I wasn't familiar with Luke Caldwell before picking up this read--but boy, am I excited to follow his company and show now, lol!

I love his approach to style and home, and felt like it really meshed with my own. The book and houses/pics included definitely emphasize modern/contemporary (especially mid-century) styles, which is great if one enjoys that. I do, to a point--particularly contemporary--but would have enjoyed seeing a tad more variety.

Still, it's a great intro to the styles themselves, Caldwell's approach, and Pacific Northwest homes (holla!). Pinterest-worthy pictures and inspo, that's for sure! (And I might have spent a little too much time studying the bookshelves...was very satisfied to see an Ottolenghi cookbook make an appearance!)

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

"Home is a place to, above all, enjoy moments, gather as a family, and connect with loved ones."

Exactly! And, what better place to do that in a warm and cozy room filled with family-connected memorabilia . . . not a sparsely furnished room with shiny furniture, cold, bare floors, and sharp edges.

I'm sorry - I know that the rooms in this book are not to my taste, and I did try to keep that in mind while reviewing, but for a book that claims to reflect various design styles, there's a sameness all the featured homes. Most rooms feature glaring white walls, minimal knick-knacks, and a cool, crisp look.

The kindest thing I can say is that they look easy to clean.

Step into the hot seat with Luke Caldwell, founder of the Timber and Love design and build firm and HGTV front-man of Boise Boys and Outgrown in this beautiful journey through Caldwell’s design philosophy, tastes, proudest works, and more. This one is not only beautiful on the inside, but is also a stunning book on the outside, perfect for a gift or any coffee table that might be lonely. Excuse me now while I go find ways to be able to afford floating concrete stairs.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I love the Americana look, and after looking at this book, I have so many things I want to try in my place.

I love the author's HGTV shows, The Boise Boys and Outgrown! My wife and I eagerly await each episode. We are fascinated by the author, his incredible family, and his design aesthetic. And by his business partner Clint Robertson. Together they make an intriguing and entertaining pair.
The short television episodes really do not give Luke an opportunity to expound and explain his design rationale. Thank goodness for this book! It gives one a real look into what Luke is thinking, and how he comes to some of his design ideas. And the great photographs absolutely drive home the lessons. I just wish the book was about ten times longer, I could really devour it fully.
This is a designer that I think we will be hearing more from in the future. His out of the box thinking and thoughtfulness are absolutely needed in today's generic interior designs.
We will be looking forward to his next shows (please, Luke!).
Highly recommend!
