I went into this expecting more of a dark romance vibe, but did not feel like the synopsis really captured what it was about. It started off with a steamy scene between them but then fizzled out. I couldn’t particularly feel the connection between the two main characters, I definitely think there could’ve been much more description and depth into their relationship.
I did not know this was a sequel, so I think if I had read the first I would’ve been more into it. The plot was fine, it moved fast but lacked depth and character development. I haven’t read much urban fantasy which could be why it wasn’t extra enjoyable, but I wouldn’t say this book has encouraged me to read any more.
Thank you to net galley for the arc of this book.
was really excited to get into this book because i loved the first one, as soon as i started reading i couldn’t put it down. the character development was really well written and the plot was fast paced which i enjoyed as well
Ended up DNF’ing this one. Just couldn’t get into it like I thought I would be able to. Loved the cover and title, wasn’t a huge fan of the characters.
I loved the sound of this book, but after receiving the copy I realised it’s the second one in a series 🙈 after getting my hands on the first one I have a tried and tried and TRIED to read it and just can’t get in to it!
If you’ve read the first one, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one, but from what I read of this you would benefit from reading the first one before hand.
I, however, can just not get through it. I’ve found the pacing slow and the main character dull so unfortunately can’t continue with this series at the moment.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
A great continuation of the series and I can't wait to read the next one.
I must admit I found this story much more interesting generally but was a little disappointed as there seemed to be slightly less plot and mostly covered the relationship. Overall though a great and steamy fantasy romance!
I tried hard to slog through this one, but it just wasn’t for me. Somehow reminded me strongly of Laurell K Hamilton’s recent writing, and not in a good way. Sex is a frequent topic in this one, which I’m not at all averse to, as long as it makes things better, rather than worse-sadly, not the case here.
2/5 ⭐️⭐️ for effort, because it’s a hell of an achievement writing a book.
Thanks to the writer and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions are my own,
I loved it! Definitely captured my interest in the first book and then this one blew me away. I loved the characters and the fantastical setting. It was absolutely wonderful. I can't wait for more.
Be aware this is a book 2 in the series and I HIGHLY recommend that you read it in order, as I did not and could not connect with the book at all. I had not seen the note when I first started reading as this would mean I would not read it, but I finish all books I start.
I expected a magical, urban fantasy story about a girl that was a human but now she's a fae - you see the potential here and her love interest in a much older fae. Characters were not having any development in this story, they started flat and finished flat - dual POV (point of view) did not help at all, as they are supposedly in love with a relationship growing well, but I felt nothing, no sparks, no chemistry here. Casek (main hero) is a fae, but to be honest I did not feel it in this story he seemed like a normal man to me without knowing that from some dialogue I would not get that. So unfortunately Ashely was also the same - a forgettable character with traits that has every average girl met on our walks to give an example. I don't know why she was the main female lead here, s I could not feel her at all, which is sad...
Hmmm... I would love to recommend this story, but unfortunately, I can't as I didn't care for the plot, for characters anything if I'm being honest. Venom & Vice had the potential to be a great story as the ingredients are there, but something in the middle did not work and left me utterly disappointed in this read of mine.
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC
I really loved Curse and Craving, Ioved the story building at the beginning, the plot twists, and all the folklore included in the story. Venom & Vice is a continuation of the story but following a different character. It’s also quite a bit shorter, much heavier on the smut, and much lighter on the plot.
I still liked the book but I preferred the first of the series.
I thought that this story was really well developed.
It was a great story that was romantic, sexy and had some brilliant supernatural adventures!
It had an exciting story line and I found it a real pager turner.
I was completely hooked by the story and found it a thoroughly enjoyable read
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!
I didn’t get a chance to read the first book before I took on this one. I didn’t realize it was the second in a series until they started talking about past experiences when I knew I had skipped a book. However, that didn’t stop me from enjoying this book at all. This book was its own story having moved forward from the previous books issues with no problems. Nothing terribly unclear from skipping one book.
I love me an all consuming broody Fae if I do say so myself. I also really enjoy protagonists like Ashley; funny, smart ass, badass, etc.
There was a good story in this book with a plot twist I did NOT see coming that’s for sure. Definitely worth the read.
A beautifully written book. Really enjoyed reading this. Thanks to publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read
This book was ok. I found myself reaching for other books though. I don't think I would pick this up and I am sad to say that. I just didn't click with the book that well. However, it was well written and had great plot. This book just wasn't for me.
This book sucked me in just like the last - the plot was great and I love how the characters followed on into this book from the first! I do feel this was a quicker read than previously, but this didn't effect the amount of action. Although, like in the first book there were some scenes that I don't think were necessary and more a filler in the story.
The romance and spice were well written. But the angst of Lochlan and Becca's story was missing, whether this was because we already knew they slept together in the first book, I'm unsure. But I did miss that.
I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment in the series! I've got a feeling there'll be no end of angst in that one and the mystery of her druid family will hopefully have some light shed upon it.
Enjoying this author's work and will continue to read more.
What a great sequel in this series! I loved Ashley and found that I connected to her so much more as a main character. She is extremely strong, but also works through some heavy emotions. Similar to Curse & Craving, I found myself fascinated with the world that Jill Ramsower created. I love that this series takes place in Ireland. The way that modern life is weaved into a magical one that is heavy on folklore is done in a fabulous way that keeps you intrigued. I appreciated that while Ashley and Casek (the male love interest) deal with danger that is after Ashley, they don’t have any silly miscommunication drama between the two of them once their relationship has solidified (my least favorite trope EVER). I thought their relationship felt a little rushed, but other than that I really enjoyed their chemistry.
I am excited to continue to see where the author takes us with the next book. I definitely recommend reading this if you enjoy urban fantasy romance books with easy world building, and interesting characters.
Copy received from The Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.
If I believed I enjoyed book 1, I was kidding myself because this book is TOP NOTCH! Casek and Ashley’s romance is not only amazing and steamy and just perfect but each character stands out perfectly for me. I actually enjoyed Ashley more than book 1’s main female character, which I didn’t think i would, so this was a pleasant surprise, but also Casek is PERFECTION in a character. The push-pull of their romance, the avoidance of feelings, all paired with the protective thing he has going for him makes this story all around amazing.
Book 1 took care of the world building so this book is more fast-paced and gets right into it. The mystery presented was also enjoyable--enough I was into it without getting overwhelmed or bored.
Overall, the perfect blend of plot, romance, and steam
This was okay, although I feel like the description doesn't quite fit the plot. It makes it sound like there will be a lot of smut and a guy the main character isn't very fond of will be training her to use her powers.
In reality, he does train her a little but mostly in fighting/self defense, and she does just fine having topped up her power once.
Action wise, nothing major really happens until right towards the end and everything was quite predictable. There is some mystery though.
I did like Ashley and Casek's chemistry, and that there were only a few instances of any misunderstandings or keeping things from each other, then they dealt with their issues and moved on. I thought it was all incredibly grown up and healthy, I'll take communication over unnecessary drama any day!
I'll be honest, I didn't read the first book fully before starting this one but I think this does a good job of explaining anything you may need to know that happened previously. Reading the first book would definitely be beneficial in understanding how Ashley and Becca ended up in Belfast though.
Overall it was good and well written but not the best fantasy I've read.
Casek is a hard and brooding man who would love nothing more than to get away from Ashley. Casek had lived a long time and lost a loved one so many years ago. It was almost his undoing and her never wants to feel like that again. He has kept his distance for all women to protect his heart from feeling again. Second book in the series and loved it just as much as the first. Love Cats character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was the book that I needed to bust my reading slump. After a few meh-reads before it, I was really starting to worry that maybe I had fallen down the reading rabbit hole and it was just me being picky. Then comes Venom and Vice.... boom. Slump busted. After devouring the first book, I dove right into Venom & Vice, the world building that book 1 lays down continues into this one. Casek & Ashley have an undeniable connection that will melt the pages right off your kindle. Just saying. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.
