This one was a funny, cute childhood enemies to lovers. Poor June, a few scenarios that were embarrassing for her in front of Ryan! My first read by this author and a really good overall read.

Narrators Connie Shabshab & Lee Samuels did a great job.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I had the opportunity to listen to a eARC for the Audio Book of this book.

This book has all the keys. Enemies to Lovers, Second Chance of Love, complete missed signals on both parts and my NEW favorite theme...cooks/bakers. :) There have been a lot of those recently.

June holds a grudge on something Ryan did at the end of high school.
Ryan has been in love with June since High School and has never wanted to ruin their 'friendship' of playing pranks on each other.

I really thought Lee Samuels narrates Ryan very well. June seemed a little whinier voice than the character was, but still a good audio book. I would recommend listening to it!

3/5: It Happened in Charleston Book #2: I listened to the audiobook version of this book, thanks to NetGalley granting me access to an eARC of the audiobook.

This was a very clean romance, with an enemies-to-lovers (ish, remember, clean romance) trope. I thought this was a sweet book, but it was just a tad too wholesome and a standard romance trope. The miscommunication trope, plus the ‘enemies’ focus of a high school relationship was a very obvious take. I did enjoy that Ryan really had to chase June for their first date, and I loved that even through the ending of this book, they loved each other, but still pranked each other.

Brief Plot: In high school, Ryan and June were stuck associating with each other as their best friends dated. Twelve years later, they are getting married, and June is ready to throw her successes in Ryan’s face. What she didn’t pan for was the chemistry they have, and her admitting to having had some feelings for him in school. With that new knowledge, Ryan is ready to fight June for a chance to take her on a date. Because that’s her rule. She only ever goes on one date with someone.

Thank you NetGalley, and Dreamscape Media, for an eARC copy of the audiobook of The Enemy, written by Sarah Adams, and narrated by Connie Shabshab and Lee Samuels. This is my honest review.

I don’t know how she does it, but Sarah Adams is the master of clean, funny romance loaded with chemistry! In The Enemy, Adams has created a duo of characters that compliment each other perfectly. I love June’s sass and fire. I adore Ryan’s ability to see through her crap and call her out on it. Together they are the perfect couple and their story was a delight to listen to. The audiobook is well done, with narrators who bring to life the personality and chemistry of these characters. I honestly didn’t want to put this story down and will be adding it to my reread list.

*Thank you to Netgalley, Sarah Adams, and Dreamscape Media for an advanced audiobook copy. All opinions are my own.

June only has one rule - no second dates. It’s been five years since her broken engagement and she can’t let herself get hurt again. After twelve years she never expected Ryan Henderson, her highschool frenemy, to walk back into her life.

Apparently I have a new trope that I hate, highschool bully to lover. I’ve seen The Enemy referred to as enemies to lovers, but June and Ryan’s highschool relationship is more bully and victim. He only “teases” her because of how much he likes her and picks it right back up as a 30ish year old adult. The whole storyline had all the cringe and teenage angst you would expect in a YA novel not an adult romance.

The Enemy is the second book in the It Happened in Charleston series but can easily be read as a stand alone. I think the whole storyline was just too rushed, especially the ending. Neither main character was particularly relatable. June acts whiney and childish throughout most of the plot. Ryan’s attitude and motivations are just confusing.

I have read several other books by author Sarah Adams and enjoyed them so this one must just be a bad fit for me. I still plan to read more of her work in the future.

Its cute! but not my favourite. I think my mistake is going into Sarah Adams books expecting to like them as much as I liked Cheat Sheet but they haven't lived up to them. A lot I will say if you liked the It Happened in Nashville series you'll also enjoy this series because I enjoyed them about the same and they are similar in the writing style.

It's miscommunication high school rivals to strangers to lovers. Although they've both been inlove with eachother the whole time and have been comparing all their other relationships to the one they never even had a relationship with.

Thank you NetGalley, the publishers Dreamscape Media, author Sarah Adams, and narrators Connie Shabshab & Lee Samuels for creating and giving me an advanced copy of the audibook verison of this book for early review.

Sarah Adams has done it again! This was yet another adorable, laugh-out-loud, feel-good, enemies to lovers romance. All of the best elements for a good book - quirkiness, miscommunication and a perfect ending, I highly recommend this one for summer beach readers. I enjoyed every bit and I am so pleased to call Sarah a favorite author. This audio version had spot-on narrators and was easily a 5 star book. Thank you NetGalley for this treat!

I adore dual narrations and the voices were perfect for our main characters. They really brought them to life.
The Enemy by Sarah Adams was delightful. I found myself smiling often while reading it.
It’s full of southern charm and sass which I adore.
Ryan and June are enemies or at least that’s what June has always believed. Ryan is back in town (after 12 years away) for their best friends wedding and June is ready for war.
Ryan is definitely my new book boyfriend and June is sassy, relatable and hilarious. This story was just so much fun! If you are looking for a clean and lighthearted rom com that leaves a smile on your face then do yourself a favor and check out Sarah’s books.

I’ve had the ebook of The Enemy downloaded on my phone for ages but I hadn’t gotten around to reading it. I saw the audiobook of this pop up on NetGalley to request so I figured why not. I move through audiobooks way faster than ebooks so it was a sign it was time to read this.
The narrators were good. No complaints, they both have nice voices and read the story well.
This is my 4th read from Sarah Adams, I just haven’t read The Match yet, and it’s my least favorite so far. I don’t really have any specific complaints I just didn’t like it very much. Not even close to The Cheat Sheet or The Temporary Roomie both I loved.
Note for picky romance readers, this is closed door like the rest of her books. Zero spice. Kissing is all you get. I know that’s a deal breaker for some people so I like to mention it even though I don’t personally care usually.
I do like to read all of an authors backlist when it’s a reasonable amount so I’m not mad that I read this but it was boring in comparison to her other books. If you are looking to start her books read the cheat sheet or the Nashville books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the review copy of the audiobook! The marked release date on NG is 5/10, Amazon says 4/26. This is for the audiobook but the ebook has been out for almost 2 years so it’s available if you want to read this.

This was an absolute worthy read! I would've given it 5 stars but June got on my nerves a bit, even near the end, so I reduced it by a star. I think the premise was great, I loved the author's writing style. The comedic bits in between were hilarious and relatable! The two main characters you just want to root for, through it all. Was a cozy, quick read. Would highly suggest!

This audiobook was given to me by NetGalley and the publishers to read and review. All comments above are my own opinions after completing the book.

Childhood frenemies to lovers, lots of kookie coincidences like most rom-coms and overall very sweet & wholesome but missing that little spark that makes it great

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. Cute love story. The writing it witty and comical. There were some parts that I thought were a little juvenile. I don't know how a 30 year old woman has never every cut food with a knife before? How do you go from absolutely hating someone for 10 plus years because he pulled back and didn't kiss you in high school and you just want to get pure revenge to falling madly in love with him? I found it also annoying that he went into her house without invitation? That is creepy. Just a few little things that kind of made me feel like I was reading a high school young adult romance book instead of two people were were 30 and supposed to be adults. I didn't hate it by any means but I didn't absolutely love.

Well Sarah knocked this one out of the park with the one liners and ALL THE FREAKING FEELS. Simmering underneath all that rage, is that thread of tension that you know one day is going to just snap. June and Ryan are arch nemesis’ but their best friends getting married is bringing them back together after 12 years and it only takes one look to know that there is so much unfinished business left between these two.

They are both in the food industry (she owns a donut shop and he’s a famous chef) so bonus points there too, but the real *chef’s kiss* here is the way that they have pined over one another for years. Mostly Ryan, because OH MY GAH. 🥰

This, this right here is what I want to read. Real people, real lives, real messy love.

Thank you to Dreamscape, Sarah Adams and Netgalley for an audio copy.

The Enemy by Sarah Adams is the second book in her It Happened in Charleston series. In The Enemy, local baker and novelty donut shop owner June runs into her high school crush, Ryan who scorned her twelve years ago. Their mutual friends are getting married so she is forced to put up with him during the wedding festivities! This book is filled with Sarah Adams classics: prank wars, laugh-out-loud monologues, and the steamiest closed-door scenes you will ever read. The yummy donuts are an added bonus that makes this book extra fun. In my opinion, her books keep getting better and better-- which by default means this one is not my favorite of hers. But, I still would recommend it to anyone-- especially fans of the enemies to lovers trope or fans where the heroine is a baker/hero is a chef :) The audio version is a delight to listen to on the go!

I thought The Enemy, a RomCom by Sarah Adams, was fun and cute. I laughed out loud quite a few times.
June and Ryan have been somewhat in war with each other since school, but secretly liked each other. Twelve years later they end up having to spend time together since they’re both in their best friends wedding.

Sarah Adams is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I loved this enemy-to-lovers romantic comedy! June hasn’t seen Ryan since the night of their high school graduation when he left town after almost kissing her. The two were enemies all through school and June thought this was just another way Ryan was trying to win their constant battle. When they run into each other 12 years later, their battling continues but the two cannot deny the attraction they share. Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the egalley audio in exchange for my honest review.

June and Ryan have been battling for nearly their whole lives. After 12 years of not seeing each they are thrown together to celebrate their best friends getting married.

In those 12 years June has been engaged and didn't get married. Started a successful bakery. And questioned everything about her life.

Ryan has become an extremely successful chef, who is offered a huge opportunity right before heading home to Charleston for the wedding.

As highschoolers they did everything they could to get under each other's skin. They both wanted each other but let's face it, they were silly teenagers who were afraid of letting the other know.

Now they are adults and Ryan will do anything to make June see that he wants her and will do anything to make sure she knows she is worth it. June is certain he is the same boy he used to be and spends far too long "hating him".

This is such a fun story, June is hilarious and awkward. Ryan is a dream. There is a lot of heart in this book. The friendships and family are so wonderful. I loved June's family, he mom reminds me of my mom.

I listened to the audiobook and loved the narration. Connie Shabshab and Lee Samuels were the perfect June and Ryan. The only thing I missed was a Charleston accent, but that is just a bit of nitpicking.

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audiobook for my honest review.

I’ve rated this book 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Enemy is the story of June and Ryan, who reunite at a wedding more than a decade after they graduate high school. The last time they saw each other, they were self-proclaimed enemies who spent their childhood torturing each other as often as possible while secretly pining for one another. This story had so much potential, and my rating is based on two big pitfalls.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters, and their banter for the most part read genuine and comedic. June herself was a bit slapsticky, but I laughed out loud more than once at her stream of consciousness. The relationship between June and Ryan was well-written during the build-up and the tension was REALLY good. I don’t prefer fade-to-black romances, personally, but I respect that choice.

What ultimately led to me taking off a star was that the pranks and torture of each other never let up, even after they were officially a couple. I felt like the tense moments during the build up were more sensual and loving than the scene when they officially committed… literally saying, “I hate you,” to each other. Yikes. The pranks were frankly immature for 30-somethings and a total turn-off for me. It made me much more disappointed in their ending than I wanted to be.

The other HUGE GLARING MISS here is the total lack of connection to Charleston, in spite of that city being in the title of this series. Charleston, a beautiful historical city that helps small independent businesses flourish, is literally bursting with restaurants and bakeries, beautiful landscapes, quaint places for weddings or dates or escapes. There is simply nothing, no small detail—no herringbone sidewalks, no peaceful walks around the Battery, no renovated church bars, no Gullah cuisine, no fancy exclusive restaurants South of Broad, no throngs of thirsty Citadel cadets, no afternoons on a boat on the marsh, no Folly Beach or Daniel Island or Mt. Pleasant—that connects this story to Charleston, and I was sorely disappointed in that. Charleston is the type of place you use to enrich your story—especially a love story; this story was set in Podunk, South Carolina instead. Big bummer!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for giving me this audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
