Engaging and atmospheric. A recommended purchase for collections where crime and thrillers are popular.

I am stunned with how much I loved this story!

I thought this was going to be simple story of a group of people who decide to live in a commune. That idea always appeals to me. A more simple life, growing your own food, stepping away from the craziness of the big cities. In theory, I really like the thought of this lifestyle.

Jennings did a wonderful job of starting the reader off with becoming empathetic for the main characters so that you are easily brought into the story and are rooting for them throughout the book. I was so happy as everything came together and the commune lifestyle was working for the group. Family found stories are always one of my favorite genres to read.

But then, everything goes sideways! There always has to be that one bad apple. The last 20% of this book had my heart racing and I actually had tears in my eyes at one point.

If you enjoy slow burn, psychological dramas, definitely pick up this 5 star read!

For me, the book started out slow and I had a hard time getting into it. After I started to get invested, it was an interesting storyline.

Tara and Kit left everything behind to move with their friend Jeremy to a rundown farm in Cornwall to create a utopia. Working with a few others, they hope to create something different than what they grew up with. For Kit, it's an escape from his wealthy family and their empty homes, devoid of love. For Tara, it's the hope for a life full of nature and freedom. They hope to raise their daughter to appreciate everything wonderful and beautiful.

Once they arrive to the farm, things start changing when Jeremy brings a young girl, Dani, to stay and he starts implementing discipline and rules that were never discussed. Jeremy starts to step into more of a cult leader role rather than a commune role and it's not the utopia that they once all agreed.

The Haven by Amanda Jennings is thrilling story that could have taken many different avenues, and it took all the right one. Reading this book transported me to the moors and fields of Cornwall. I was in the fields with Kit, Tara and Dani. I could hear the goats bleating, feel the wind blowing and rain on my skin, and cold water on my face. Amanda Jennings is able to transport readers to the time and place.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This already has lots of well deserved high ratings, and I don't have anything new to offer, so I'll just recommend it to thriller fans, particularly for those that like their stories dark.

I appreciate the free ARC for review!!

If this book doesn't grab you at first, keep reading. Though there is a bit of necessary exposition and stage setting to get through, once our cast of characters are assembled at Winterfall farm, the story really gains speed. I have actually lived on a commune, and I found Jenning's depiction of life on the farm believable. By turns glorious and squalid, the highs and lows of their small, rustic society were understandable, even enviable at times. But as the first winter sets in, bringing forth the cold, dark, and inner demons to the isolated group, the reader has to wonder--is utopia a possibility, under any circumstances?

A utopian commune--a group of friends living off the grid sounds like paradise, right? And it starts that way, but inevitably it goes wrong. I thought the characters and pace of the story was well-done, and it grabbed me right away.

What causes someone to go over the line from "leader" to "cult leader"? This was an interesting phycological thriller, thank you to netgalley for the ARC.

Now I have to read The Cliff House because if its written as good as The Haven I'm sold.

The Haven is a fabulous, well written novel.
Jennings writing is beautiful and draws you in from the start.
All of the characters were well developed and their individual flaws added to the overall tone and atmospherics of the book.
Taut, complex, and compulsively readable, The Haven is a razor-sharp tale.
Downright addictive… There was no way I could stop myself as I furiously flicked the pages till 2am. I loved it!
