I thought this was a cute book about books, friendship, and the banned book selling that takes place in one small town bookstore. I really thought this book was adorable and enjoyed my time with it. These were all of the vibes I was hoping for from this book and would highly recommend it!
I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it was set in a small town bookstore and that it was kind of quirky. The character development was good and I liked that Maggie came into her own. I did feel that one person having control of pretty much the whole town was a bit of a stretch. But overall I would recommend it. It was a fun read.
Thank you to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Landmark for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from SOURCEBOOKS Landmark and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Light, easy read with interesting characters. I had a difficult time getting fully invested.
I had really high hopes for this one because it’s about a bookshop, which we all love, but it just didn’t do it for me. I still recommend, there just wasn’t a wow factor.
The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks
by Shauna Robinson is a great contemporary fiction that has a great plot, wonderful character cast, and is all about books!!
I really enjoyed this book. Maggie is a great main character, and I loved her place in this unique storyline. Her ideas and the way she tries to implement them for the greater good, but yet learns a lot about herself and the world around her in the process, is a great concept.
I liked some of the minor threads associated (ie romance and mystery), and I really enjoyed the “joining forces” and “coming together” of the members of the community within the narrative. We all have differences of opinion, but it is how we treat others and how we work together for the greater common good that helps makes it a better place to live.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Sourcebooks Landmark for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 11/1/22.
A fun read about Maggie, who fills in at a bookshop that has very strict rules about what books it can sell. She decides to hold some secret fundraisers and tries to get the bookshop to make money enough to survive. There is romance in the book but it is not cheesy. Characters are engaging and I loved it. I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. I highly recommend reading this one!
I really enjoyed this story of a woman who thought she had to find a path in life that everyone around her approved of or valued even if she did not and the frustration and self-doubt that resulted from her thinking this way. It was a great story about the power of community to uplift someone who is in doubt as well as the power of reading to bring people together. Also liked the story line about Bell and the fallacy of an author cult in favor of anything outside the parameters deifying that author and how misguided and dangerous investing all ones resources in that line of thinking and acting can be. Would definitely recommend this as an enjoyable read on a variety of levels.
