I run a bachelor fantasy league every year so you can imagine that this book is literally my DREAM and I was thrilled to get an arc for it. Right from the jump I loved Maya’s snarkiness and her pov chapters made me laugh out loud at points. Maya and Skye sneaking around and pretending everything was less serious than it was was cute. I think my only criticism is I wish we got more is their relationship outside of the context of the grown man who still goes by the name Jordy. Most of their relationship was wrapped up in him and even the ending still didn’t give us Maya and Skye without Jordy looming.

I recommend this book if you love messy reality tv and relationships or if you want to see a bunch of people come to the realization that the mediocre white man they are pining over never deserved them in the first place.

this book as taylor swift songs:
maya: mad woman
skye: we are never ever getting back together (taylor’s version)
jordy: mr. perfectly fine (even though I really wanted it to be no body, no crime)

I binged “Never Ever Getting Back Together,” like I binged reality romance shows on Netflix. Which is fitting because its plot revolves around a “royal-adjacent” bachelor revisit relationships with his ex-girlfriends on the latest reality sensation, “Second-Chance Romance.” Jordy Miller’s sister, Sam married the crown prince the of made-up European nation Chalonne and Jordy has people’s attentions like Pippa did when Kate married William. Our heroines Skye and Maya both dated Jordy before the big wedding and he thinks one of them, or one of his other exes may be the one who got away. Or maybe he thinks he can get some more exposure and followers by confirming every aspect of the show would be heavily edited to only show him in the most favorable light.

Maya and Jordy’s relationship ended horribly when he cheated on her with Skye. Skye heard about Maya while dating Jordy of course but was told that their relationship was over. When they find out on the first day, they are bunking together in the mansion with the other exes the drama starts. Together the girls dating Jordy go on single dates, group dates and of course have elimination ceremonies. If you’re following along, I’m an admitted addict of The Bachelor franchise, so this book was right up my alley. It had all the behind-the-scenes moments and was told from both Maya and Skye’s perspectives. Jordy was a villain from the start and was easy to hate throughout. Was winning his heart really a prize Maya or Skye really wanted?

Perhaps ulterior motives convinced the women to join the show, and then there was a twist that made them want to stay. For fans of “American Royals” and reality romance, this one is a must read!

May I join the chorus of those who think that Never Ever getting Back Together is one fun read? Author Sophie Gonzales delivers the goods! Romance has its ups and downs, and Gonzales seems to deliver all sides. That we get into some same-sex romance provides a real interesting view into young love. Poor Jordy. Did he ever know what hit him?
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

Never Ever Getting Back Together, Sophie Gonzales

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Whew! That was fun!

In Never Ever Getting Back Together, Jordy is a a sorta kinda royal who stars in a reality show, Second Chance Romance, with a number of ex hookups and girlfriends. Maya and Skye, who Jordy may or may not have dated at the same time, are placed together as roommates. Neither is going to get back together with Jordy, but they bond together for revenge -- but, in a twist, maybe they find love with one another? Will there be a happily ever after or will they be derailed by attempts to seek out revenge on Jordy?

The LGBTQIA spin in a YA book does well to add diversity to the genre of fun and light, great summer reads!

4.5 Stars
I loved everything about this book so much omg. I was immediately drawn to it because of the title, I mean who doesn't love a Taylor Swift book title? It had me hooked. I loved the feminism in it and the sapphic romance had me yelling. I mean what's better than a rom-com about two girls teaming up to expose the lead guy on live television and they then end up falling for each other. Maya and Skye were such interesting and great characters. The romance was so refreshing and I loved every second of it. Also, the entire concept of this book was amazing, I honestly didn't know if I was going to enjoy it much since I'm not the biggest fan of reality tv, but it completely blew me away and I would recommend this book to anyone in a heartbeat. The one thing I would have wished is if the characters were a bit older. I feel as if it would have made much more sense if they were in their 20s but it was still great. Also, I felt like Skye getting mad at Maya for not rejecting Jordy was a little bit unreasonable, but it’s ok because they got their happy ending anyway and it made the book more interesting.

anyone who knows me probably knows that reality dating shows are absolutely my guilty pleasure. i have done my whole rant about matt james' season too many times to count, and i want everyone to know here and now that i will re-watch fboy island at any time, anywhere. but the vast majority of dating shows are straight for some reason, and i always wondered what all those absolutely stunning women were doing locked up in that mansion for weeks.

thus, to say i love the premise of this book is a bit of an understatement -- for all intents and purposes, i literally want this premise to be my real life. or, alternatively, i desperately want this to happen on the new bachelorette season with rachel and gabby. just imagine: they try to find true love with all of these terrible men, but instead they find each other! absolutely incredible tv.

but to get to the actual point of this review: the actual execution of the book is unfortunately just fine. i never really got why the two main characters were into each other, and no other character really had personality traits aside from the one thing they were introduced as. the plot was fine, if formulaic -- which, to be clear, isn't bad for a romance! i mean, i've re-read [book:The Deal|24920901] too many times to count now, so i can't exactly say too much about formulaic plots. but my lack of attachment to the characters made the plot just a bit more of a slog to get through.

now, did i want to strangle jordy with my bare hands? absolutely. was it intensely gratifying to see a male manipulator get what he deserves? you bet your ass it was. but i just wanted so much more than what this book gave me, and that was disappointing. but hey -- on to the next romance to restore my faith in love.

I just loved this book! Villains, heroines, love and loss and love again! Maya is one of six women invited to be on a reality show starring an ex boyfriend. She was heartbroken by this guy and is hesitant, but she also figures it’s a way to get revenge! Such wonderful strong female characters!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I would give this 3.5 stars. I've really begun to enjoy the "queer storyline set on a TV show" subgenre of contemporary romance, and this was my first time reading a Young Adult novel that fit that description. I thought this was a fun, quick read, and one of few examples in which an enemies-to-lovers storyline works in a contemporary setting. The premise was what first drew me to the novel, and I think that the plot itself was executed relatively well, except for a slightly rushed ending. I also liked that Maya and Skye weren't perfect and immediately likeable.

That being said, I do wish that there was a bit more character development for both the protagonists and the side characters. I'm also not sure how I feel about many of the characters on the show still being teenagers -- I think the setting would have made more sense for an adult novel. Nevertheless, I think this would be an enjoyable read for young adults, and I'd recommend it to those looking for a reality-show-centered sapphic relationship!

Really really enjoyed this book! Thought the characters were a little young for the story line, but loved the Bachelor type feel. The characters developed well and I love how the book ended!

The “reality tv show” trope has quickly risen to the top of my favorite tropes list. This book not only depicted a reality show, but it showed us MCs learning their worth and reevaluating their life choices. Jordy was the perfect villain and I was more than happy to let him remain there. I loved Maya and Skye and really enjoyed watching them grow and watching their journey through all of the craziness they were thrust into. For me the unsung hero of the book was Isaac, and it was so nice to see a producer championing for and supporting his contestants. I loved the camaraderie that eventually came about in this book, and loved watching the women have each other’s backs.

I was given an ARC by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All opinions are my own.

Its John Tucker Must Die meets the Bachelor meets princess diaries. Never Ever Getting Back Together was fun, hilarious, a little teeny bit predictable but wonderful. The epilogue was just enough for me to not feel like I will miss the characters painfully. Enough closure that I don't need a sequel but not so final that I couldn't believe the characters lived on changed by the experience. Super fun read for YA and New Adult realistic romance fans.

Reading this felt like treating myself to a really yummy cocktail or to a whole season of the Bachelor (to clarify—a good season the Bachelor). Fun, sweet, a little crazy, and extremely hard to put down.

I love a reality show romance novel, and boy does this scratch that itch. I hope Sophie Gonzales had fun writing this, because it was a delight to read. Maya and Skye both feel so vivid from the get-go. That said, the book really got going for me once they became allies—though I understand the purpose behind their hostile beginning, it was hard to watch everyone initialing buying into Jordie’s gaslighting of Maya.

Thank you very much to St. Martin’s Press for the early copy. I’d call this a must-read for any fans of The Bachelor or John Tucker Must Die looking for a rom com ❤️

You will not regret reading this book! I laughed out loud at times! I was infuriated at others! I’m bias because I’m a sucker for a good sapphic romance, but safe to say this story line was great! Guy meets girls, breaks up with girls, gaslights girls, invites girls onto a game show where what could he expect other than a serious turn of events unfolds! I waited at the edge of my seat the whole book to see him CRUSHED and the story didn’t disappoint, it just took an unexpected turn! I LOVED where this story went and now I can’t wait to dive into all of Sophie Gonzales’ books!

this was an incredible book friends! I loved the relationship between the main characters and i loved the fast pacing of this book. i absolutely despised jordy and i think the author did an incredible job at making me hate him so much. i definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good reality tv show novel.

When Maya receives a call to appear on a reality dating show featuring her ex-boyfriend, she immediately says no. But, once a plan forms to bring him down on national television, Maya is whisked off to film ‘Second Chance Romance’ with fellow exes. Soon after the filming begins, it’s made clear that Jordy has been scheming to get his exes to start drama, but when Maya and Skye talk things out, there may be more there than a shared annoyance for Jordy.

Sophie Gonzales is quickly becoming one of my favorite Rom-Com authors! Her previous works, and this title included, make me laugh out loud, sometimes cry, and overall make you feel a sense of the warm-and-fuzzies.

‘Never Ever Getting Back Together’ comes out December 6, 2022, so be sure to pre-order now!

I absolutely adored this book! Maya and Skye sparked from the very beginning and while it was frustrating to see the initial miscommunication between the two, it was so rewarding to see them work it out and team up to take Jordy down. All the contestants were fun to read about as well, and I'd totally read a book about Perrie or Kim's tell all! Without spoiling too much, I will say that while the ending was a great one, it definitely was not as drama filled as I had wanted. I know the right choices were made, but I live for the chaos.

I requested this book because I love a story where a group of women form an alliance to get revenge on a toxic man. That alone is enough for me to request the arc because what is more entertaining than two women forming an alliance to take down their toxic ex?

Honestly? I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would. WOW. THIS WAS SO FUCKING FUN. The characters were all hilarious stereotypes, Jordy, the toxic ex, is so fun to hate, and I found myself taking sides and picking favorites just like I do when I watch the Bachelor. This was SO MUCH FUN. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this that much because contemporary romance really isn’t my kind of genre at all but I surprisingly really, really, enjoyed this. The pages just flew by!

First off, Jordy is a piece of shit so the prospect of two slightly unhinged women getting revenge on this asshole was enough to keep me reading. I genuinely was as infuriated with him as Maya is, seeing what a dirtbag he is, yet everyone in the world thinks he is the kindest, most genuine public figure because he is that good at playing everyone. It was infuriating to see how he undeservedly was loved by the media because he’s so good at hiding the fact that he’s a narcissist. I kept reading because I needed to see the REVENGE.

Second, loved the romance between Maya and Skye! Contemporary really isn’t be genre of choice hardly ever, but now I feel like I need to check out Sophie Gonzales’ other books.

Thank you to Netgalley and Wednesday Books for sending me an advanced copy in return for my honest review.
