This call-to-action handbook is perfect for young environmentalists and thalassophiles (ocean lovers).

The Ocean Hero Handbook is an intriguing nonfiction book with seven chapters that present specific issues that the ocean faces and then shares what we can do to change the issue and why it is important for us to do so. The chapters, which cover an array of issues each, includes 'indoor', 'outdoor', 'transport', 'on holiday', 'at work', 'food & shopping', and 'clothes'.

Learn how to reduce your carbon footprint and cut back single-use plastics. Find alternatives to waste products that clog up our waterways, learn how to reduce carbon emissions cut back on harmful chemicals. Learn about what is destroying our land, coastlines, and waterways, and how they directly affect the ocean and the ecosystems of all the above. There's a plethora of topics from all walks of life on this planet, all aimed at helping readers be the heroes and heroines that the ocean is desperately in need of.

If you'd like to learn more about how we impact the earth and oceans and what you can do to make a difference, this is a great choice. I recommend it to middle-grade age readers and older.

This is a really great, informative guide that shiws us how we can affect the health of our oceans for the better and the worse.

With a lovely illustration style, this easy to read book gives the reader practical ways that they can help clean up and protect our oceans.

I think this would be a great book for a family or household to read to together and to commit to working towards making small and big changes to their daily lives.

Personally, i feel that although this is quite an amazing book and covers a lot of information in an understandable way (for older children and adults), it is not a resource i would use in a primary school setting.

The book is broken down into manageable chunks of information and breaks down the major issue of ocean conservation, but i would love to have seen it written in a way that was more engaging for primary/ upper school children and with illustrations and relatable content as the way it reads just makes it feel like a lot of heavy information written on the page.

I did however really like that the book was broken into different categories with simple to follow steps for all people to take to help reduce the pollution caused by plastics.

All I can say is brava to Tessa Wardley and Melanie!

This book is incredibly valuable and I'm grateful for how well it was executed. It is clearly organized with thoughtful fluidity and structure, infused with concise messaging and heartstring pulling graphics.

As a big fan of Melanie Johnsson (the illustrator) and as someone who is a creative advisor/graphic designer for a marine science company tackling microplastic pollution, I could not be more excited for the publication of this book!

The Ocean Hero Handbook is an excellent introduction to ocean conservation and the impacts of anthropogenic activity on marine health. The book also offers great research and practical solutions for readers!

As a writer and environmental science student myself, I'm thrilled to see books like this one taking centre stage. This book is a reminder of the value our oceans provide us, and it helps to build hope and strength for a brighter future in terms of biodiversity preservation and regeneration.

As readers discover their role in protecting global oceans, The Ocean Hero Handbook encourages them to take simple, actionable steps in their own lives that together can help to improve ocean health. This book doesn't sit back and assume someone else will do the work. Instead, it empowers every reader to join the mission for marine life.

For readers young and old, The Ocean Hero Handbook is wonderfully written and a fantastic eco-living resource!

This is not a children’s book. The Ocean Hero Handbook is a small book about a huge topic — how do we ensure a healthy ocean?

Fortunately, author Tessa Wardley breaks the topic down into seven manageable chunks and explains for each the issue, what we can do about it, and why it matters. The seven topic chunks or chapters are Indoors, Outdoors, Transport, On Holiday, At Work, Food & Shopping and Clothes. In each chapter Wardley includes concrete actions readers can take in their own lives to effect change.

Don’t let the bright colors and illustrations fool you, The Ocean Hero Handbook is a manifesto for each of us through our own individual efforts to collectively save and protect the earth’s oceans.

Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group Ivy Press, for the advance reading copy.

The book is well packed with upto date information regarding pollution caused by plastics, what we can do about it both indoors and outdoors. The information is detailed and the illustrations are basic. However, considering the target audience I would have loved the book more if the presentation was a bit fun with less sentences arranged here and there. Otherwise it looks like a textbook while reading with the kids.

Overall, a good book for educational purposes.
