young husband in a terrible accident. Hattie is working on a losing money-pit in Savannah’s beautiful historic district when her luck changes, or rather, comes crashing through and lands right on top of her. Hattie gets a shot at starring in a new reality television show called “the Homewreckers” on a well-known home channel where she and a hot and famous male co-star flip beach homes. Hattie ends up landing a good deal on a very neglected beachfront property for the show, when mayhem and drama start to occur. What secrets does this property hold? Will they finish the project in time? Will Hattie fall in love in the process? Will the show be a hit? You’ll want to read (or listen) to this book to find out!!

Wow! 14.5 hours of audio just flew right by. I really enjoyed this story and the narrator. I am a little biased because I love Georgia and spent a summer in Savannah. All of the descriptions were incredibly accurate, down to exact road names and descriptions of the beautiful trees and spanish moss, which made me feel like I was transported right back there on a beautiful Georgia summer day. In fact, I swam with dolphins myself at Tybee Island once upon a time.

I am not going to lie, this is my first MKA novel because I jumped on the bandwagon. I had an incorrect stereotype in my head that she wrote sweet and clean romance novels geared toward older women (I am in my late twenties). I was SO wrong. This won’t be my last!

The Homewreckers
by: Mary Kay Andrews
narrator: Kathleen McInerney
Macmillan Audio
genre: Women's Fiction
pub date: 5/3/22

Mary Kay Andrews delivers laughs, romance, mystery and a big splash of home renovation capers in The Homewreckers. Narrator Kathleen McInerney's expressive voice reflects the spirit of Andrews' writing in the audiobook version.

We know that MKA is passionate and respectful of vintage items and historical structures, as well the beautiful islands and coast of Georgia. The pages of her new release reflect those interests, and the book arrives just in time for Spring and Summer relaxation through a good audiobook listen.

Main character Hattie is a young widow who works in the home restoration business in Savannah with her father-in-law. Along comes an offer to star in a reality home renovation television show, thanks to a charismatic West Coast producer. Calamities, disasters, and suspense take over. As this Georgia girl navigates Hollywood stardom and expectations, she struggles to stay afloat financially and romantically while staying true to herself.

This entertaining book, with McInerney's accomplished narration, is superb to help unwind from worries and to-do lists. I live in Georgia, so a setting in a gorgeous area of my state is just up my alley. McInerney

This is a very entertaining book, especially on audio! There is a lot going on but it's extremely easy to follow along. It's almost like getting two books in one. There's romance, an old murder mystery, some more romance and lots of drama!

The narrator told the story in a way where you could easily keep track of each character. She was very entertaining.

My first time reading @marykayandrews. Thank you @netgalley for the advanced peek. I really enjoyed this novel. I kept thinking I knew the outcome but was surprised when it took another turn in a different direction. I will definitely recommend this title.

I need to read more Mary Kay Andrews and this book confirmed that for me. I went into this book blind and was expecting a Chip and Joanna Gains type of love story, but to my surprise, the story also turned into a murder mystery!

Hattie is a young widow who works with her father-in-law restoring houses in Savanah. When a TV network expenses interest in her company being the subject of a new show she takes the opportunity hoping this will help her gain a leg up financially. As she is filming the show, the crew finds a wallet belonging to a young teacher that went missing years before. Now that the case is re-open, things start happening around the set that puts their deadlines in jeopardy.

Although I have only read one book by Andrews before this one, I really adore her writing. This book in particular was so fun and easy to digest. The community she creates in her stories are so welcoming for the reader, I felt like I was part of the town. The Savanah / beach house setting makes this the perfect kick-off for summer reading. This was an audiobook for me, which is not my favorite way to read, but I loved the narrator and how she created a voice for each character. I listened to it during a road trip with my fiance and even he was dying to see how the story would unfold.
