For readers who love to hate (… or hate to love!) reality dating shows, this book is for YOU!!

This was a fantastic YA read about the behind-the-scenes life of contestants on a reality dating show. It had themes of strong female friendship and following your heart even when it’s the road less traveled. As many reviews state, this book has great bi-representation which was a fun spin on the standard Herero-normative and super straight reality TV shows were used to. I always appreciate authors who put people where they deserve to be even when they’re locked out of those spaces in real life.

I thought this book was quickly paced and very entertaining. Definitely would recommend to fans of YA!

Never Ever Getting Back Together was one of my most awaited books from the moment it got announced. It was a solid book, filled with good writing, well developed characters, and a despicable ex boyfriend.
I liked most of the book, the reality tv storyline was interesting, the relationship between Skye and Maya was really amazing to read, the development of the side characters was great - Perrie is definitely my favorite.
I was however disappointed at the ending of the book. Jordy gets to keep his public facade perfect till the last possible moment, and even when his downfall finally happens the readers aren't even shown the consequences he is facing. The typical "choose between love and revenge" is a good trope, but not one I appreciated in this case.
All in all, I give this book a solid 4/5.

thanks to netgalley for the arc!

I thought I would love this one more. the premise was really interesting (a reality show!), the representation was there, and each of the protagonists had their reasons for feeling the way they did.

around the 20% mark it started to drag on, and the characters felt like caricatures of themselves. the main two became more indistinguishable in voice as the story went on. their relationship had no real build up and connection, being built on bickering and hard to buy into. the vignettes blurred together, personally. I'll say the dialogue had a good humor to it though, and the girls were all generally likable, so it was a nice, light read. just didn't do it for me, unfortunately.

also I hate Jordan. man, that was an unlikeable man. kudos to the author for making him so horrible.

Thank you NetGallery, St. Martin’s Press, and Sophie Gonzales for providing this ARC copy of Never Ever Getting Back Together - in exchange for my full and honest review.

First off - this was my first read by Sophie Gonzales. Her writing is a literal Laugh Out Loud moment! How have I not found her before this?

Second - I am loving the trend of new books coming onto the market featuring unique reality tv! I had no idea this was something I needed in my life before now. “Trash TV” is what I call this in our home, and I was HERE FOR IT!

Third - LGTBQIA+ representation! I love that the author incorporated this inclusive content within this setting. How fun that I had the honor of reading this during pride month!? Maya and Skye were both openly bi-sexual prior to the show, but I love that this was able to be explored. I feel like there aren’t enough books out on the market that do so - and Sophie was daring enough to go there.

Now to the good stuff…

The character development for this story was incredible. I love Maya and Skye - and their steamy passion! There were some amazing plot twists that had me reeling! This wasn’t something I was honestly expecting, but I am oh so glad I was able to get my hands on this one!

The overall pace of this book was good, I was able to devour this in two days. I was rooting for Maya and Skye the whole time! This tv show plot had this reader turning the page dying to find out what happened next.

I received an arc of this book and I loved every second of it!
First of all, gotta love the queer representation. Our two main characters are bisexual women and the book features a gay side character.
Second, THE TROPES. I’m always here for a good revenge trope and an enemies to lovers trope.

4.5 stars

This has so many fun elements: a reality dating show, a villain we love to hate, and a sweet sapphic romance tie it all together. I've been a fan of Gonzales for a while and was ecstatic to get an early copy of her new book. I dove into this and didn't want to stop, work who? I was completely enthralled by this and rooting for the girls to get their revenge against a truly terrible ex boyfriend, while also finding their own happily ever after.

Maya is brave, protective, and not about to let Jordy ruin her life again. I loved that she was on to Jordy the whole time and found him so ridiculous and pretentious. Skye may keep her heart behind a wall, but she also wants to give people the benefit of the doubt and I admire that optimism. The girls fit together so well and together became a great team to take the enemy down. Their chemistry was cute and I liked seeing it build over the story.

Jordy is the worst and at times it was funny how out of touch he was with reality and the girls. It was fun rooting for him to fail and I'm a bit bummed that no one ever punched him in the face. A well written bad guy can bring a story together and Jordy was a pretty good antagonist.

This was a pleasure to read and sure to be a hit when it releases!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Wednesday books for the copy

If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if the Bachelor combined LGBT women and their horrible ex trying to win them back, Sophie has the answer here that it’s a delightful read. Like all of her books she creates authentic characters here that you get to see their growth and feel their struggles over the course of the book. You also get a look at the behind the scenes of filming reality TV and some of the implications of becoming famous. The antagonist will definitely remind some people of bad, manipulative ex’s they may have had, so it’s cathartic getting to see the women team up against him. The book did get off to a bit of a slow start, I think if the characters were aged up slightly I would’ve been invested more from the beginning. But by the end I was hooked and ready to see if Maya and Skye could get their happy ending.

This was such a cute and fun fast read! Loved all the characters except Jordy ugh did he annoy me. Loved all the different personalities of the girls. I have to say Isaac was my favorite character. This book definitely gives me The Bachelor/ The Challenge vibes. I definitely give it a solid 4 stars . This book makes you think … Would I want to date my ex again ??? NEVER EVER !! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read it .

Such a fun read! I didn't want to put it down and finished it in one day. I laughed multiple times throughout the book and loved Maya and Skye.

Not my favorite SG book, but still really good! The plot went very quickly, and I think it would have benefited from it being less quick. Also, fuck Jordy. Any grown man who goes by Jordy in public is a red flag, and this guy is the worst of the worst.

Never Ever Getting Back Together by Sophie Gonzalez is exactly like The Bachelor but with a related-to-royalty guy as the bachelor and his ex-girlfriends as the contestants. But make it sapphic, full of revenge, and feature a group of girls that will form a life-long friendship.

Years before the book starts, Maya and Jordy were dating long-distance until Maya learns that Jordy was cheating on her with Skye and that Skye, not only knew about Maya, but kept dating Jordy. When the book starts, Maya receives a phone call from a a new tv show called Second Chance Romance and finds out that Jordy asked the producers to get Maya on the show. Maya agrees to join the show, despite her hatred of her ex Jordy, for the chance to embarrass him during the finale episode. Things get off on a bad start for Maya when she comes face to face with Skye and finds out they will be roommates while on the show. Little does Maya know, but she’s going to get a lot more out of this second chance that just revenge on Jordy’s cheating ass.

This was the first book I’ve read from Sophie Gonzalez and I’m glad it was. Never Ever Getting Back Together was a very cute and quick read that had me squealing from happiness. Whether it was the friendship forming between the girls, unfiltered Maya after way too many shots, or the sass from the side characters, this book is worth the read. It is a slow burn romance between two of Jordy’s ex-girlfriends with elements of found family, tension of all kinds, and a just a hint of backstabbery (so not a word but you know what I mean).

If you love to read books about girls who get together and make a fool of their gaslighting, shit-talking, complete douchebag ex-boyfriend, then I highly recommend reading Never Ever Getting Back Together.

This was a sweet, eminently readable novel that was much more about friendship than it was about romance. The romance itself was satisfying (although all of the characters seemed far too young to be making such big pronouncements of long-term love ... but that response is clearly about my being middle-aged; I'm sure my high school students would disagree!). But what I found even more satisfying was the way that the young women contestants found their way into mutual support instead of competing for a man's affection as they were supposed to be doing. I couldn't always remember which woman was which, but I honestly have that same problem with reality TV shows. (And I did love the way that the novel made fun of reality TV by, among other things, naming other leading shows, such as Nerds in the Jungle, Dating Without Caffeine, and Cooking Under Constant Criticism.)

This will be a good addition to any high school library.

I never got bored and enjoyed most of the side characters!! Jordy, the ex, was an excellently crafted villain! He was so easy to hate and cringe at. Honestly he was the worst, which made the ending all the more satisfying.

To get on a slightly deeper level, you have these 18 year old girls who are on this cusp, deciding who they want to be and how they want to live their lives, now that they can. We see how family plays a role in adding pressure to have things figured out so early. We see how messy life can get when you put your heart out on the line. These characters are relatable and feel really fleshed out because when you're 18 nothing is cut and dry or set in stone. And clearly these characters mean A LOT to me.

With that said go preorder this book because it is worth every penny!!! Thank you Netgalley and Wednesday Books for the eARC!!! Waiting for December to get my physical copy will be torture.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book. This book reminded me of the show Bachelor instead with a twist. It is about how these girls are going on a dating show with their ex-boyfriend. I really hated the ex-boyfriend. He is such a jerk. I absolutely loved the drama unfolding of everyone in the book. There is a representation of two girls being bi. The two girls fall in love with them spending weeks together in the mansion.

👍🏼 Happy Pride! a cute enemies to lovers YA LGBTQ romance

Right so this story is cute, but honestly made me feel old. For the record I am 25 so not thaaat old. But this book is about 18 year old girls who just finished high school and I found the petty drama a bit too much, however I imagine younger readers can really relate.

But enough about me, here’s the story:

Nothing is worse than having a semi-famous ex-boyfriend. Except an ex-boyfriend who is self-absorbed enough to ask you to join his other exes in a second chance romance reality TV show.

When Maya gets the call from a producer about this new show, she immediately hangs up. After realizing that her ex, Jordy, was cheating on her, she promptly dumped him. Unfortunately, Jordy is the hot younger brother of the newly married princess of a small European country and the world seems to love him and believe his “innocent” side of the story.

Maya finally agrees to do the show, not to reconnect with Jordy, but to expose his serious character flaws for the world to finally see. Too bad that means meeting Skye, the girl Jordy cheated on her with. Skye wants to win and honestly connect with the sweet boy who cracked open her steely heart before moving halfway around the world and disappearing. Maya wants to win so that she can reject Jordy in the finale and finally get her revenge.

It turns out that the best revenge is to not only reject Jordy, but fall in love with another person entirely during the filming of the show.

My only significant issue with this book is that every time I read the title, Taylor Swift starts playing in my head, and let's be real that's not even an issue. Never Ever Getting Back Together was an amazing sapphic novel full of just-enough twists. In the beginning, I wasn't the biggest fan of Maya, however she grew on me extremely quickly. I was instantly a big of fan of Skye. Both protagonists grew substantially throughout the book, and the plot aided them in it.

On the plot, I am not the biggest fan of reality tv shows however this was such an interesting premise that it drew me in. I would've liked to see more development of the other women on the show alongside Maya and Skye. Perrie was a great character who I adored, however as soon as we got close to a lot of the women they were kicked off the show. This was done to highlight how much of an a*hole Jordy was, however some of those women felt very one-dimensional and surface level.

Pacing-wise, the book felt good. I really enjoyed the enemies to allies to lovers. The enemies bit was a little frustrating due to the miscommunication, however it was very realistic of how communication gets muddled during situations like these. The allies bit was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the dramatic kayak scene and the rock climbing scene. I would've liked a little more pining, as them getting together sort of snuck up on the reader. Obviously I knew it was sapphic and that they were going to end up together, but if I didn't, I probably wouldn't have suspected it. I did appreciate how the women both being bi wasn't a significant plot point. There was no coming out, both women were just merely feeling to see if the other also was bi. The biphobia experienced was very realistic and added another layer to hate Jordy through.

TLDR; very cute sapphic rom-com with two women taking down their mutual ex on a reality tv dating show and falling for each other along the way.

I was in a reading slump for a while but this book took me right out of it. I was immediately drawn to it because the title reminded me of taylor swift, so I read the synopsis and I found out two girls get revenge on cheating, lying, racist, homophobic, disgusting, guy with a fake british accent and I mean this is perfect for pride month so I read it and it’s of course a five star read:) I 100% recommended reading this the second it gets released!!
