Thank you Netgalley for the chance to give my honest review on this! It was cute but I felt like the language was a little childish but over all I liked it! 3.5
She thought he hated her. He thought she hated him. Both have been denying the truth for too long. It wasn’t long ago that I first came across Sarah Adams via her utterly charming The Cheat Sheet. I loved that one so was thrilled when I got a chance to listen to an audio ARC of The Enemy. A big thanks to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for that. The Enemy tells the story of June and Ryan, two people who always seemed at odds with each other while in high school, though the truth was they were always fighting their latent attraction for the other. Now 12 years later they are reunited for their best friends wedding. They aren’t the same people they were back then, but the attraction is still there. Can they put the past behind them, get over their baggage, and finally admit how they feel? I enjoyed the heck out of this sweet romance. I loved June’s frequent and extremely humorous inner thoughts. And though a few times I thought Ryan’s insane confidence/cockiness made him come off as a bit of a jerk, I did like his character, mostly because I knew how much he cared about June. Besides June and Ryan, the book has an excellent supporting cast and a delightfully humorous and romantic storyline. Basically everything I want and expect from a rom-com, and I can happily recommend The Enemy to anyone who is a fan of the genre.
Super sweet enemies to lovers romcom. I LOVED the narrators. The story was the typical romance plot and the characters were likable. The narrators definitely made this for me.
Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of The Enemy by Sarah Adams. This is a fantastic enemies to lovers romance. My favorite trope and this one is funny too. The narrator did a great job!
This book was so sweet. It reminded me of some of my fav romcom movies. I laughed, I cringed, and I was rooting for the June and Ryan throughout their whole journey. The audiobook was fantastic, making the characters come alive in my mind.
Ryan and June reunite at their best friends wedding, 12 years after a near-kiss. It’s a classic case of bad communication, but it moved at a great pace and Sarah Adams writes such fun banter, and has a way of making you feel the chemistry and the tension despite it being closed door, that it didn’t feel frustrating.
Read if you like:
- dual POV
- an element of enemies-to-lovers tension (maybe not fully enemies, but this greats a great prank and sassy dialogue dynamic)
- closed door or clean romance
- hilarious situations and banter
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the early audiobook in exchange for my honest review!
Thank you Net Galley and DreamScape Media for this Audiobook arc in exchange for a honest review.
I loved this Sarah Adams enemies to lovers romance book. The banter and chemistry between June and Ryan was probably my favorite part of the book. At times it was hysterical to the point I was crying laughing. The prank wars and there need to one up each other and not show each other weakness was so fun to follow. The Enemy was also adorable, swoons and a story I just had so much fun with. June has become one of my favorite heroines. I related so much about o her, especially her insecurities. I loved the way The author wrote her. Love Ryan as well and the side characters.
After listening to the audiobook I became a big fan of the June POV narrator Connie Shabshab.. She brought the character of June alive for me and entertain me so much. I also love Lee Samuels’ Ryan POV narrations. I especially thought he did great during the more romantic scenes.
Really loved this audiobook and am giving it 5 stars.
Enemies to lovers tension, a second chance at romance, playfully devious pranks and Nick Lachey apparel…what’s not to love about this romance story?! 😉
June and Ryan have such amazing chemistry and tension between them. I love how Ryan pulls June out of her shell and forces her to step past her comfort zone in order to take a chance on the future of a happily ever after together. That being said, his respect for her and her considerate nature is super sweet and swoonworthy. Basically, I loved reading this story and listening to this audiobook. Many thanks to Sarah Adams and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this audiobook, all thoughts are my own.
This book was adorable, just as I expected. There was something about this story that made it feel so believable, like some of the antics I read actually happened to someone in real life. I think that’s what drew me into Ryan and June’s story so much.
The dialogue between the two of them had me laughing out loud at times, especially towards the beginning when they were “fighting.” They knew how to push each other’s buttons for sure, and that was relayed beautifully. The two narrators really brought a wonderful element to the book that reading alone cannot compare to. They were Ryan and June and made this book so enjoyable to listen to.
I love how Ryan never gave up on June when she just wanted to run away. With her last relationship haunting her, it made sense that she was reluctant to allow herself to open up again. But Ryan handled her reluctance with patience, understanding, and love, giving her plenty of time to open her heart up again.
This book is full of swoony moments and funny kitchen scenes and I highly recommend it. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audiobook copy.
Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for letting me listen to this audiobook Arc.
This was super cute. I have loved Sarah Adams ever since I read The Cheat Sheet. She has an amazing ability to
bring the chemistry, tension and honestly steam without any explicit content. I was hooked on these characters from the first bar scene.
This story is enemies to lover with the essence of Second Chance romance. Super adorable. Super "it's always been you vibes". So far, every male that Adams writes has me drooling at the mouth. Like yes. Gimme gimme. I would absolutely recommend this book if you read The Cheat Sheet and are looking for something similar or even if you are just looking for a light read in general.
One thing I will say is that I would pick up the ebook or physical copy instead of the audiobook. I could not connect with the female narrator. I don't think her voice fit the character at all. The male narrator was great though.
This was so good. It was funny and I loved the banter between the two main characters. I look forward to reading more of Sarah's books.
This enemies-to-lovers story follows June and Ryan who reconnect twelve years after warring with one another in high school, only to realize they've pined over each other for years.
This is such a light and entertaining read. June can be a bit much at times but is endearing and relatable, and Ryan is a swoony and sweet male lead. I loved the witty banter and watching their gradual progression as tensions thaw and they progress to lovers.
It's a fun story that makes for easy listening on a road trip or at the beach and I recommend picking it up!
