I enjoy the Love Inspired Suspense books because the romance is always clean. Our main character, Cecile, is investigating a string of murders with her boss, Josh. Josh has a past that is following him around and hampers his desire for Cecile. Cecile also has an unresolved case from the past haunting her. This is a very fast paced book with lots of action. The romantic tension between the characters sizzled!
Deputy Cecile Richardson vows to brings a serial killer to justice, making her the killer's next target.
Cecile enters a deadly game with a killer, she relies on Sheriff Josh Avery to help her bring him to justice in this fast paced adventure. A page turning read, that kept me on my toes.
An entertaining and easy to get into read, plenty of suspense. A little more intense than normal, and a heavier on the suspense side.
Overall, a clean and suspenseful read, with a will they or won't they romance, as they pursue a serial killer.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I enjoyed this one, but is wasn't one of the more remarkable LIS titles IMO. A quick read and good story, but a bit predictable and I didn't end up liking the characters enough to really say this one stands out.
Texas Buried Secrets by Virginia Vaughan is the sixth and final book in her Cowboy Lawmen Love Inspired Suspense series.
Cecile Richardson is the best investigative deputy in the area, so she is lead on a case involving re-buried bones. Work is complicated, though, because of the romantic feelings arching between her and her boss, Sheriff Josh Avery.
I haven’t read the previous books in the series and from what I gather, we would understand their history a bit better since the Avery family are the Cowboy Lawmen the series is about. However, I still enjoyed the story! Trouble kept after Cecile and it never gave away the bad guy until the very end.
If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is a great choice!

A fast paced short suspense novel that keeps you are the edge your seat from start to finish. Even though these love inspired suspense tend to be predictable I still enjoy reading them
This is book six in the Cowboy Lawmen series, however I feel it is a sand alone, as I have not read any of the previous books and I had no problem keeping up. I do feel however that I missed a lot of history of the Avery family. I will go back and read the others from this series.
Deputy Cecile Richardson and Sheriff Josh Avery must try to find a serial killer all while staying one step ahead of him and trying to work around their relationship.
I was given a copy of this novel for my honest opinion.
Cecile is a deputy working on putting a serial killer behind bars and manages to get make herself a target. Josh is the sheriff looking to protect her long enough to catch the killer.
This was a pretty good read. I pretty much devoured it in one sitting, good thing I have nothing but time this summer. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and root for them for find the killer as well as finding love with eachother. I loved that there was so much going on with this book it was hard to put it down. I liked wondering when the person would strike next or when they would come across another body. There was just so much to enjoy about this book and I highly recommend you mystery lovers to check this book out.
Texas Buried Secrets by Virginia Vaughan takes readers on a wild Texas ride. Deputy Cecile Richardson is burdened with solving a string of murders that look to be related. But the serial killer sets his site on Cecile, and Sherriff Josh Avery is concerned for Cecile’s safety.
I love the complexity of the plot. Cecile struggles with that one case she never solved involving the disappearance of her friend. Josh is still dealing with the death of his wife and the suspicion that he was somehow involved with her death. The two team up to stop a killer, solve two cold cases, and try to stay alive. The romantic sparks turn into flames as Josh tries to protect Cecile.
I highly recommend this story for readers that like complex plots, cold cases and a healthy dose of suspense and action!
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
I loved that this is a fast paced story full of romance and suspense. This is the last book in a series but you are ok if you do not read the others first. I plan to read the rest because this one was so good. Cecile and Josh are great as friends and I knew they would make a great couple. I loved that I did not know how this would be solved until the end. I received a copy of this book from Love Inspired for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the 6st book in the Cowboy Lawmen series. I liked the characters, but they are not characters that jump off the pages. I liked the storyline, but I did not love the last little bit of this book. The beginning was so great, but the story did not keep me pulled into it. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Love Inspired Suspense) or author (Virginia Vaughan) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Virginia Vaughan has written another excellent romantic suspense novel. The main characters In Texas Buried Secrets are Cecile and Josh. The deputy and the sheriff are dedicated to and good at their jobs. Both characters are easy to like, and as I learned their backgrounds, their actions became easy to understand. There is a lot of action and suspense in this well-written story. Phrases like "nail-biting" and "edge of your seat" definitely describe this book. The plot has twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the faith element that's lightly sprinkled through the book.
I would highly recommend this to readers of clean romantic suspense and to readers of Christian romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this exciting story.
Texas Buried Secrets is written by Virginia Vaughn. This is a Love Inspired Suspense book. This is the sixth book in the Cowboy Lawman series. I haven’t read them all and had no problem following the story.
The action starts off as soon as you start reading and doesn’t let up through the whole story. Sherriff Josh Avery has a big mess on his hands. Another body has been found with very similar findings as other women they’ve found over the last few years. Deputy Cecile Richardson knows that they need to figure out who is behind this soon.
Josh carries a dark cloud over his head. His wife Haley was murdered and it was never solved. Some in the town think he may have done it. He knows that while that hangs over his head he can’t ever get involved with anyone else. Even Cecile. Who he has had feelings for. Both of them are thrust into the investigation of murdered women and soon find out that neighboring counties have unsolved cases that match them. Now it appears that the killer has their sites set on Cecile.
I loved all the action in this book. This was a close knit town and both main characters are respected. Cecile in her off time investigates the disappearance of her best friend from 10 years ago, Erica. Erica was never found and the case is cold.
The author did a great job in writing this story. I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed. The author also did a great job writing in the reminder that God hears all. He cares deeply for us and wants to help us heal.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley allowing me to read a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.
Friends to lovers and a dark murder mystery.
A romantic mystery with a lot of pining. This gives off heavy Criminal Minds and NCIS vibes, mainly with the flow between character perspectives and the pacing of the plot.
Deputy Cecile is a strong female protagonist and her character maintains that strength throughout the story. She is very headstrong, in her actions and while she is put in danger several times, she still carries that strong presence.
Sheriff Josh Avery is very much the "tortured by his past" character who maintains that the ghosts of his past will keep him from his happily ever after. While I am not normally a fan of this style of character, the way his reasoning is explained through his backstory and his perspective makes his character less of a moody broody woe-is-me styled character and highlights the importance of his actions.
There are several points in the story where "just a feeling" is used to explain why characters act a specific way, and while in any romance story I love the gut feeling connection between two characters, I found that this was done a few too many times for it to flow well. There's also a point where a character repeats a sentence and the instance had me stopping and feeling a sense of deja vu.
Overall, a good novel if you are a fan of The Chestnut Man, or Criminal Minds. I enjoyed the story and loved the strength presented in each character.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
'Chills rushed through her along with the overwhelming sensation of being watched.'
Virginia Vaughan wraps up her Cowboy Lawmen series with the best in the series! My opinion. I finished in a day, couldn't put it down. A creep serial killer is terrorizing a community and several counties join together to form a task force to take him out. But he's always one step ahead of them. And now he has set his sights on Cecile Richardson, a deputy. Can they stop him before he takes her out? Thrilling and action packed, this one will tick all the boxes for inspirational suspense fans. Well done!
My thanks to Love Inspired for a copy of this book via the Net Galley platform. The opinion here is my own.
I have to say I really did not like this book. The idea was great, and I was excited about a murder mystery with a strong female lead. Unfortunately, the characters really ruined the book for me. Cecile is a sought after law enforcement agent, was chosen by other towns to lead the hunt for a serial killer, and yet she is treated by her boss, and hopeful love interest, as being incompetent time and again. The characters were flat and not well developed. Despite some nice plot points, the development in between was lacking.
"Texas Buried Secrets" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. It's the sixth in a series, but it works as a standalone. Josh and Cecile respected each other's abilities and got along well. Josh acknowledged in word and deed that she was an excellent investigator and able to take care of herself. And she was. But as her injuries added up and slowed her down, she needed some help to survive the repeated attacks. The mystery was clue-based. Cecile asked questions and followed up on leads. Whodunit wasn't obvious so it was realistic that super-investigator Cecile didn't pick up on it sooner.
Josh's wife's murder has remained unsolved, and a reporter has implied that Josh got away with murder. Though several characters pointed out that since he kept getting elected sheriff, obviously few believed that accusation, he's refused to date Cecile because he doesn't what to smear her reputation with his. At the end, he said something deliberately hurtful to make Cecile move away to protect her reputation. Cecile and her dad realized the killer was still out there. I'm like, "you just left her emotionally hurting, physically injured, and on her own. That isn't protecting her." He did soon realize this, but if I'd been Cecile, this would have been an issue needing forgiveness. Instead, she's hard on herself. I'm willing to accept this as how complex, messed-up people can act, but it baffled me that this was treated as such a non-issue.
There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable romantic suspense.
