I loved this story so much! Fast read, great graphics and a heartbreaking story. Prepare your tissues because you will cry.
Taproot is a delightfully illustrated graphic novel that makes for a quick, easy read. In so few pages, Keezy Young creates an engrossing and twisty story that had me hooked. The forest and the elements of Hamal's necromancy had me on the edge of my seat as I awaited the actions of the reaper (a character who turned out to be an absolute delight!). Blue and Hamal's relationship was an adorable centre point, much like the reaper I'm also a sucker for a cute romance. All in all, this was a sweet, intriguing, beautiful graphic novel about life and death with some excellent representation.
Thank you so much Netgalley for the advanced copy!
'Taproot' can be a great palette cleanser to take a break from dark and heavy stuff. I love the concept. It was a very sweet story. The love Blue, the ghost and Hamal, the necromancer shares is so tender and precious. The illustrations are cute as well. However, I didn't like what was supposed to be the 'Plot twist'. It was predictable and rushed. I may have enjoyed it more if the story was longer, the suspense thicker and provided more in-depth explanation.
This book was a very cute and quick read! The art was absolutely gorgeous as well. The part I loved most was seeing how realistic and natural the relationship between the characters was. Definitely recommend to anyone!
This was a beautiful yet slightly creepy graphic novel. I adored the art style and I found that the story flowed really nicely. I don't know why I've never read this before!
Taproot is a short and sweet read that is about ghosts, a gardener, friendship, and romance. I loved the low fantasy vibes and the characters were so endearing. The color palette of blues and greens used here was so lovely and I loved the jagged art style. I only wish the first part of the story had been longer, so the ending didn’t feel too rush. But other than that, I really enjoyed this graphic novel!

A whole some romance about a gardener and a ghost who fall in love. The art style was wonderful, I recommend :)
Thanks to OniPress and Keezy Young for providing a free digital ARC of Taproot via Netgalley. My review is voluntary.
Taproot is a YA paranormal fantasy graphic novel. It had beautiful artwork that included lots of floral imagery, earthy colors and appealing character designs. The story was short and easy to read and included ghosts and a cozy queer romance. I read this a few months ago and I enjoyed reading just as much, the second time around. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance and the paranormal.
This was very cute. Loved the art style. Such an interesting take on necromancers too. I wish there was more so we could see Hamal do more work as a necromancer and just more of his dynamic with Blue.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a free e-arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
Gosh, this was a gorgeous book! The art style and the colours are gorgeous, they really instilled a sense of calm and I could stare at them all day! Taproot has easily become one of my favourites <3
The romance was super cute, and it was a lovely easy read! I will definitely be picking up more of Keezy's work!
A great read for fans of Tea Dragon Society!
5/5!!
Unfortunately, i never got to read this one.
I planned to read it today and found out that the archive date was a week ago.
I'm confused on why the publisher set the archive date A MONTH before the book was published, but nevertheless,
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an e-arc of this novel
Ghosts have never been more attractive, or the afterlife any greener. Hamal is a sweet boy, who spends his days comforting the dead and trying to stop them from destroying the merchandise at his workplace. Also, I love the Grim Reaper that comes to find a rogue necromancer.
Hamal, a gardener who can see ghosts, and Blue, a ghost who has been haunting Hamal for awhile (along with a couple of other ghosties!) are a bit closer than friends. Unfortunately, before anything is spoken aloud between the two Blue is confronted by a reaper, a reaper who wants to make a deal...
This graphic novel is so short, and yet it actually made me cry (in a good way!) I loved the story which was interesting, intriguing, warm, cozy, and a bit emotional. I loved the art just as much! It was so bright and colorful without being overwhelming (the amount of green on the page made me happy! As did the LGBT+ rep!).
I'd totally recommend this to anyone who finds the premise interesting, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm crossing my fingers that maybe there will be another volume in the future, but if not it does make a great stand alone.

The drawing is very beautiful and I liked the characters, BUT in certain parts of the story it seemed that pages with explanations and/or links to the scenes were missing. In general I liked it, yes, but I would have given it more stars if the details of the plot had been better conected.
Taproot by Keezy Young is a wholesome graphic novel featuring a ghost, a gardener, the dilemma of falling in love without a real body, a problem in the in-between of life and death, and how these two will face these challenges.
I absolutely adored this book! It's just a short read but in a span of those few pages, it managed to execute several vibes, including sad-gay-tears, bestfriends-to-lovers, protecc-my-love, and other good ones.
It is quite a simple tale yet it delievered a lot, and that's mainly what amazes me with this book. Seriously, you just have to read it.
I wasn't really into any paranormal romances but this one's so so good!
A cute, delightful (and kinda creepy?) love story! Beautiful art, and excited to see more from this author.
Told through the eyes of a ghost name Blue, Taproot is a beautiful story about breaking down barriers to be with the person you love.
Hamal is not just your average gardener… he sees ghosts. And even though that’s what brought them together, Blue had seen him from afar and followed him to get to know him, unknowing of his gift. Their beginning might seem a little creepy (although ghosts, in essence are creepy, right?), but the story is beautiful in its simplicity.
I love that the plant shop became a home for wayward ghosts, not literally, but they gave plenty of found family vibes that all the ghostly kids wanted to be there.
One of my fave characters is the Reaper. I definitely would have loved more of her… maybe a spin-off???? She was kind of funny and I think her story would be incredible!
This was adapted from a webcomic, but it has the disjointed style of storytelling. I initially had to go back to notice the time jumps. It's a love story, but I didn't understand the world building. I love the soothing earth tone colors and the soft dreamy style of the art work was interesting. I felt like the faces weren't well defined and a lot of emoting was done through body language.
This graphic novel was so cute. I loved the story line and thought the pictures were wonderfully drawn. It was such a wholesome romance and the concept was great. I read this in one sitting and would definitely re-read as a comfort.
The best word to describe this book is whimsical. The story has a way of sweeping you along with its whimsical characters and plot—a ghost in love with a gardener that can see him. The artwork was beautifully drawn with gorgeous color.s The plot was not that complicated but sometimes a little confusing. I wish this story had better pacing and showed how the love blossomed. Also, the ending with the grave was confusing. Why did that happen, and how? More backstory about each character would have enriched the story and made you feel for the characters more. Overall, this book's aesthetic and art were great, but the story could have been better tuned and maybe made into a series rather than a single volume.
