This book was very predictable. You could make a guess early on for how you think it will end, and you'd probably be right. It was still an entertaining read, nonetheless.

I thought the plot of the story was very relevant because of the Johnny Depp trial that is going on right now, reminding everyone that maybe we have to look into evidence to see who is really being abused.
Unfortunately, I found this book to be incredibly predictable and even redundant, especially the epilogue. It was not very fast paced and the characters did not feel developed to a point where I really cared about any of them.
I did get this as an audiobook, and I liked the narrator. No complaints there, I was just disappointed in the story itself.

The Victim is a domestic thriller with a slightly different take - we know almost immediately that abused wife, Caron, kills her husband Bill. She confesses to the murder, but also has bruises and injuries which indicate not all was happy among the couple. The story is a retelling of the marriage through diary entries and the reader is left guessing whether the police will consider her a murderer or a victim.
Since much of The Victim is told to us through diary entries, it's important that the reader understand trigger warnings are throughout this book - violence, punches, cigarette burns, mental abuse - this one may be a hard read for some, which, to the author's credit, really demonstrates the cruelty in this relationship.
I'm a big fan of domestic thrillers, and a huge fan of audio books. Kudos to narrator Hannah Curtis who has a melodic English accent and is easily able to voice not only the main character as a suffering housewife, but the interesting detectives who are integral to this tale. A wide range of narrator skills make this one a fast listen.
Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media and Gillian Jackson for allowing me to listen to the audio book in advance of its release on May 10th.

This book surprised me in so many ways. I read a lot of thrillers so it’s pretty hard to shock or stump me. This book had me hooked from the beginning and just when i though i knew what was happening boom it wasn’t it. I thought the main character was solid. She did some thing that were questionable(obviously). The rest of the characters I thought were essential to the story and couldn’t imagine the book without them. I highly recommend this if you are looking for something different.

This book was insane, in a great way! I was hooked from chapter one and couldn’t stop listening. I can’t wait to hopefully add a physical copy to my collection soon!

We know right off that the main character admitted to killing someone. She called the police and the investigation begins. Was this murder, planned, or self-defense? As character witnesses of the accused are interviewed there are mixed opinions.

She claims abuse and the plot is pretty strait forward. From cigarette burns, to bruising, you have to believe her don’t you? You will have to read to see if she committed the murder or if it was someone else!

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for letting me listen to this Audiobook arc.
This was interesting. I liked the narrator a lot and the story was good. I will say that it was all very predictable. Because of how predictable it was, the entertainment factor decreased heavily and I wouldn't say that there was anything necessarily distinctive about it when you compare this book to other mysteries/thrillers. The plot twists and big reveals were anticlimactic because you see them coming right from the beginning.
I am left with very neutral feelings. There is nothing I specifically disliked about the book. It was a fine read.
