I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Frozen Cry’, book five in the Detective Amanda Steele series and written by Carolyn Arnold, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Alicia Gordon, founder of New Belle, is found dead in an isolated cabin and Detectives Amanda Steele and Trent Stenson are called out to investigate, but shortly after one of Alicia’s former colleagues dies while both detectives are with her. When it’s found that these women have died from the same lethal poison, Amanda has to question an ex-boyfriend and delve into his personal relationships.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the thrillers in this series but just as I think I’ve read the best one yet ‘Her Frozen Cry’ arrives and surpasses them all. From page one it’s had me in its grip, unable to stop reading for fear of missing an important clue, and I’ve been totally involved in the drama, suspense and every single twist and turn of the story. I love reading of Amanda and Trent who’ve formed a strong working relationship, batting ideas off each other until they finally coming up with the identity of the person responsible, while Amanda’s having to address the problems her adopted daughter Zoe is struggling with. This is a fantastic action-packed thriller that I’ve loved reading and has left me wanting more.
Her Frozen Cry is another solid police procedural in the Detective Amanda Steele series.
As Amanda and her partner Trent return to investigate the death of wife and mother Alicia Gordon.
However, when Amanda arrives on scene, she is shocked to discover she knows the victims husband and an investigation ensues. But one made all the more complicated by her feelings at seeing a friend who walked away from her whilst she was grieving the loss of her own husband Kevin and daughter Lyndsey.
Yet, Amanda is determined to find who hurt Alicia even if that means arresting her old friend, and as her and her partner Trent dig, Tony seems to have more motive to kill than not. Only Amanda is reluctant to act that is until another victim is discovered.
And with great pacing, fabulous detail and a killer I didn't expect it was an enjoyable read. That I'd happily recommend to others.
Her Frozen Cry is the fifth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series. I'm a huge fan. And this one did not disappoint. As always, this was an excellent who done it mystery. But we get to see a different side of Amanda, a more personal side; her struggles with her feelings for her partner Trent, the relationship with her adopted daughter Zoe, and with the case, dealing with the emotions from people in her past. She isn't as sure of herself in this book and it was a nice change of pace from the tough as nails detective she's been in previous stories. Great addition to the series and I can't wait for the next one!
I picked up this series on book three and compared to the other two that I have read this one was missing something in it's ingredients (maybe it was because I figured out the murderer early on, or was the personal connection that linked Amanda to the case which challenged my conception of her as a character to the case i'm not sure)
Having said that there were some interesting characters in this one and it's nice to see the development of the regular characters continuing and maybe book six will ignite the spark again.
I just recently discovered this author, but Her Frozen Cry is Carolyn Arnold's fifth book in the Detective Amanda Steele series. I read the fourth one and really enjoyed it and was pleased to see a new book in the series had come out. I really enjoyed this well-written procedural. The complicated case of who killed a successful business woman is even more difficult for Amanda since she used to be close friends with the victim's husband. Amanda is also trying to find a work/homelife balance after adopting a young girl and is fighting her feelings for her work partner, Detective Trent Stenson. I don’t always agree with Amanda’s decisions, but I appreciate her skills as a detective, and the loyalty she has for her friends.
The case is interesting and there is enough about Amanda's personal life that I could connect with her, but it didn't take over the murder mystery. I would like to get to know more about Trent, and hope that is possible in future books. This book had less of a thriller element than the prior book, but is a solid, fast-paced procedural. I really enjoyed it and plan to continue following this series.
I received this ebook from NetGalley through the courtesy of Bookouture. An advance copy was provided to me at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
This was yet another great addition to the series which I am loving. Each book in the series adds more layers to the relationships that Amanda has and looking forward to how it develops.
I want to say more but there will be spoilers so just read it and find out more.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
EXCELLENT addition to this terrific series, well written with an abundance of suspense & enjoyable characters portrayed by Amanda & her partner Trent. Enjoyed immensely & RECOMMEND highly as well as all previous Amanda Steele novels. Thanks to #NetGalley & #Bookouture for this ARC in return for my honest review.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
book 5 in the series with amanda steele, who i had hoped was a strong female lead, but i didnt get that vibe, but it maybe because the suspects are to close to her....
with the investigation into the murder of a successful business woman underway, the investigations stalls at several points but its the murder of another business woman that really brings it home for the police
hopefully the next book in this series i will get a better feel for the female leading character because i felt at times she was the rookie and trent was the lead
Another great addition to the series. I have read all the previous books and enjoyed them immensely so was expecting this to be just as good. I was not disappointed and am looking forward to reading more.
When a woman is found dead in a cabin in the woods, Detective Amanda Steele and her partner catch the case. While not sure if it is a murder yet, they start investigating as if it is. Amanda discovers the woman’s husband is someone from her distant past, but she doesn’t think that will impair her judgement of the case. While chasing down leads and suspects, a woman dies in front of the detectives as they are questioning her. Is it the same killer, or a coincidence…it is discovered thru toxicology that both women were poisoned by the same drug. Both women had received death threats. But who would want both women dead….
Carolyn Arnold's Amanda Steele Series keeps building so much momentum... wow! Ms Arnold has taken her fantastic lead character from basically a lost soul after the death of her husband and daughter, and creation such a multi-dimensional, flawed, and fabulous heroine. Her Frozen Cry goes deep into Amanda's past. A very successful woman is murdered, and her husband just happens to be someone Amanda has not seen since high school. There's a lot of history to unravel, as well as a complex murder that keeps getting more and more twisted as the story goes. Intertwined with it all is Amanda's personal life, as she navigates her adopted daughter and perhaps, more than professional feelings for her partner. It's a must read!
Detective Amanda Steele must find the killer of a high profile businesswoman. The case is made all the more complicated as the prime suspect is the detective’s old friend. There are red herrings aplenty and great police procedural details, which lend credibility but are not overdone so as to weigh down the pacing. The main character Detective Steele is highly likeable, having suffered tragedy and loss she is still positive and caring. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
Thank you so much Bookouture, NetGalley and Carolyn (and her team) for the opportunity to read this mystery series.
My first Carolyn’s book was Girl On The Run which belongs to Detective Madison Knight series. Detective Knight is one of my favorite fictional characters. This time I have to add another favorite detective to my list…which is Detective Amanda Steele.
This mystery story set in a locked cabin, a successful business woman found dead there, alone. The detectives started to investigate from her closest, husband Tony. Then spread to her business related parties….until one of the business competitors jabbed poisoned. But still the evidences pointed to Tony?
Again, I felt like accompanying with Detective Steele to solve the case. Her personality was calm, detailed-mind and a touch of sentimental.
I enjoy reading this book a lot. If you are looking for good quality mystery/detective story, you will find this fit your expectation.
I guess it would be hard to have to think that an old friend could commit murder. That is what Amanda is dealing with in this book. Pretty good twist and turns. I hope this series does does not make Trent and Amanda a couple. I feel they would be better off as just partners. Just my opinion
I love the Amanda Steele series and this book was no exception. I really enjoy the way that the author blends a central story around Amanda’s personal life and although I was hoping for a little bit more advancement in Amanda’s story, I found that the central story was really interesting as well. Already looking forward to the next book in the series.
Another intriguing case in the Amanda Steele series from Carolyn Arnold. Amanda's come a long way from the first book, with a partner (to whom she's suddenly feeling attracted!), a recently adopted daughter, and renewed connections to her formerly estranged family. Amanda is stunned to find that a former flame is the victim's husband, and must navigate her personal feelings with the evidence that points to him. Full of twists and turns that will leave you hungry for the next one!
Thanks to Bookoutre for access to a digital ARC on NetGalley.
A digital ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and Bookouture. The opinions are my own and freely given.
This starts, with a woman in a cabin who suddenly becomes ill and dies somewhat peacefully. Detective Amanda Steele and her partner Detective Trent Stenson investigates her suspicious death, leaning towards being a murder investigation. Then someone else that they have questioned in the original death, dies in front of them.
I will say that I suspected the murderer from the beginning and although I did have my doubts as the investigation led on, I was still right. (For once). That being said, this was not a predictable story and that did not turn me off of reading it. I think this is another solid installment in this series. Thank you, Carolyn Arnold, and Bookouture.
This is a amazing book, the fifth in Carolyn Arnold’s Amanda Steele series. I have loved all the books in this series and Her Frozen Cry was just as great as her previous books. It really kept me guessing till the end and I couldn’t put it down till i finished it. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this advanced copy.
Detective Amanda Steele has another challenging case. A woman is found dead locked in a cabin with no apparent cause, leaving the possibility of suicide. The situation is complicated by the fact that the deceased husband was once a close friend of Amanda's, whom she has not seen since her husband died. When the autopsy reveals that the woman was poisoned, the search for the killer becomes a priority. Swimming through a sea of adultery, greed, and lies, Amanda and her partner search for answers to bring the perp to justice. It's a great book, and I look forward to the next installment.
A well known local woman is found dead in the cabin that she has rented. Is this a natural death or something more sinister?Detective Amanda Steele & her partner Trent Stenson have to notify the family of her passing but it is about to get complicated. The dead woman’s husband is someone from her past and she isn’t too sure how she is going to handle this one. She wants to believe that Tony wouldn’t have hurt his wife Alicia but she doesn’t know him anymore.
Now that it is homicide Amanda has now choice but to dig into Tony & Alicia’s life and she finds many unanswered questions. Who wanted Alicia dead? When someone else close to the case is murdered they have to go after Tony as everyone else has been looked at.
But do they have the right person?
Amanda was conflicted about Tony & their past but she still did the right thing. I do feel for her as she is trying so hard to keep her home life stable but she can only do her best. Trent tries to be there for Amanda but she has a habit of trying to push him away. I do wonder what his feelings are for her.
The series only gets better especially as we see everyone grow around us.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher Bookouture for the ARC copy. This is my voluntary review
