I LOVE romantic suspense and this book delivered!! It was glued to my finger tips the entire weekend, I did not want to put it down!!! There are definitely some triggering topics discussed throughout, so definitely look those up before reading! But overall, such an addicting and intoxicating book!! I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy!
Buried Deception is a wild ride for readers, so buckle up romantic suspense fans. Amanda McKinney once again weaves a tale that is twisted with the unexpected that will keep readers glued to this book. This book is well-written and the characters are spectacular. Mia is a therapist, hiding secrets of her own. Easton is ex-military and now runs a business training tracking techniques to military and police. Easton and Mia's story is cover to cover drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I loved every page! I look forward to my next book by Amanda McKinney. Buried Deception is book 1 of the On The Edge Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Holy freaking crap! She’s done it again with a gripping, suspenseful, lots of mystery, emotional, tons of twists and turns, and one hot tactical training guy that leaves you wanting more, story. Amanda McKinney has a new series out and I’m hooked already. This book will probably have some triggers that will affect those who have had a traumatic past, but it’s so well worth the read. Thought I had it pegged from the beginning, then got further into the book and tagged another person, and couldn’t get to the end fast enough to finally reveal who the real sicko was, and wasn’t who I thought it was at all, that’s darn good writing. Loved Easton and Mia’s chemistry, and the LYNX guys are to die for. Goldie was adorable, and loved Lou. This story had so many twists and turns in it it truly left you exhausted at the end. Loved (sometimes cringed) every bit of the story and am very much looking forward to the next installment.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Brilliant! Bloody Brilliant!
After a string of gruesome assaults that are eerily similar to one psychologist, Dr. Mia Frost experienced years earlier, Mia begins to fear they could be committed by the same person. Mia works with patients who have experienced PTSD. In addition, she often helps authorities by developing profiles on suspects of crimes.
Easton Crew is the founder of The LYNX Group. A combat training and tracking company with highly trained men, most with special ops experience. They also provide a volunteer search and rescue team when requested by the authorities.
As victims go missing and the number of attacks increase, Mia and Easton begin working together to help the authorities search for the suspect dubbed the Black Cat Stalker.
As their investigation continues, Mia suffers several attacks by whom she suspects is the Black Cat Stalker. But are they actually by Black Cat? Could Mia’s repressed traumatic memories of her attack be involved? Memories and the lack thereof are a funny thing.
Will she and Easton be able to find the identity of the Black Cat Stalker or will Mia’s lack of memories of her own assault place her front and center of these crimes?
Captivating characters who are perfect in their imperfections.
What a wild ride! McKinney proves once again she is the queen of unique, intriguing and suspenseful mysteries with the perfect balance of romance that doesn’t overpower the story. Bravo!!
Warning — don’t start reading this book if you don’t have time to finish it in the same day! I started this at 8 pm and couldn’t make myself set it down and go to bed until I finished it.
Those with triggers regarding violence and sexual assault should be aware that those two things drive them main plot points of this novel.
Buried Deception was a great mix of action, crime, psychological thriller, and romance. Dr. Mia Frost is a renowned psychologist known for her work with hypnotherapy and patients dealing with PTSD and disassociative amnesia. Little does the world know that she believes herself a fraud, struggling silently with the effects of her own trauma. There’s very little I love more in a thriller (or any book, really) than an unreliable narrator. The author did an amazing job creating a steadfast, successful character and slowly peeling back those layers to the point that the reader is doubting her word.
The male lead, Easton Crew, is the perfect alpha romance hero. He runs his own company devoted to search and rescue but is also a man of mystery. He is fiercely protective but also empathetic and soft mannered when it counts.
I really hope the author plans to write more books in this world. I’d love to see adventures focused on Crew’s colleagues.
I just didn’t want this book to end. In her trademark style Amanda McKinney delivers a sizzling hot psychological suspense thriller. The characters were amazing and the storyline engrossing. It was so hard to put this book down! Part suspense, part mystery, part romance but 100% amazing!
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
This book has suspense and intrigue from page 1. It unfolds in the best way. It pulls you in and leaves you guessing. Easton is also a perfect broken Alpha male and Mia is just the guy to heal him. He has to first break through her secrets because she just might be the key to helping solve who is behind the brutal attacks that have their small town on high alert. This book has the perfect balance of action, suspense and romance. I can’t wait to read the next installments in this series as this is a must read book.
I was able to read this for free thanks to Net Galley, although that does not affect my opinion of the actual book. I picked this book up after falling in love with the cover, title, and description. Unfortunately, it took me a couple of chapters to really get into it. I know I’m not the smartest person to exist, however the author used quite a few words that made no sense to me and probably could have been changed for an easier read. There was also a lot of bad language, which I don’t think was necessary every time. The chemistry between the two main characters didn’t feel right either. This book was a miss for me.
'Buried Deception' is hauntingly creepy and fascinating, with twisted secrets and a hint of burning romance.
This book contains trigger warnings (ptsd, mental disorders, panic attacks, rape, death, sexual battery, sodomy and etc). Please look for it before picking this up.
A brief synopsis of the book :
The evidence points to the notorious Black Cat Stalker after a young woman is viciously assaulted on a popular hiking trail. Skull Hollow hires Dr. Mia Frost to conduct a psychological profile and aid with the investigation.
When another person mysteriously disappears, Mia teams up with Easton Crew, a former marine who is now the CEO of a tactical tracking firm. Mia and Easton are both stubborn, strong-willed, and self-sufficient, but neither can deny their smouldering attraction.
As professional lines blur, Easton begins to doubt Mia's motives and fears she is becoming too involved in the investigation. As the mystery unravels, Mia's mental health suffers as the clues unearth her own tormented history.
Things I love :
- The exquisite and captivating writing! Need I say more?
- The horrifying potrayals of the mysteries, nothing pulls me in than a great depiction of chilling plots.
- The explanation on PTSD and other mental illnesses which I found very informative and interesting to learn more.
Things I think can improve :
- The romance, it was a little off (a bit forced i think) and bland especially their conversations in the early chapters. I didn't buy the chemistry between them, not until at least half of ths book. Fortunately, their relationship improves a lot after that and it convinced me a bit more on their romance.
Wow, I went into this book blind and was taken aback several times. There needs to be strong sexual assault, anxiety, and rape content warnings! The plot was great and I didn’t pick up the villain until the end of the book. I read it in every nook and cranny of my day - thrilling. The characters were plentiful but I was able to easily keep track of the main players and their backgrounds.
In the pulse-racing first installment of the On the Edge series, a criminal psychologist teams up with a former marine on a deadly wildland mission. Well crafted characters, an underlying sense of menace and an immersive narrative combine for a suspenseful, one sit read.
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for an ARC of this book!
This had so much potential but fell flat for me. The mystery part of the book was really well done and interesting, but the romance was lacking for me. There wasn't much of a romantic buildup and I felt like the mcs had no chemistry, I also couldn't get over that he spied on her for a while before he met her- so creepy.
Buried Deception is one of Amanda McKinney’s best ever. As always, her writing is superb and keeps you in suspense the whole read. Her characters are well-developed and sympathetic so you find yourselves rooting for them despite their flaws. Can’t wait for more in this vein!
Wow. What an emotional ride right from the very first chapter. Amanda never disappoints with any of her book. This book had me so hooked I could not stop reading. I absolutely loved it.

loved it but way too much language.
When a young woman is attacked while out for a jog, the town quickly believes this to be the work of the Black Cat Stalker. The stalker has been praying on and attacking a young woman while they are out on a local trail. Dr. Mia Frost is called in to assist with the case and provide a psychological profile. Easton Crew is the CEO of a tactical tracking company and is assisting on the case. Dr.Frost and Easton work together to find the stalker, while Easton believes Mia is hiding something. Can the two find the stalker before time runs out?
I loved this book! It was a story of strong woman and the race against time. Easton and Mia were such a power couple and I am hoping for this to become a series. The only issues I had were the strong language and sexual content. I found the language to be unnecessary and overused. The sexual content could have been toned down. Fingers crossed for a continuing series!
I was hooked from the beginning of this story, it completely gripped me. With a missing teen, LYNX security is on the case with Easton leading the crew. This ex military hero is the perfect man to lead the search and when him and Mia make a connection I know it is going to get good. Secrets are uncovered and as the plot thickens you will find yourself flipping page after page. While this story doesn't have much spice, the suspense is top notch! A great start to a new series.
A good book that kept me interested throughout. Strong chapters and characters. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you NG and Montlake for the chance to read.
I received this book free from NetGalley and I am so excited that I got it early.
First let me start by saying I LOVE this author. I have read every book that Amanda McKinney has written and they don't get old. She has this talent of being able to pull me into a story and I don't want to put the book down till I finish it. I blame many late nights on her!! This book was no exception.
Mia is a therapist with some secrets of her own and she like a lot of therapists went into this profession for a personal reason. Some things get a little to close to home with some events that have happened from who they call the Black Cat Stalker. So, she reaches out to Easton for help.
This really shows how much a rape can affect a person and the emotion that they go through while trying to deal with it. The story had me going and guessing who the murderer was. I almost had it figured out, but not quite! The characters are well developed and you become attached to Mia and want her to face her demons!
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good suspenseful book.
I devoured this book! One of those where I stayed up until midnight finishing. I haven’t read much romantic suspense, but this pulled me in immediately. There’s a lot of background, both with psychology/PTSD, tracking, etc. but I never found it boring. The book was a really great mix of romance, suspense, “detective” work - it had a great balance. Major trigger warnings though - sexual assault, child sexual assault, child abuse, stalking, etc. I appreciated that since there was such detail of the sexual assaults the romantic sex scene was pretty much fade to black. I really enjoyed reading this and look forward to continuing the series! Thank you to Montlake and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
First, I want to say that I love all of Amanda McKinney's books, because she is one of my favorite authors. This book is definitely different than her other books, but still very good. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out who did it, and just when I thought I knew, I had to rethink it. This is a very suspenseful book that kept my interest and had me wanting more. I can't wait for future books.
