Taproot by Keezy Young is a beautifully illustrated graphic novel that mixes romance and the paranormal. I have to admit that it's not the kind of book that will stick with you long after you've finished reading it, but it is still a very enjoyable book to read. The artstyle is absolutely beautiful and I really loved it! If you're a fan of graphic novels that blend romance and the supernatural, then Taproot is definitely worth checking out and I highly recommend it if you want something quick to read.
This is a very cute and brilliantly queer graphic novel with a supernatural twist!
I loved the green and yellow aesthetics and found it to be a cool premise!
I read this around a month ago, and yet this book is still sticking with me like a ghost! It was such a heartfelt and moving tale and I want a million more stories like it! The art was stunning as well.
A beautiful queer, heartfelt, heartwarming story that was beautifully written and thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. The cozy storyline following the gardening necromancer was such a fun twist and a breath of fresh air to read. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a feel-good story!
Taproot is a graphic book about a gardener, Hamal, who's able to see and communicate with ghosts. Hamal has become best friends with one of the ghosts, Blue, and when they find out their ghost friend is in danger, they are willing to do anything to help him, even if that means letting him go.
This was such a cozy and beautiful story, with amazing illustrations, queer rep and a set of characters that make your heart melt. The relationship between Hamal and Blue was very cute and I truly loved how it was developed. My only complaint is that the story felt a bit rushed, especially toward the end. I would've also loved to know more about the in-between and the reapers (the design of the reaper was fantastic!). But, all in all, this book was such a delight to read and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and wholesome read, filled with fantasy and supernatural elements.
*Thank you NetGalley for sending me an early digital copy of Taproot in exchange for an honest review
Taproot is a short, but beautiful story about love and loss (with some m/m representation!). First things first, the illustrations in this book were absolutely stunning. The art style and color story really made the story more enjoyable. The characters were well-developed by the end, and I really felt the love between the two characters. While I did enjoy Taproot, it did still feel too short. The end came too quickly, and I wanted to read more about the world and character's relationships. I think the romance was great, but it definitely could've been more developed.
This was just lovely and perfect. Super cozy and yet wonderfully creepy. The artwork is fantastic and I absolutely loved the story and romance. I could easily follow these characters for more and more volumes. The only thing I wish would’ve been different is seeing the other ghosts from the beginning a little more after the main story. It felt like they just disappeared. Other than that it’s absolutely fantastic.
A wonderfully heartwarming story with a whimsical art style that will have you hooked from the first panel! But the eye for detail is not just evident in the art--the story itself is set in a world that is otherworldly yet grounded in the characters' emotions and relationships. Just as the characters respond to the circumstances of their environment, so too does that environment represent their emotions. As a result, Taproot creates a beautiful fantasy world within its few pages that feels just as real as it does fantastical, and will leave you wanting to return again and again.
This book is perfect for fans of Heartstopper and The House in the Cerulean Sea!
I an unable to review this title, as it was archived before I had a chance to download and read it. This feedback is only to stop this title from adversely affecting my netgalley feedback rate. If in the future I have the opportunity to read this title, I will post a proper review here.
This is such a cute queer graphic novel! I really liked the characters, and I loved the art. The only thing I would've changed is that I wish it was a bit longer, because it felt like everything happened a bit too fast now. However, it is still a really good graphic novel that I would definitely recommend!
I asked Netgalley for the ARC because the cover looked cute, but now that I've read the story I can say, that yes, the story matches the vibes of the cover. Taproot is cute, is interesting, and is a cozy feel good fantasy. If you've liked things like Legends & Lattes, or The tea dragon society.
An incredibly sweet, heartwarming read. The workings of the magic system get a bit overlooked, and I would have liked for the story to spend more time diving into the core moments and the emotions they generate for the characters, but all in all, this was lovely for what it set out to be.
Taproot is an enjoyable and wholesome LGBT+ story. Non-evil ghosts and necromancers are nothing new, but Taproot's take on the latter especially is pretty unique. Other than LGBT+ representation, the ethnic/racial representation that is present is also a nice touch, especially with how we don't find out that Blue is also bipoc until later. Overall, it's an adorable slice of life story with fantasy elements, incorporating important themes from life into a gentle experience.
This one was cute and sad at the same time. I honestly did enjoy the story but I feel like this could have been way more better in terms of the pacing and flow of the plot.
This graphic novel was a breath of fresh air! I hadn't heard of it before, but it was just so lovely seeing this story told in such beautiful visuals. The chracters were very nicely done as well, and I got to care about them, which usually doesn't happen in short stories. A great read overall!
beautiful art and a lovely story, I can see why this has won so many awards. I absolutely loved the focus on nature and the romance was heartbreaking
This was very cute and sweet, and absolutely gorgeously illustrated. I would have liked to see more background to the romance since it felt pretty abrupt!!
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. It's a cute story about a ghost and a gardener who are friends that eventually fall for each other. Outside of the romance, this story focuses on self-discovery and some ghostbusting. The side characters are funny and lovable which can be surprising for a novel about ghosts and death.
I am looking forward to the future work of this artist and hope everyone will find this graphic novel as charming as I did,
Very, very cute ! the lgbt representation is very well done. the images are eye-catching and the characters too. the story doesn't stay in the head, but it's still good entertainment
This was a very delightful and sweet graphic novel and i really enjoyed my time with it. The artwork was incredibly love and i really loved the characters and the story i look forward to reading more from this author
