Loved this compelling story, and adore the narrations. Jason Clarke is one of my favorite narrators. Stella Bloom is new to me, but I'm going to listen more of her audiobooks.
I loved this book. London felt, to me, like a very relatable character. As someone who struggles with anxiety (specifically biting my nails and picking the skin around my nails - like London) it was nice to see that represented in a way that felt more accurate. I also loved Jackson and his willingness to do whatever he could to spend time with her, but in a way that wasn't creepy or overstepping. Overall, I loved this book and it has replaced Meet Cute as my favorite Helena Hunting book.
I was looking forward to this one because I really enjoyed book one but this one didn’t quite work for me unfortunately. I think one of the reasons I didn’t connect as much is because this one made me not like Avery (from book one) and Im glad Avery’s book came first because if it was the second or third in the series, after seeing how she was portrayed in this one, I would have never picked it up….
With that said, I enjoyed everything up until where she goes to New York with him but pretty much everything after that (namely the added drama of her being portrayed as the other women as I didn’t think that drama was necessary to add to the book) I didn’t care for as much.
I’ll keep reading the series because I love this author and her talent but I had higher hopes
for this one, for sure.
A smile resides between the lines of heartache, humor and life. Starry-Eyed Love is a charming mix of irony and emotion that stirs the mind while enticing the heart. From less than ideal to hard to resist, Hunting speaks the language of love with a dash of love and a sprinkling of common sense. From heartbreaking to heartwarming, Starry-Eyed Love is a breath of fresh air.
Oh my goodness - Starry-Eyed Love was my first Helena Hunting book and it won't be my last. I LOVED it! Billionaire + savvy, creative business woman who can hold her own? Yes, please! This story was absolutely adorable, had laugh out loud moments and some spice sprinkled in. My only complaint is from a technology standpoint, the male narrator seemed to have a lower volume recording.. I always had to turn the volume up on his parts, or maybe that was intentional by the author to have him sound dark and smouldering. I've also since learned that this is part of a series (one for each sister) but it can definitely be read as a standalone.
Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for allowing me to listen to the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is the second book in Helena Hunting's Spark House series, following the three Spark sisters as they each find love. This is London's story. As the sister who never feels comfortable asserting her own needs ahead of anyone else's, she is so deserving of a kind and giving man to let her know she's special and worthy. When Jackson enters the story, it's done quite well. She initially meets him in a dress down situation and has no idea who he is. When she meets him again, it makes it all the more fun. He's extremely wealthy but even though he's confident in his status, he doesn't wallow in it. He uses it to spoil London when he can though....and I did love that.
The book not only follows their push-pull relationship where at first he asks her out, then he pulls back and she asks him out and so on. Everything becomes complicated and confusing for them both until they figure out how to communicate about what is really going on between them. They're simply an adorable match.
I also enjoyed the fact that the story also deals with some of the friction and growing pains going on between the sisters regarding their joint venture, Spark House. It's good to see that sisterly relationship challenged to the point that they are forced to work through some issues as well.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: I toggled back and forth between the ebook and audiobook. For me, that made the book even more fun. It's the best of both worlds. I thought the narration was done well and would recommend it. 4 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
I wanted to enjoy this book but I just didn't. I liked each of the characters individually but for me they just didn't work as a couple. Also I felt like the sister lost every bit of progress she made in the previous work.
I just didn't connect with this book at all. I really wanted to but it didn't happen.
Spark house books#2
Thanks to NetGalley I got an early copy of audiobook. I read the first book a few months back and love it. The book was sweet and charming and I was invested in the series and loved Landon’s and Jackson’s love story and can’t wait for Harleys love story. The narrators were suited well to the characters and definitely added to the story experience for me. I’ll give it 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall.
After loving reading When Sparks Fly, the first book about the Sparks sisters, I was so excited to get an ALC of Starry-Eyed Love. Thank you NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the early copy in exchange for my honest opinion!
Starry-Eyed Love is London’s story, filled with her star-making crafts, her business savvy, and her love for her sisters. Her relationship starts with a wealthy man who lives in NY, so there are private jets back and forth between NY and Colorado - even though they both work for businesses with priorities in recycling and other environmental issues… The relationships between the sisters is my favorite part of this series. Maybe it’s because I’m an only child, but I love reading about siblings who really enjoy each other.
The audiobook alternates between female and male narrators based on the POV, which added to my enjoyment. I loved that the hobby horse scene from the first book was referenced because it made me crack up yet again!
Love the Spark sisters and London's story is a wonderful addition to the series. This slow burn, billionaire romance takes place when London and Jackson start working together. She doesn't want their relationship to interfere with the project and he won't give up on her. London finds her voice in this story and the way they evolve in this book makes this a great read!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book early! I haven't read the first in the series but I thought that was fine and still really enjoyed this book! This is about London and Jackson. London runs an event planning hotel called Spark House. She is the one in charge of a lot of the logistical stuff (bookkeeping etc). She and her sisters are at a bar one night shortly after a breakup for London and a very attractive guy pursues her but she says no way and blows him off. Come to find out, he is about to be a major client. She and Jackson start a working relationship, but it instantly starts with their history of her blowing him off. He takes it well with humor and continues to be very humble and kind with her throughout the story. Of course there is a conflict in the end involving his past and his lack of complete transparency about said past. That felt kind of out of character for him and I wished he would've just been completely upfront. I feel like there were a lot of things said that weren't technically lies but also weren't the full truth and thats SO ANNOYING to me. This book was good and if you're a romance lover I bet you'd love this one. For me, I need a little more sadness in my romance (haha) with some deep and hard pasts or events that bond them and this one is more of a fun, light hearted romance. This is a slow burn but its not fade to black and there are a few steamy scenes. They come after the relationship is established so I don't mind that, but if you are looking for a "sweet" romance, this isn't it. Overall, enjoyable!
SPOILERS AHEAD:
He had a friends with benefits relationship with a family friend for years after his parents died. It wasn't ever exclusive but he did propose to her. He's famous for his business so him dating London hits the tabloids and the other woman is hurt because she wanted more.
Theres also drama with London and her sisters because Avery wants Spark house to be everyone's everything but she isn't doing her part because of her upcoming wedding. They need to hire help but Avery won't let them until the very end.
Starry-Eyed Love is the second book in the Spark House series. It could be read as a stand alone if you haven’t read the first one yet.
This book was a fun and charming read. I really enjoyed watching Jackson and London’s relationship grow. The first part of the book was very business heavy, but as it went on I loved the banter and the steam!
I also enjoyed the dual POV. It’s great to get to enjoy both character’s perspectives!
I am hoping for a third book in the series, following the love life of youngest sister Harley!
Not my thing.
I’ve tried dozens of books like this and they all just feel the same. I feel like I can’t accomplish them because of my mental illnesses. My life doesn’t work that way and even when I’m healthy it doesn’t work that way.
The gangs all back and they are just as delightful as I remember them from the last book. This venture into the lives and loves of the ladies at Spark House worked a lot better for me than the last one did. I enjoyed the set up much better. The characters are great and I enjoy spending time with them even when they're behaviour annoys me. Can't wait for the next installment.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC
My expectations were pretty low going into this considering I didn’t like the first book in this series.
This book is told in dual POV but 90% of it was from London’s POV.
I hated London in the first book. I thought she was awful, but in this book I liked London and I hated Avery. So that was very confusing for me.
I’ve read a lot of books by this author and this series seems to be very low on steam compared to some of her other books which was kind of disappointing.
I’m not really sure why this series is being categorized as a romantic comedy. It’s not. I’ve read romantic comedies that this author has written and they are actually comedies. There was nothing funny about this book.
I really enjoyed Starry-Eyed Love! I did not read the first book in the series and this can be read as a stand alone.
I loved the honesty about London's anxiety surrounding her job. It was written really well and reflected many of the feelings I have had in the past. I would also note here that, having not read the first book, I was not a fan of Avery, London's sister. Her behavior is very selfish and made me wonder if I do want to read the first book at all.
London and Jackson are explosive from the start. I wanted more and more of their relationship. When it was good, it was amazing. And then it was not. I may have screamed at my phone when something from Jackson's past was revealed. It was devastating for London and it tore them apart. I've seen other reviews that describe this book as a Cinderella-esque read. I concur. You definitely get that in some scenes.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed it. The narrators brought the story to life for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for sending me an early copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!
This book was super cute, and I mean, who doesn't want their own personal CEO? Especially when he's as charming as Jackson. I think my favorite thing about Jackson was how supportive he was of London. He never once judged her for any of her issues surrounding Spark House or her sisters, and he just constantly wanted to see her succeed. That was super refreshing, especially for a such a successful man.
I loved how real London is too! She really made me see myself in her, even though we are both so different, and I loved that about her. She was easy to relate to, easy to root for, and that made the book so much more enjoyable.
I think the best thing about the book is that even with the CEO and multi-millionaire aspect, it felt very relatable. Especially with Spark House being family-run and just being somewhere that these sisters love and work so hard for. I loved that it was so easy to put myself in their shoes, even though I have no hope of ever meeting a CEO and falling in love with him. It made the whole thing so immersive and I loved that part of it!
If you like romcoms, definitely check this one out!
I loved the fist novel in the series but the second one was just too…sweet? The story and characters were well defined but I still found myself not liking the characters in this novel.
Starry-Eyes Love was a classic cute romance. If you enjoy the cliché cheesy romance with a dash of spice then you will love this novel.
From first glance I loved the cover and have been looking forward to trying out something by Helena Hunting. I enjoyed this audio book.
London Spark is fresh out of a loveless relationship when she's approached at a bar. She turns him down, but he stays on her mind. Cut to a few months later and her family business is on the cusp of a potentially life-changing collaboration when in walks the stranger from that night so long ago. This book is very much about love, family, and finding your own identity when so much of it has been defined by family. This book is #2 in the Spark House series, but it very much stands on its own.
