I am so impressed with these book club kits. They are well thought out, beautifully designed, and detailed. I'm very excited to hop into All My Rage.
This is an incredible resource to complement All My Rage. As an educator, I plan to utilize this with my students. I cannot wait to reread this powerful book next fall.
This is a great resource for high school teachers! I hope to use this next year (2023-2024) with my 11th graders.
Perfect for school librarians and/or teachers looking for a ready made kit for hosting book clubs and/or book tastings. The letter to the reader is perfect for introductions and the discussion questions are perfect to prompt discussion. I have found playlists that accompany novels are popular amongst my students and the premade list for this novel is perfect. I feel that this kit has provided enough materials including bookmarks with appealing graphic designs to a recipe for tea for me to successfully host a book club and I like that resources were provided and a great way to provide support if needed for the topics found in the book.
Thanks to NetGalley for this Book Club Kit. I found this to be a great package for a book club discussion
After finishing this short but sweet kit, I feel it added to the reading experience and provided lots of topics for discussion among readers.
The author's interview is really great. It was nice to know the person behind the story, and I loved the insight into her writing process.
I think content warnings are always appreciated. We can never be too prepared when starting a new novel and when it comes to triggers it's better to be overly aware.
The other elements in the book club kit, such as the playlist, further book recommendations and recipes, would be perfect for an in-person book club. The extra book recommendations were great too. The reader questions opened up a discussion about the characters, plot and setting. I appreciated the ways a reader could access support if they were struggling. I think no matter your age just knowing you have access to support is always appreciated.
The only thing that may not be successful is presuming people are attending in-person book clubs when in reality, social media and virtual book clubs are more popular and prevalent in the book community, especially since Covid-19. The digital space among readers has exploded, so I think targeting the online community is very beneficial.
Not quite sure how to review this one as it's a summary and sort of guide to All My Rage, Seeing as a I haven't read the full book itself I'm not 100% about the usefulness of this but it looked well structured and thought-out. It also did make me more keen to read the book!
Great book club questions! This is a must if you are reading this book and love discussion questions. I love the additional recipes in here!
The All My Rage Book Club kit contains everything needed to make great book club meetings! The kit contains printable and reproducible bookmarks, letter from the author, author's notes, content warning, list of resources to contact if help is needed, author interview, a playlist from the book, discussion questions and two recipes!
All My Rage is an absolute must-read!
Sal 17, lives in Juniper, California with his sick mother and alcoholic father. Sal attends school while trying to help keep the family hotel afloat. Sal and Noor, 18, were best friends until they had a fight months ago and haven’t spoken since. Sal’s mom collapses and needs to be taken to the hospital while Noor happens to be visiting her. Sal’s mother passes away and her last words to Noor were to forgive. Sal and Noor try to mend their friendship but they’re both keeping secrets and trying to persevere through their own harsh situations. When life implodes, they both have to make some tough choices.
Likes/dislikes: I enjoyed learning about Pakistani culture and its languages. The author gives a comprehensive, concise content warning at the beginning of the book and lists resources at the end for help with domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, immigration and refugee rights, children’s defense fund, and women of color. I appreciate how the author portrayed harsh realities to readers in a way that is educational and with empathy but not graphic. This book is a must read.
Language: R for 147 swears and 3 f-bombs.
Mature Content: PG for brief undescribed kiss, drug dealer selling pills, mention of marijuana (weed), deeper kiss.
Violence: PG-13 for child abuse (a push against the wall), bloody face from abuse, kicking ribs, mentions of repressed sexual assault, continued abuse.
Ethnicity: Sal and Noor and their family members are Pakistani living in a predominantly white community. There is a Pakistani religious leader and his wife is Black. The Judge is Mexican American and the story contains mixed ethnicity police officers.
The Book Club Kit for All My Rage provide comprehensive and in-depth resources. The recipe and printable bookmarks were a lovely surprise for my library's Discord book club. A letter from the author is always special and Sabaa Tahir's really emphasized how important this story is to her. The questions allowed the group to dig deep into the discussion of this character driven novel. We all loved the addition of a playlist - music always helps with truly feeling a book's vibes. Overall a very solid book club kit and I look forward to trying out more of them with my group!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of book for review.
First of all, yes- I had an ebook sent by Netgalley but I've decided also to listen to parts of it in an audiobook format as I've heard great opinions about that version. I completely agree- the audiobook is amazingly done, I feel like all 3 of the narrators were great and added even more emotions to the story.
Also, an important fact- the book deals with quite a lot of heavy topics, so definitely look up the trigger warnings before deciding to read it.
To be honest, I primarily (and almost exclusively) read fantasy and sci-fi. This was a big step out of my comfort zone and I'm glad I've decided to try it. I almost feel underqualified to talk about this book with how much it has hit me feeling-wise.
We have three main narrations: two for teenagers 'now' and one of one of their parents from some time ago. They were all interesting for me and wove together well.
It's hard for me to even say that I've enjoyed the plot, as I feel that 'enjoyment' isn't a word that would be applicable here. My emotions got hit by a bus with this book, and honestly I couldn't see myself reading books like this one often because all of the feelings. I feel like I have gotten to know these characters really well, hoped with them and felt pain with them. I think that even recalling this book will stir lots of emotions in me for a long time.
I have finished 'All my Rage' in around 1,5 day because I couldn't stop reading.
I recommend this book really much, but I would advise for you to check trigger warnings and be prepared for a heart-wrenching journey.
I LOVE the book club kits, they really help with finding fun tasks to do with your club friends, the discussion questions were amazing in this kit! Also, beautiful bookmarks, I always print them and give them to the book club people, before it was a surprise, now they are waiting for the present hahaha! This time we didn't test the recipes, but they look amazing! Thank you 'We Are Bookish' for that!
The perfect book club pack - my work book club really enjoyed this read and this helped to facilitate a meaningful conversation too! Everyone loved the recipes too! I wish all books came with a guide like this!
This was a great kit to use for my teen book club. I loved that there were discussion questions, and they loved getting the bookmarks. I didn't end up using the recipes, but this is great that it's included.
When it came to this book club kit for All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir, my advise for whoever is hosting the discussion for this book is to look it over before, during, and after reading All My Rage. I personally love it when authors include any content or trigger warnings that might leave an unpleasant feeling in readers' minds. And of course, questions were insightful and not yes/or no questions. They prompt thinking and can bring members closer, especially the two questions suggested by Tahir. And truly do recommend listening to the music Sabaa Tahir curated for her book, especially during planned reading sprints if reading with a classroom or with teens. These activities included are such fun to try with family, and such delicious meals. And something that I really like, especially as a teacher who uses the book club kits to guide discussions for my students is being able to recommend novels for students to read if they enjoyed All My Rage.
This book club kit is every teacher and parent's dream. As a middle school teacher, I could confidently give any question or recommendation to my students without question. I could see myself also incorporating these in my own book club or my students’ book clubs in class.
Downloaded this on a whim after finishing the book and it's actually such a cool companion that left me thinking about the story even more. Loved the extra content like the playlist and recipes too!
This was such a powerful novel from start to finish. The book club kit was one of my fave thus far. I even loved the recipe listed. It a little longer than most over 20 pages and the discussion questions were really good for a great open dialogue.
Thanks to the author and publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to access this Book Club kit. This comprehensive 22 page kit contains discussion questions, recipes, and even cut out bookmarks to print at home LOL. I liked the recommendations of other books at the end.
All My Rage is such an eloquent, powerful novel. The book club kit truly enhances the experience of reading this story with engaging, helpful materials that give it additional depth. I truly recommend downloading this kit if you plan to read All My Age for an upcoming book club. It won't disappoint!
