This is ultimately a book about secrets and the damage they can do. It unfolds as a roller coaster of a ride through the lives of married couple Michael and Natalie and their two children, who take a vacation trip to New York. Michael and Natalie hope to get their troubled marriage back on track on the trip. But the vacation quickly becomes a nightmare for Michael when he goes out to pick up a pizza dinner for his family and comes back to an empty hotel room, with few clues as to where his wife and children have gone.
What follows is the slow disclosure of secrets as we learn more about their marriage as Michael searches for his family. Natalie has been battling a vicious cycle of stress that's led to insomnia which in turn fuels her stress and delusions. To further fuel her stress, Natalie rightly senses that Michael has his own secrets, which are hinted at but are slowly revealed throughout the story. We aren't quite sure how reliable anyone is - Michael or Natalie or the people surrounding them. Overall it's an interesting book that kept me intrigued throughout. The narration of the audiobook by Karissa Vacker is excellent.
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for providing a copy for an unbiased review.

A family vacation turns into a nightmare for Michael Hart when he discovers his wife and two children have disappeared from their New York City hotel room. Horrified, he fears they’ve been kidnapped. Michael’s frantic search to find them takes a shocking turn when he discovers that his wife, Natalie, appears to have left quite willingly, taking their children with her. The police want to know why, and so does Michael. But there may be a reason why Natalie ran, something Michael can’t tell the police―the truth about his past.

While untangling his deceptions might be the key to locating Natalie, Michael knows it could also be his undoing. To find his wife, he must now turn to the one person capable of exposing all that he’s been hiding. Natalie thinks she has Michael all figured out and has hatched a plan to escape from him permanently. One detail, though, threatens to derail her efforts: sleep―or more accurately, the lack of it. Since the moment the shocking revelations about her husband came to light, Natalie’s insomnia has worsened to the point that she now suffers from delusions.

Are her fears about Michael valid―or a symptom of her condition? With her children’s lives at risk, the stakes for Natalie could not be higher. On her own, running low on energy and resources, avoiding increasingly close calls with Michael―who is on the hunt and closing in fast―Natalie needs someone to turn to for help. But who can she trust when she can’t even trust herself?

If you haven't read Mr. Palmer's books, now is the time to start. This book is packed with suspense that just builds more and more with each page to an explosive ending. One of his best stories!

I listened to this as an audiobook, and the narrator was on point for this one. I never found myself drifting off as I was listening, she held my attention the whole time.

This was an enjoyable audiobook that kept me guessing as to what really happened in Michael and Natalie's marriage, to the point where I wondered if Natalie's sleep deprivation was imagining the whole thing.
With the timeline, we slowly delve into the "before" with Natalie's POV which gives us a background as to why she took their children and is on the run from her husband. Every mother will understand her drive to protect her children, especially from their father, but the chapters from Michael's POV told us that there was more to the story than what showed on the surface.
It's a great story for thriller lovers. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me a copy.

D.J. Palmer shows how far a man will go in order to find his family, even if they don't want to be found:

A husband's worst nightmare comes true. While on vacation in NYC Micheal goes out to get pizza for his family and when he returns to the hotel they are all missing. The only thing left behind is his son's favourite Teddy Bear. Convinced they have been kidnapped Michael quickly contacts the police but is soon proven wrong by security camera footage, the family left of their own free will. Now things turn toward Michael, why would his wife flee with their children? All Michael knows is that he needs to find his family, his wife has been unstable lately with insomina issues and he thinks that is what has caused her to flee and could be a danger to herself and the kids.

This is the second book that I have read by Palmer and her first book The perfect Daughter, was almost the perfect book for me, so I had high hopes for this book as well. I will say that it had me hooked from the very beginning with Michael returning home to discover that his wife and children are missing and then getting the perspective of Natalie and where they were/why but my overall investment of the book waned as the book went on. It lost the suspense as the farther we went into the book and it felt like all Natalie did was drive, drive, drive and then drive some more, tell us that Natalie suffers from insomnia but never really address this aspect fully in the book. She doesn't know what is there and what is not but this unique aspect was under utilized throughout the book. The last 25 % of the book are fairly intense as everything and everyone seem to come together at once and while I was able to predict part of the ending I was not able to see the full twist that Palmer had coming.

I keep debating whether I like how this story was laid out with the present and before events, essentially we eventually get to why Natalie ran. Normally I like these POV but I'm not sure it worked entirely for this book or maybe there was just a few too name of the before POV of Natalie where more of her insomnia instances are established (but never fully explored...sorry if I keep repeating myself). Michael and Natalie are both unreliable characters in the book, Natalie due to her mental health and Michael due to secrets he is keeping. And can you really know the person that you love.

This was a good book, it kept me entertained but it did slow down quite a bit and get repetitive near the middle of the book, which caused the story to lag. I like the twists that Palmer came up with in the end story and I couldn't actually figure it all out. I look forward to reading more by Palmer.

Enjoy!!!

My Wife is Missing is a good read. I enjoyed the story throughout but wished the initial grab the reader pace held true for the rest of the book. There are many twists and turns that I found interesting and the ending a satisfying conclusion. The narration by Karissa Vacker is incredible. I love her voice and will look for my audiobooks narrated by her.

Thank you so much for the advance listening copy of My Wife is Missing for me to read and review. My Wife Is Missing came out on May 10 - available now!

Michael Hart has left his family at their hotel in New York City to pick up pizza for dinner and is shocked to find them gone on his return. There is no note, no reason for them to be gone, and the only thing left behind is his sons Teddy laying in the hallway.

Though the police quickly determine that Natalie has left with the children have left of her own will, Michael is determined to find them and figure out why.

The fast pace of this novel lends itself well to the audiobook format, because the quick spinning chapters keep the reader listening much longer than they expect at a time.

This was one twisty read. Past secrets, intertwining with an uncertain current made it so I had no idea what to believe or where the story was going.

The multiple perspectives, and flash back chapters really helped to build the storyline and give away just enough information at a time to keep me reading.

I think I could have done without the epilogue, but I understand why the author included it to tie up loose strings. And I'm sure if it hadn't been there I would be unhappy with not knowing how the final pieces fit together.

This was a very twisty thriller with a possibly unreliable narrator due to her her insomnia. As you progress through the story, you wonder who is responsible for what.

I found some of this story to be very realistic and other parts to be a bit unbelievable. The first half of the story is mostly a long action scene with background peppered throughout to give you an understanding of how the characters got to where they are now. The second half adds a bunch of twists that may have you switching your allegiances a couple of times.

I half to admit that I was able to work out a couple of the twists, but not all of them.

Overall, I rather enjoyed the story. I recommend this one for fans of mysteries or thrillers where you don't really know what is going on or who to trust. If you love those big ending twists that give you whiplash, give this one a try.

4.5 stars, rounded up! I absolutely LOVE D.J. Palmer's thrillers! Check out his thrillers if you haven't already. This was yet another gripping thriller novel with unreliable narrators (we LOVE this for our psychological thrillers am I right!?) I was gripped the entire time and did not see the most massive twist coming at the end! HIGHLY recommend this novel.

That, my friends, was a WILD ride….MY WIFE IS MISSING starts off with a bang, and never goes down, a husband and wife and two children arrive in New York City for a family vacation, and the father goes to pick up some pizza to bring back to the hotel because the children are starving….he returns a half hour later, and he finds his son’s teddy bear in the hallway and NO sign of his family; no luggage in the room, etc., and hotel security footage soon shows in the first couple chapters his wife willingly leaving the hotel with his children and getting into a waiting car…… This become a fast paced intense cat and mouse thriller; and I really loved it. I thought the writing was sharp and witty, there’s some humor in there as well as so much suspense, and the ending was really well done imo.

A terrific new psychological thriller coming from St. Martin’s Press on May 10th! Thanks SMP for the ARC!

Right from the very beginning this tale pulls you in and doesn’t let you go.
From the initial gut retching discovery that his family is missing, to be unbelievable and easily believable twists and turns, you are taking on a roller coaster ride of emotions.
This story keeps you asking yourself “who is right, who is wrong, Who is lying and who’s telling the truth… And more importantly who is crazy and who is insane?”
It also makes you question your own perceptions of husband and wife relationship, of family, friendships and trust, and who can you really trust.
This book kept me it’s grasp from beginning to end.
This story also may make you wonder, what innocuous things you may have missed in your own life… they say hindsight is 20/20. What will you see?
No spoilers here, you probably wouldn’t believe me anyway, until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to experience this wonderful story by D. J. Palmer.

What a wild ride!

This was very exciting and thrilling, and a lot of moments that made you wonder what the hell was going on.

I kind of went into this blind and it went in so many directions that made me wonder how it would end. Definitely didn't see anything that came my way. It was almost too difficult to guess who did it? I really enjoyed the back and forth between past and present. The ending was a bit underwhelming which is why it got only 4 stars, but I still really enjoyed this one and can't wait to see what DJ Palmer releases next!

The narrator did an amazing job! Will definitely be looking into other audiobooks she did.

3.5
Story line that we have read before with some twists and turns.
My biggest complaint on this is we don’t have a character we can trust.

Good writing with not a lot of characters so let the conspiracies start.

D.J. Palmer is set to entertain you this summer! Thank you so much to NetGalley for this advanced audiobook! Micheal Hart discovered his wife and children have disappeared while on their vacation in New York City. He frantically searches for them and gains help from the police. What Michael doesn’t know is his wife Natalie left willingly with their children. The story weaves through the chase to find out what happened to Natalie and the children.

Thanks # netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this book. Didn't expect the twists. Listened to the audio book and enjoyed the narrator.

I’ve seen this one a lot! @djpalmerauthor is very popular, and for good reason, but I still wanted to pop in an add my thoughts.

I actually ended up doing this one completely as audio. I found it pretty easy to follow, but did have to rewind the end to figure out what exactly had happened. The narrator did a great job, and although it was a fairly long audiobook it felt like it flew by. This is my third by @djpalmerauthor and I feel like I’ve liked every book and they keep getting better! This one kept me guessing, I don’t think I was able to figure out one thing! If you liked @djpalmerauthor previous books or domestic thrillers I think you will enjoy this one!

Thank you @stmartinspress and @macmillan.audio for my audio and physical copy and the cute bear!

A domestic thriller I actually liked! And the ending caught me completely off guard! WOOHOO! I still think I like the Perfect Daughter more (if you haven’t read it, do it. It’s his book that he published last year) but this one is completely binge worthy and well worth your time if you enjoy, (or in my case even if you don’t,) domestic thrillers.

NOTE** I love how D.J Palmer always includes a well researched and accurately portrayed medical syndrome or disorder in one of his main characters. He always does a wonderful job of protecting the ‘patient’ and respecting the disease!
