While I loved this book, I wanted more from the love of the characters!! I thought that they were fine, but not GREAT. I also thought that the book could have been a little bit longer and more fleshed out. I think that the best books have a great balance of witty banter and angst. I loved the reality TV aspect and it was cute story. loved the setting because I had not read anything set in the cascades yet. The characters were very well written and their banter was top notch. Overall I can't wait to read the next one!
A Massive Thank You to the Author, the Publisher and NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this book prior to its release date.
Third person is something I struggle with when reading books and along with the writing, I had to stop about 10% my way through. I definitely was intrigued by the storyline and thought there was a ton of potential, but it wasn’t for me. Thank you NetGallery for the ARC!
I wanted to love this but ultimately had to DNF it because Easton rubbed me the wrong way which is a shame because the premise sounded awesome!
This was a fun read. I was really excited about the premise behind this story, but the characters fell a little flat for me. They seemed kind of one note, and I found myself wishing for more character development along the way. I also thought the mistakes and decisions that the two main characters made in regards to their relationship were kind of silly and not believable. That being said, I still smiled and overall enjoyed this book!
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Crush in the Cascades seemed a little familiar to me. Maybe it's because of the whole game show aspect and how I'm knee deep into Survivor. Either way, I was here for it all because of Easton and Amity. Now at first, they were definitely not into each other once they started speaking that is. Then the challenge started to happen, and they were getting closer and closer to one another.
Sure, they bickered like crazy but damn that is my love language. Sarcasm and bantering - what a lovely duo to fall in love with. As for reality tv, eh, it was okay competition wise. I liked seeing them interacting with other contestants, but I was mostly here for their bantering. I'll admit, though, I wasn't a huge fan of everyone assuming the worst about someone or how they lived their lives before coming on the show to compete.
In a way, it worked out though because these two truly did fall for each other. Sure, Cooper was a douche canoe in the beginning, but he came around...eventually. Definitely excited for his sister to compete next. No idea who could be her potential love interest but I'm hoping for some great bantering!
This review is over a year late but: Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!
Rating 3.25!
Survivor type show mixed with a little dating reality show drama, I ate it up! I'm not them biggest fan of insta-love & possessiveness, and I found Cooper was a little awkward when he and Amity first decided to become an "item".
Did I read 50% of this and put it down for about a year...yes -- did I plow through the last 50% in one day a year later...also yes. This to say that I didn't forget what happened in the first 50% - it's pretty memorable and unique! Plus, I love Survivor.
Easton Cooper you have my mf heart. My new favorite romcom couple. I adored this book. I physically could not put it down. This one is going to be big.
3.5 stars. This is a rom-com set in a "reality" competition show. Even though I steer clear of that genre of TV, I had a good time with this book! Amity and Easton are contestants, and they definitely don't get off to a good start. As the game challenges progress, competition strategies and team alliances clash with their growing attraction to each other. The problem is that both of them make assumptions about the other that might stand in the way of their romance. As with lots of books, it's not always realistic, but I don't mind that at all. The mountain adventures that were part of the competition were described very well and were really fun to read about. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the chance to read this book.
"Crush in the Cascades" by Lisa S. Gayle is a romance novel that follows the story of Amity and Easton, two characters who are brought together by reality TV. As a fan of enemies-to-lovers stories, I appreciated the tension and animosity between the two main characters, and the setting of the Cascades provided a beautiful backdrop for their developing relationship. The plot was a bit predictable, and the characters felt very sterotypical The story is enjoyable and if you're looking for an easy/cute read I do recommend.
Overall, "Crush in the Cascades" is a light and easy read that may appeal to fans of the romance genre, particularly those who enjoy a classic love story and reality TV. However, if you are looking for a more complex and nuanced romance with deep characters and unpredictable plot twists, this book may not satisfy your needs. Despite its flaws, I did enjoy my time reading this book, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and simple romance read.
It's been a while since I read a good romcom. I love enemies to lovers. Even tho it was difficult for me to connect with the characters, it was entertaining.
I received this book for free for an honest review.
So fun and sexy. Wonderful read and great for my camping trip. So happy with it.
Thanks to Netgalley for this edition for review.
I found this a really easy read. Easton and Amity are participating in a outdoorsy- reality TV programme. This is an enemies-to-lovers story, fun-filled romcom. There are many misunderstandings to create the tension between the two lead characters as their connection builds. It is a lot of fun, a bit silly and that's fine.
There were a lot of frustrating events here, but I'll just summarize them. The characters are all terrible; I despise them all.
Was not a big fan of the toxic masculinity and casual misogyny. The main character also was really wish washy and i felt exhausted reading this. Not a fan.
This wasn’t the best in terms of an enemies to lovers trope. I felt like he was so horrible and by the end I didn’t really believe the feelings they’d gathered. A lot of miscommunication but that’s normal in romance books. Not the worst though, there were cute moments and it was very readable. I liked the style and feel I’d probably read more by the author in the future.
I love the enemies to lovers trope. Throw in a reality show-let's go! The problem was, I just really didn't like Easton. Like at all. And i couldn't connect with either main character.
I started this book loving the first couple of chapters and really enjoying the characters. But by the 4 or 5 chapter, I was annoyed and irritated with them. I felt like the guy was a complete jerk and they both complained way to much for me. I ended up finishing the book to find out ending I just didn't really enjoy the characters. Might have just been where I am in my life and might need to reread at a later time.
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I loved the fast pace of this book, just perfect for when you want to a quick romance.
Easton and amity are the epitome of opposites attract.
I did enjoy this book but feel like the characters could have more of a description and back story.
When Easton and Amity meet - it is pretty clear that they are opposites in just about every way - except for maybe their competitive nature. They are competing on an adventure reality show that involves a LOT of running and survivor style competitions. They are both there for vastly different reasons. Amity - to prove something to herself and Easton - purely for the cash prize - so he can help a friend. From early on - it becomes really clear that they are not only the front runners for the competition but also that their fiery reactions to each other is more than just competition.
Amity was not a super likeable heroine. She had a lot of rough edges and wasn't particularly nice. For me - I'm not sure she was 100% rehabbed into someone I cared about by the end of the book. Even with how things ended - I am just not sure that she didn't bring a lot of it on herself. But I may be in the minority there. The other issue is that even as noble as Easton's intentions were - I am not sure he ended up being someone I truly liked either.
Overall - this was a fun story - but it didn't strike an emotional chord with me.
I received this as an ARC via NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
