This book was at times hard for me to read. Although, a quick read, it often times felt long. While this is the author's story and I respect that it was a bit much for me.
I received this memoir from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a very short book. a short story, really. I read it in about an hour. truthfully, that’s about all of it I could take. I did keep reading because I wanted to know if things would be summed up at the end to make some sense of it all.
The answer is no.
The story comes at you fast. One situation after another, with no time to digest it. it’s like being blindfolder, spun in a circle and then asked to pin a tail on a donkey.
Before she said she was diagnosed as bipolar, I figured there was some mental health issue going on.
Earlier in the book the author writes:
The pain that I endured looking for the right man was almost more than I could bear.
and later she writes: All I wanted was to be loved and accepted for who I was.
I totally relate to that.
Unfortunately, that’s where the relatability ends. because the story just gets too out there and bizarre.
No matter how many times she moved, and I’ve lost count, she says people kept calling her a drug dealer and a crackhead. A task force kept monitoring her, and eventually it’s the FBI.
she also states: …I am a clairvoyant. I can read people’s lips from the back of their heads, so I must be psychic.
Towards the end of the book, she writes:
This is my list of things to do: find a publisher, publish this book, and get the word out that I am not a drug dealer or on drugs—and that’s the full truth behind the lies.
What I do not understand is how Palmetto Publishing published this book.
Palmetto Publishing states:
On their home page they state: Our publishing services were created to make the self-publishing process simple and easy. With personal, attentive customer service and satisfaction guaranteed, you can be sure you’re getting the highest level of service in the industry.
Shame on you. is all I can say. Someone should have seen that this woman got the help she so clearly needed.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
After reading this short memoir, my first though was, "What in the hell did I just read?!) This woman definitely has mental issues and I hope she gets proper treatment. I feel like Bipolar is just the tip of the iceberg.
It does sound like her son is going to do alright in life so there's the good part about this bizarre story.
