Sarah Adams is one of my favorite new authors to me! The Enemy was a delightful enemies-to-lovers, clean romance that gave me all the feels I didn't know I needed! Throughout June and Ryan's love story, I laughed and fell for them many times. I did not want their story to end!
The narration was the perfect way to experience this book. I highly recommend it!
Thank you, Dreamscape Media, for my complimentary audiobook.
I really liked The Enemy. I loved the enemies to lovers dynamic and I also loved all of the fun banter between them. This was a perfect, light summer read!
Thank you NetGalley & Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This is the second book in the IT HAPPENED IN CHARLESTON series but can be read as a standalone novel!
I read the ebook a few months ago but actually preferred listening to the audiobook!
What I loved:
Dual POV
Enemies to lovers
Sassy female MC
Strong/impressive male MC
Southernisms
Great chemistry & closed door romance
Witty banter
I just adore Sarah Adams. I will read anything she writes & recommend her to all my romance lovers!
The book was very cute and enjoyable but I really don't like the audiobooks on Netgalley, they're pretty hard to enjoy when the audio is so auto tuned.
I will be recommending this to my followers who are obsessed with romance. Suck a fun summer read!!!!
Super cute. I have not read much by this author, but I enjoyed this cute little romance story. Lighthearted and a quick read.
June left her past in the past especially Ryan the guy that she loved but was too good for her. Now she is a successful bakery owner and ready for her friend's wedding. But when Ryan shows up as the best man all of her plans fall through and every feeling she has had for him comes rushing back.
This book was super cute and I loved that it wasn't the typical enemies to lovers tropes but rather super competitive friends turned enemies due to a massive miss communication.
Light summer, ready to go read just waiting for you!
I really wanted to like The Enemy but I found myself disinterested and never wanting to pick it up. All of the characters felt very hollow and lacked depth and most came off as very immature. I really did not like June, the main character, at all. I found her annoying throughout the book. So many of the little comments she would make throughout the narration were so unnecessary and annoying. June annoyed me right from the beginning and I was hoping she would get better as the book went on but she didn’t. She couldn’t communicate well with anyone in her life and wanted to avoid all of her problems.
The romance between the two characters felt rushed. Even though they had known each other in high school their journey from making up to eventually falling in love happens in like a week.
Overall, this book was pretty disappointing for me and I was hoping for more. It's a 2.5 for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audio of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved Ryan and June together. Their banter and chemistry made me laugh and smile. This was a quick and enjoyable read. Definitely recommend it for those looking for a light read.

The Enemy is a fun frenemies-to-lovers romcom with a foodie element, southern charm, and ANTICS. In true Sarah Adams fashion, this story follows an extremely relatable heroine, June, as she maid of honor duties for her BFF while encountering her high school nemesis (whom she’s secretly crushed on forever), Ryan, as the best man. Hilarity ensues as Ryan, also pining for “June Bug” forever, engages in a war-like effort to win her over as a friend and convince her they have a real connection that could result in major romantic sparks. And does it ever!
I love how Sarah Adams is able to portray truly laugh out loud situations that feel believable then turn around and have you feeling deep emotions as you get to know the heartaches and past of the characters.
A quick note about the audiobook: it has one of the BEST male narrators I’ve heard in contemporary! Both narrators do a good job, but he knocks it out of the park and just *sounds* like I imagine Ryan to be, with all his personality.
Thank you to Netgalley for the audiobook review copy. This is my honest review.
Even though I tend to veer away from closed door romances, Sarah Adams’ brilliant writing always makes me feel satisfied by the end. June and Ryan were light and cute characters and I really enjoyed their back and forth.
The Enemy by Sarah Adams
Ryan returns to Charleston for a friends wedding. He is a successful chef and he has had a thing for June since high school. The story acts like this is an enemy to lovers story but that is not really what this is at all. They both have attraction for the other but it is complex.
I first went back and read the first book in this series which I absolutely loved. June is the sister from the first book. June co-owns a bakery. I was a bit disappointed in this installment because the first one was so good so I had high expectations for continuing the series.
What I did not like is both June and Ryan annoyed me with their behaviors at times was like come on you too just get on with it. It lacked the excitement and the crossing your fingers to see these two together like the first book had all that plus some.
It wasn't a complete wash for me but it was close to that. The first book was so amazing it had all the feels and with a bit of angst but love prevailed. This one had to much pushing away and not enough feels in it. Its like you know they have attraction but lets just keep pushing each other away. I do not know June has no confidence and it just wasn't working for me. I wanted her to be a little more fierce.
Connie Shabshab & Lee Samuels did a great job narrating this audio book they did bring each character to life. The narration had nothing to do with why I did not like the book as much as I wanted to. I really wanted to like June and Ryan but it ended up being meh for me.
I do think it is still worth reading especially after you read book one The Match. Your opinion may differ from mine it still was a decent romance just some elements that I just did not like. I will continue to read this author like I said book one in the series was just that amazing. Sarah please write more books like The Match.

Sigh, I loved this book. I’ve been reading a lot of heavier reads lately and this was the perfect opposite of those. This was like sunshine in book form.
Between the story and the narrators, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much throughout. Saccharine and sweet. Just a peach of a book.
3.5/5 After reading When in Rome I had to go back and revisit some of the Sarah Adams' that I had not gotten to since I loved it so much. This was a sweet story, but I did not love it as much as When in Rome. It's a cute reacquainting story but enemies to lovers it is not. It is more a tale of miscommunication that I wish could get resolved earlier. As great as they are written together, there are just to many barriers that should not be there.

The Enemy is the second installment within the It Happened in Charleston series. In this, you will watch Ryan and June fall in love. Well, eventually that is. Now if you've read the first book, The Match, then June will seem familiar. Mostly because she is one of Jake's sisters. After devouring his book in one sitting, it's pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that I would be excited to jump into June's book.
From the very beginning, I loved Ryan and June. Their bantering, chemistry, and everything else just made me smile. To me, it seemed like they thought the other was the one that got away. Which, yes, they completely were. It just took them forever to act on those feelings and fall for one another.
Besides that, I just really love June's family. They just keep getting better and better in my eyes. I'm also very happy for Ryan and June becoming a family in their own way as well. They truly deserve one another. Seriously, this was so hard to put down and I hope we will get another book in this series soon.
I am a huge Sarah Adam's stan after the Cheat Sheet but unfortunately had to dnf The Enemy at 26. I really wanted to like this book but I found myself disinterested and never wanting to pick up this book. I thought this was going to be a cute enemies-to-lovers book, but it definitely wasn't..

𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖: twelve years after ryan didn’t kiss june back, he has returned to town for their best friends wedding. they used to fued day in and day out in high school and she’s ready for a full on war.
𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒: another cute sarah adam’s book. she’s so great at writing romantic comedy - she keeps the reader engaged that way so well. her FMC june AND MMC ryan had really great banter in this book and i loved how they were always pulling pranks on each other. i also loved ryan’s nickname for her “june bug” - how cute!! i think one thing that was lacking for me in this one though was that the romance was the story and that was pretty much it. normally i love to see some other growth or underlying plot lines with the main characters. other than that it was quick & enjoyable - everything i know i’m going to get when picking up a sarah adams book!
𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: i liked it!
special thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media & Sarah Adams for an ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This audio overall wasn’t very good quality. Also the characters in the book lacked depth and felt very hollow. The book felt like a hallmark movie and was written with the same style of character development.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a delight The Enemy is! This was my third Sarah Adams and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the worlds Adams builds, all her protagonists are cute and relatable. This feels like reading a Hallmark movie. 10/10 recommend for fans of rom coms.
I had a hard time getting through this book. It was tedious and predictable. The main character's were unrealistically immature and the chemistry between them was disappointing at best.
