Lies, lies and more lies. Oh my goodness I can’t think when I’ve read a book where the main plot involves so many lies and then trusting the most inept people to be a part of the lies you’re telling others. I will start by saying this is the fifth book in a series but can be read as a standalone. I read and liked the second book but evidently haven’t kept up with this small town romance series. This one did not sit well with me and I kept waiting for the author to save it but that didn’t happen for me.

Brianna MacLeod almost died the previous year and is recovering from injuries and will be divorced any day. She’s come home to Highland Falls but is being smothered by her sister's attention. She ends up moving into a rental not knowing her old boyfriend Caleb Scott, whom she was engaged to, lives a few doors away. And his sister is going to be her new roommate. Turns out he’s “separated” from his current wife but they are living together as they are both doctors and want the local hospital to get the new trauma center they both want. They are also concerned about their teenage daughter who didn’t like the idea of them splitting up. Well it turns out that Caleb and Brianna learn they broke up over lies and now he can’t keep his lips off hers. Literally they don’t work at getting to know each other now after 11 years. It is jump right back to full on love. And then to top it off Bri is also a therapist and proceeds to counsel the sister, the wife of her not divorced boyfriend, their teenage daughter and even her own parents. It is over the top ridiculous. And in all that counseling no one ever thought to say come clean about all the lies. By the 90 percent mark I was angry I was still reading and the lies were still coming. And the ending did not resolve my issues with the storyline.

The last book I read by the author was a sweet Christmas romance so I know she can write. The cover gets a star for being adorable. I was going to go with 2 stars but I also take down a star for cheating. If you’re not divorced you’re not free to date. Obviously others are going to have differing opinions. This is a clean book for language. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing).

I enjoyed this book. It was fun to read it and I liked how it talked about different characters and their lives. It was funny and heartwarming. Other than a few typos I think this is the best book Debbie Mason wrote this year. I am grateful that netgalley let me read this in exchange for an honest review..
