The world in Tread of Angels is complex and I enjoyed the varied characters.
My only complaint is that the book seemed brief. It was not incomplete, but I was left wanting more. I want to know more about the secondary characters. I want to know more of the backstory. I need a prequel as well as a sequel set in this same world!
Tread of Angels s a novella-sized fantasy treat. This volume could be the start of a new series or it could be a one-off. In any event, Roanhorse’s approach to the weird western genre is to fill the story with devils and Angels. More significantly perhaps is that Moët of the book is about a trial in every sense of the word and Celeste’s seemingly hopeless Task of representing her sister.
I really liked the story and the characters, but the world was hard to imagine. I think this might have been better as a full-length novel. I can't decide if the main character got what she deserved in the end, or if everyone just didn't need her after they got, or could possibly get everything they wanted out of her.
I was given access to this ARC this morning (and WOW was I excited when I got the email!) and I’ve already finished it.
I read this in one sitting. I really enjoyed this world and the morality. My biggest issue? That this wasn’t a full length novel. There’s a LOT happening here and I do think this would benefit from being longer.
The ending was unexpected - but it did feel fitting. This was a breeze to read and really sucked me in!
