This is the kind of MQ book I absolutely adore. It has the laugh out loud moments that I love mixed in with a whole lot of heart and soul.
Sawyer was the best. I loved how he handled Sully and the difficulties his Alzheimer's presented. Sawyer rolled with the punches and made things a lot easier on Fallon and Sully. The way he went around fixing things was just so sweet and I loved the way he went about it. I wish a little more was done in regards to the wedding he ran away from though. I feel like that was kind of brushed under the rug and not a whole lot was done with it.
I liked Fallon even if she was a bit oblivious at times. Her dedication to her family and her grandfather's cabins was sweet and endearing. I admit I was a little frustrated with her and the whole Peter thing. I felt so bad for him and I hated that she strung him along. I'm not a big fan of love triangles and obviously this was one, but I do ultimately like how it ended.
Overall, the story was fun and interesting. The secondary characters all brought a lot to the story and it was fun any time any of them popped up. Jaz was a bit much most of the time, but I think that's what was somewhat charming about her. I'm curious to see if she's going to get her own book. If you're a Meghan Quinn fan, you don't want to miss this one. It is a quintessential MQ book and I am so here for it.
This is 3.5 stars more than it is 4. At most, it's a high 3. There were parts of this that I really liked, parts that were okay, and parts that made me SO MAD, but overall I just feel like this was longer than it needed to be. I might've been a little peeved because I could sense the almost love triangle before I saw it with my own eyes but once it hit it made me feral. We do not like love triangles in this house. Rest assured, there isn't REALLY one in this one but the vibes were starting to ooze a little and I wasn't feeling it.
I liked Sawyer. I liked the work he put in with Sully and Fallon so much. Especially Sully. There's no denying that he didn't work hard to get into their good graces. This is the slowest slow burn though. I wasn't entirely mad at the story overall. The way this town worked around Sully, making sure he was cared for and Fallon had help, made this much better. I loved how much support Fallon had with her life; it made it feel like a small-town story.
Jaz? Honestly, I could've ripped her right out of the story. She was my least favourite part of this story. She took no filter, act first think later, to a whole new damn level and it was making me feel so crazy. The way she's written was so unbearable and I found myself skimming around the parts she was in. I think she needed to dial it back so many notches.
This wasn't my favourite Meghan Quinn but if you like a small-town romance with a runaway trying to escape his life, I recommend it.
I usually like Meghan Quinn's books but for whatever reason, this one just didn't do it for me. Thanks for the chance to read and review.
4 stars for Runaway Groomsman by Meghan Quinn
TOP TIER HUMOR.
Seriously, I haven't laughed this hard in a while. The amount of pig-like snorts that came out of me is truly concerning.
The plot was GREAT. It involves both present and past events that tie the two MCs together. While it isn't instant love, there is instant attraction, which makes the story even more sweet.
In terms of addiction-levels, I read the whole book in one sitting, which was about four hours!
Totally recommend to all rom-com lovers.
Thank you to Net Galley for this advanced copy!
Meghan is forever the romcom queen! I loved everything that this book has to offer. I cannot wait to see who she chooses as narrators.
Runaway Groomsman is the story of Sawyer Walsh who finds himself the Groomsman at his Ex's wedding to his best friend - when he realizes this isn't where he should be, he dashes the wedding and ends up in a small town in California where he "meets" Fallon Long.
This small town, second chance , need to save the family business has MQ all over it. Such a great read!
I loved this book. Sawyer is a Hollywood screenwriter who is coerced into being the Best Man for his ex and former best friend's wedding. During the vows, he realizes he cannot support the marriage and walks out in grand fashion. He takes off and drives until he finds a good place to stop. That place is Canoodle, CA. He passes the time at a local bar and eventually has too much to drink. The bartender (Jaz) and her best friend (Fallon) take him over to the Fallon's cabin rentals to sleep it off.
The rest of the story is a slow burn and small town romance.
I loved the characters in the story. They were funny, honest, and endearing. There were many times I laughed out loud at the dialog and parts had me tearing up. I was definitely rooting for the main characters. I loved the epilogue too. It tied the story up nicely.
I want to thank Meghan Quinn, Montlake Romance, and NetGalley for the e-ARC and the opportunity to read and review this novel.
Meghan Quinn is one of my favourite romance writers. Her sports romance series are some of my fave! This felt totally different to her previous work that I’ve read - the romance build up was much longer than normal and this seemed like more of a contemporary read and much less explicit than I was used to. Despite this, it was still an enjoyable read and I raced through it just like with all of Meghan’s books. Her world building is also amazing, with every scene and location so easy to imagine!
This was more slow burn than I was expecting from Meghan Quinn. The couple did not have a romantic encounter until nearly 80% of the book. That said, I loved the setting and the characters. Sully is amazing and Sawyer helping him out made the whole book for me! Loved this!
Enjoyable read. A very light-hearted read centered on our 2 main characters in a small-town setting. This was my first Meghan Quinn book and definitely won't be my last. Definitely recommend for a nice summer read!
A heartbroken Hollywood screenwriter visits a small town and falls in love with an inn-owner as they renovate the cabins and he helps her take care of her grandfather with alzheimer's
The vibes here are very classic Hallmark. Readers who enjoy a more old-school romance will find that here: its a bit sappy and cheesy, with a smidge of heat.
Sawyer, a romance screenwriter, finds himself standing at the altar witnessing his ex girlfriend and his best friend getting married. Before he knows it its too much and he's making his great escape. Leaving a shocked congregation, the media and one shoe behind.
Deciding to lie low he ends up in the small town of Canoodle California where he meets Fallon owner of the Canoodle Cove Cabins. Fallen needs help struggling with renovations and looking after her ailing grandfather Sully, Sawyer decides to step in to help without Fallon knowing. Slowly a bond begins to form between Sawyer and Fallon but can they make it work?
This was such a cute romance very slow burn between Sawyer and Fallon and I love a small town where everyone comes together to help each other. I'm glad there was no cheating in this as Fallon has a boyfriend at the beginning of the novel and the breakup between them was done very well.
Sully was by far one of my favourite characters with his alzheimers written so well. His grumpy attitude and the way he wanted to get stuck in with every project Sawyer took on and knowing it was helping him was so good. I enjoyed reading about the ways every character dealt with his diagnosis. Sully and grandma Joan's romance was very cute and I liked the fact that snippets of it were scattered through the story.
I want a story about Jaz and Roarick as I need to know about their romance and how it evolved.
I feel I'm a bit biased as I love everything Meghan Quinn writes but I really enjoyed this it kept me gripped from the first page and I didn't want to put it down. If you love small town romance with some humor and drama thrown in this is definitely for you.
OMG, I have read quite a few of Meghan's book, but this one is by far, my favorite!! Sawyer & Fallon's story has so many ups & downs, with lots of moments that made me laugh out loud & even snort laugh, I actually embarrassed myself in public places a couple times loved, loved loved this book❣️❣️
Sawyer is a movie writer and a forced groomsman to his ex girlfriend and ex best friend’s wedding. During the vows he realizes how ridiculous the situation is and decides to leave the wedding with two middle fingers in the air, leaving Cinderella style. He escapes to a small town called Canoodle where he runs into Fallon, a girl he once went on a blind date with but can not remember her- but she remembers. Fallon is very busy though trying to renovate her grandfathers run down motel cabins, and caring for him while he suffers with Alzheimer’s. Fallon also has a boyfriend Peter that lives a few hours away that spends time with her on the weekends when he is not too busy working as a doctor. Peter loves her and wants more but Fallon just can not commit to saying those three little words. During the week while renovating she realizes little things are getting accomplished without knowing who is doing them. When she finds out who did them her heart turns to mush.
This story is unlike others from Meghan Quinn. It shows the struggles of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s and the battles of being in the wrong relationship. This is definitely a very slow burn compared to her usual spicy stories. My emotions got the best of me a few times while reading this. The love grandpa Sully had for his deceased wife grandma Joan but due to his condition he kept forgetting she was gone. It broke my heart. I did enjoy the special mentions of many of her previous books and characters. It was exciting to hear about books I have loved from her in the past.
Love Meghan Quinn and love this small town romance of Sawyer and Fallon!
This book was so good. Sawyer leaves his ex-girls friends wedding and winds up in Fallon’s small town.
I love the story, how strong Fallon is, how much she loves her family and friends. She’s helping her grandfather.
Some of my favorite parts are with her grandfather and Sawyer. It’s a great read!!
While I normally love a MQ's writing this one missed the mark for me and felt more like women's fiction than her typical romantic comedy style writing. We are set up with a Julia Robert's Runaway Bride vibe for this story where Sawyer, the MMC, leaves his ex's wedding in spectacular fashion and finds himself back in his home town where he runs in with Fallon, whom he had previously been seeing. I truly loved Sawyer's character in this one, but Fallon felt a little flat for me and when they finally got together it felt rushed. It was a *very* slow burn and there was really no sizzle when we got to the action that we normally expect from MQ. The side characters were amazing and I loved them. Overall, it was a good read and had a lot of potential, but felt like it was lacking the chemistry I expect from this author and the last 30% of the book felt rushed to me.
Another writing hit from Quinn!! Runaway Groomsman was funny but was also packed with charm!
Sawyer has not had the best of luck lately and when he finally snaps he storms out a wedding which puts him on the run!! He runs to a quiet little town that turns out to be more than he could imagine!! Fallon is a fighter and loves her family deeply! As she restores her grand fathers cabins while caring for him she has to make choices, some harder than others!!
I loved how strong sawyer was and how much of a soft soul he truly was! Together him and Fallon had me smiling like a cheeser!
From the first chapter alone, you really feel just as awkward as Sawyer is feeling, standing at the alter but as a best man and not the groom. I love the bond that Fallon and Jaz have, as well as Sawyer and Sully. Being a fan of Meghan Quinn, I loved the subtle references to her other books! Sawyer’s POV was so interesting to me since he’s a writer. Getting into his mind and understanding how he interprets his reality was really mind opening. This one is definitely less steamy than most of her other books, but I didn’t seem to notice much due to being wrapped up in the story. The full circle ending is one I don’t think I’ll ever forget.
This story was such a pleasant surprise! Written in the vein of Quinn's Highland Fling, this book incorporates humor, romance and a more serious story line. Runaway Groomsman starts with multiple laugh out loud moments, but as the book continues, the reader encounters relatable issues and family struggles. It is this combo, the laughs mixed with the tears, that makes Quinn an auto-buy author for me.
This book deals with topics of Alzheimer's and cheating.
This book also has a unique look at a type of second-chance romance.
This book is perfection. I loved every second of it and I can’t recommend it enough.
The characters are so hilarious and the main ones are quirky, reliable and so true to themselves. I loved their interaction, their fears and inner thoughts. There’s always a small spark between them and that spark will catch fire in no time throughout this story.
A story about second chances at life, decisions and the main goal, love. A well deserved happily ever after.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the ARC 8n exchange of an honest review.
First of all, how gorgeous is the cover??
The Runaway Groomsman is was so much fun. Filled with humor, flirting and steam.
I loved the concept and was totally entertained by it.
Looking forward to more books by Meghan Quinn.
