Sigh*

Another wasted potential.

In my opinion, this could have been good if the construction of the plot, establishment of conflict, and characterization have been done well.

1. There's no hesitation in Arya's action. She trusts easily for someone who's trained for 20 years for the job and to serve the queen's cause. Like???? It's stupid.

2. Everything just went so easy. No struggle.

3. The chemistry, the pairing, was poorly executed.

I didn't enjoy it. Utterly disappointed.

This book was super fast, which I disliked because I would’ve loved more worldbuilding, but other than that the characters were amazing. I loved Arya, she was an enjoyable fmc and although she had small quirks by the end of this book she turned out okay. Azriel was definitely my favourite character in this book, I mean who doesn’t love a man with wings!

I really enjoyed this book- the fantasy felt really accessible and the main character, Arya, was likeable as the confident and strong female character. My only downside was the pace was quite fast, especially when it came to the romance. It did make it an easy quick read though!

Excellent fantasy novel with a bit of romance thrown in. I really enjoyed reading this book. It did remind me of another fantasy series but on its own I think it's quite good and I look forward to the other books.

This book kept me up reading past my bedtime on multiple occasions! The book starts off with Arya training for the role of a runner— someone who runs and delivers messages on behalf of the Queen. It’s apparent that the outside world is dangerous, with many runners perishing from Vampyre attacks in the wastelands of Valdihr in short succession. In fact, Arya is still mourning the loss of her close friend.. who perished on their very first run.

After killing someone during a test, Arya is promoted to runner and is sent on her first mission. The majority of the trip goes well, until she is spotted by a Vampyre, and twists her ankle… and everything expected takes a turn.

Without giving away spoilers, Arya begins to question everything she’s been told. She struggles to distinguish between truth and lie, enemy and ally, all while learning about her own strengths/abilities…. as well as love and betrayal.

If you’re a fan of romantic fantasy, and dystopian worlds, you’ll love this read. It definitely gave me Hunger Games and Maze Runner vibes at times. I really can’t wait to read book two, and I would love to see this book in a hardback edition someday.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I had no idea what to expect from this story, but it was fantastic! I really loved this badass main character and her love. The description of love was spot on! I really enjoyed this read and will be recommending it!

It's the world building, for me. The fast paced plot, for me. The FMC.... a strong willed, brave female with a clear goal? SAY LESS. The only criticism I have for this book is that I wish it was longer. And that's not to say it felt rushed, I just really didn't want to say goodbye to this world and characters! I know we shouldn't judge books by their covers, but this one is absolutely stunning! I definitely will be adding a physical copy to my collection!

10 STARS! A different world, evil queen, exciting adventure - and yes, winged watchers and human connection. It's all here. One of the best fantasy adventures I've read in a while - a true winner all the way!

A Night of Wings and Starlight is the first book that I have read by Alexis L. Menard and unfortunately it will be the last. It was just too confusing and a little different than what I was expecting. It just wasn’t developed enough to where it was easy to follow. It definitely had the potential to be a good fantasy romance, but unfortunately it missed the mark, so for that reason I would not recommend this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an eARC version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a quick and easy read. It is only short as its under 300 pages so its definitely a good book to read if you want to get through something quickly, especially as it is written in an easy to understand way.

I enjoyed the world building of this book, I liked the lore that was going on and was interested and happy that the author sprinkled it in occasionally rather than just having big blocks of text at the very beginning.

I don't think the book was "bad" so do not be discouraged by my 3 star rating, I just think it simply wasn't for me! I felt like Azriel's and Arya's relationship was a bit too instalove for me and I would have preferred their relationship to be further developed.

I would recommend this book to those who want a quick fantasy read!

Can safely say I devoured this book! I mean who doesn't love a fast paced fantasy with such a head strong main character as Ayra and unreal world building?! Would recommend to any fantasy lover ours there

For quite some time I was looking for a fantasy read that would keep my internet while reading a whole book, so when his cover and blurb spoke to my fantasy lover side I knew I must give it a try! And you know what - I was not disappointed by this book!
Our heroine starts right away as a strong girl with one aim - to become Chosen, as only this position will allow her to get free from the world around her full of dangers and nothing good can come out of it. Arya wants to be a runner, but not every person can be a good fill for such a position. One day she will get a chance in doing what she dreamed of... but what if your whole life will change in a few hours, and nothing you knew would make sense anymore? A shattered world of a girl, that will have to find a way to survive...
This story has a fair share of romance and adventure, which gives it a good drive in each part so that we would not et bred any time. When faced with the unknown she gives hesitant and begins to think and even after her years of training chooses her own - this is something I greatly appreciate. Arya's character is one of the most real ones I read recently about.
Ms. Menard has a really good visual style of writing har captivates the reader from the very beginning and sinks in further with each page. The pace allows the reader to follow, but it's not too boring, a space that speeds up in proper places. I can not omit his par but here we have an insta love story which surprisingly did not annoy me - a well-written one! I hope the next books in the Eternal Night series will be even better!

***3.0 Stars***

Overall,
I wanted to really like this book, I liked Arya the main character, I liked Azrael, the love interest, the overall story was interesting but there was something lacking. I think this book would have benefited from being about 100 pages longer. There were parts of the book where things would happen or a character would say something as if they were extremely familiar with the other person or the situation and I would have to go back and see if I missed something. I didn’t. This book is fast paced with things happening quickly. Arya could have been better if she was fleshed out just a bit more, her motivations did not feel entirely earned. Not that they didn’t make sense but from what we were shown on the page and from what she said there just wasn’t that much emotion behind it. Her relationship with Azrael was very insta-love and familiar very quickly which was honestly confusing at first.
In addition, for needing to be a bit longer to flesh out the characters I would also say that there are aspects of this book which feel heavily borrowed from other big-name series in the fantasy realm. It honestly felt like a big mix between a SJM / JLM /GRRM stories, which at times made the book feel very inauthentic.

Cover,
Its fine. It is very basic and pretty common for this genre currently.

Recommendations
There are better books in this genre out there. I think this author has a lot of potential, parts of her writing were really beautiful and I am still interested in what she does next.

Breaking the curse will risk her heart, her life, and the future she never thought possible.

Before Arya was Chosen, she knew nothing of what lay waiting in the eternal night—certainly not alluring yet arrogant winged Watchers, a cursed queen, nor the possibility that she could be more than a runner, carrying messages through the vampyre-infested wastelands of Valdihr.

But the biggest surprise waiting in the dark is the brazen Watcher who sparks her heart and calls her a Huntress.

A hundred years shrouded in darkness and Arya is the only one who can finally bring back the dawn. With a blessing that marks her for death and an infuriatingly tantalizing man at her side, Arya must embrace her calling and her courage in order to face the danger lurking in the shadows. Because the night holds more than just secrets, and the monsters are closer than she realizes.

Interesting story that tells of good, evil, and those convinced to fight in the name of either. The main character seems to have a very naive view of her world, its all about pleasing her queen. She has only one friend, and when she loses him she figures she has only one path left, to be chosen by the queen. Once that happens and she gets her first assignment, she leaves the mountain that is all she knows and discovers that the world is not what it seems. The story was unique and well told. I would recommend it to others who like the science fiction/fantasy genre.

I was quite surprised by this book because I did not expect at all this kind of fantasy universe. Here we follow the story of Arya, who lives in a world where the gods have interrupted the course of the sun, the night being permanent. Arya since her childhood is locked in a mountain where she trains to be a runner in the service of her queen, a very heavy training because the world is full of monsters thirsting for blood. But on her first mission, all her beliefs will be questioned.
The book takes a little time before the story actually begins, but after the story is very rhythmic which I enjoyed. The romance is very cute but too fast for my taste although I really liked our watcher that you will meet :D . The end left me a little hungry, I do not see too much on what the next one will focus on so I look forward to the summary of the future book

Thank you so much Netgalley for the advanced copy!

The intro was absolutely dope! Just after one page, I knew I was going to love whatever the book has to offer. It reminded me of Katniss from 'The Hunger Games' and Thomas from 'The Maze Runner'. The world building was magical in a literal sense. There are winged creatures, also known as Watchers and blood thirsty vampyres. Our protagonist, Arya is the kind of character I love, who's brave but also has plenty of weaknesses and knows when to rely on others. Her banters with Azriel were highly entertaining. Though I admire Azriel's handsomeness and humour, what I admire more is how caring he is and how he tends to Arya's every need. Who doesn't desire a man like that? It was fast paced and took no more than 3 hours to finish. However, I am going to deduct one star because there were several things I didn't like. First of all, I wish the book was longer. The ending was so sudden that I was shocked. The final fight deserved more screen time/ reading time. Secondly, considering how realistic and cautious Arya is, it was very unrealistic how quickly she fell for Azriel. I mean cute or not, she should have at least wait for 25 pages before giving her heart to a suspicious creature. Thirdly, there's a plot twist in the end which I knew was coming, it was predictable and I couldn't like it at all. That's it. No more complains. The rest was pretty good. I really really hope you will pick it up and love it. Personally, I can't wait to discover what do Arya and Azriel do next. It is the first book of a series, so there will be more book to dive into. The second book is coming later this year. Hopefully, I will get to read that too!

a fast paced fantasy romance! 3.5-4 stars for me.

I went into the story pretty blind outside of the premise which sounded really intriguing. The story gets rolling very quickly with some cool world building. Our MFC is very headstrong and driven, knowing exactly what she wants despite having her entire world rocked on its access. Enter our MMC, oh yes he is WINGED. How can you not like him? I enjoy their banter and we get some sexy steam from them as well. There's not much slow burn with these two, following more of an insta-love trope , just FYI. I think the villain had a lot of potential but I wish we got to see more of her and learn a little bit more of her background. My one critique is that the story takes place over the span of about a week, so we don't get much depth into our MFC history in the mountain or Azreal's millennia life span either. Adding that with the 3rd person POV, i didn't connect with the characters as much as I would want to.
Overall, I think Alexis has a ton of potential with her writing and I would definitely pick up the next book in the series!
