Sawyer Walsh is a groomsman in his best friend’s wedding. The crazy part is that his best friend is marrying his ex girlfriend. He makes a scene at the ceremony and runs out. He ends up in a small town Canoodle, California in hopes of laying low. He ends up staying at some family owned cabins. This is where he meets Fallon who is running the cabins and caring for her grandfather Sully. Sawyer ends up helping Fallon with renovations on the cabin so that they can have more reservations and keep the cabins open. Of course they will end up extremely close. I did enjoy this book and it was my first time reading a book by Meghan Quinn. I will say that if you have dealt with or currently are dealing with a loved one who has Alzheimer’s Disease that parts of this book could be hard to read. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
After Sawyer runs away from his former best friend and former girlfriend’s wedding, he finds himself in a small town. Wanting a change of pace, he decides to stay for a while. While in the town of Canoodle, he meets all the interesting characters, including Fallon. Sawyer is so intrigued by Fallon and starts to do secret projects around her business to help her out. I did think there was a lot going on and the story dragged on a little too long.
Oh Fallon and Sawyer this was a great build up a major slow burn with some great side characters and just funniness I’ve grown to enjoy and love from Megans books lol , this book was funny funny funny so many funny situations happened in this book, light, and fluffy with a side of smexy ,,
3.75 ⭐️ A fun, cute slow burn second chance romance with a sexy cinnamon role hero
Thank you to netgalley and Montlake
for an ARC in return for an honest review
I've only read one other of Meghan Quinn's Book (The Highland Fling) but I really enjoyed it so as soon as I saw this on Netgalley I immediately requested it and I definitely plan to read more of her books!
I really enjoyed The Runaway Groomsman, particularly how unique Sawyer's back story and situation feels compared to other books in the genre while still having all the predictable and cliche parts of a romance that we all love!
I also loved how poignant this book was- Grandpa Sully's struggle with Alzheimer's and how those around him love and care for him felt so real and of course the secondary love story running through this book, Grandpa Sully's and Grandma Joan's was beautifully written. I liked that it wasn’t just a romance book, it was also a book about love in all it’s forms: love for your family, your friends, your work, your home✨
The Runaway Groomsman had some saucier scenes but nothing too explicit. It was a fluffy, cozy romance with a strong heroine and a hero who was the sweetest and soooo romantic! If you want to read the equivalent of a hallmark movie then this is the book for you
Runaway Groomsman is a slow burn rom-com with enemies to lovers trope. I found this book absolutely captivating. Sawyer has been cheated on by his girlfriend with his best friend and because they're all in the Hollywood scene he is forced to go along with their courtship and ultimately their wedding, until... he loses all control at the alter while listening to his ex read her vows. He ends up in a small mountain town called Canoodle, drunk, with an unexpected turn of events. He wakes up the next morning not remembering where he is or how he got there. Jaz has no remorse for him once her best friend Fallon recognizes who he is and realizes she once went on a blind date with him that didn't go well at all. There is so much to this beautiful story from Sully and Joan's love story to Sully's battle with alzheimers, to Fallon leaving her entire life behind in Palm Springs to move to Canoodle to care for her grandpa Sully and his cabin business, from Sawyer's once horrible date with Fallon to falling head over heels for her, yet she has a boyfriend, Peter from Palm Springs, from Sawyer getting schooled by Sully when Sully mistakes him for a contractor to help renovate the cabins. This isn't really a spicy rom-com, it's the banter between the characters that made the story enjoyable. You will be sure to fall in love with them and want everything to turn out for everyone, except maybe for Simon and Annalise.
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
After making a very public scene at his ex-girlfriend's wedding, screenwriter Sawyer Castle flees from Hollywood... Cinderella style. And when he lands in the small town of Canoodle, Sawyer soon realizes that this place is exactly what he needs...
Fallon Long remembers Sawyer from one disappointing blind date, back when her life was extremely less complicated. And while she doesn't expect him to stay in town for long, Fallon is about to be surprised about way more than Sawyer's staying power...

Runaway Groomsman was a heartwarmingly funny and genuinely sweet read. Sawyer and Fallon once shared an excruciatingly awkward blind date, but meeting again under vastly different circumstances, they will soon come to realize just what, they have both been missing in their lives...
When Fallon moved to Canoodle, she not only took on caring for her ailing grandfather, but running his business as well. And while some days are better than others, Fallon would never trade her life for the one she left behind...
Sawyer lost it when his ex-girlfriend married his ex-best friend, and he was expected to just stand by and smile through their farce of a wedding. But what he didn't expect was the media fall-out from him finally snapping... during the actual ceremony. Stumbling upon Canoodle, Sawyer is not only presented an opportunity to lay low and get his career back on track, but to find direction in his life that he has been missing for many years...
This book was such a great read! I really enjoyed the love story between Fallon and Sawyer, but the amazing cast of supporting characters really stole the show. The fascinating townspeople of Canoodle brought many quirky and hilarious moments while Fallon and Sawyer worked through their unlikely friendship, turned relationship.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I knew I was going to love this book from the beginning....Sawyer's character had me instantly and just kept getting better. The premise of this book was really fun - - to have the groomsman running from the wedding was a good twist and once you understood all the reasons behind it, it made total sense.
Initially, you don't know what kind of person Sawyer really is. You know he's been put through the proverbial wringer but you don't realize what a caring man he is. As this story progresses and you see the things he does without looking for recognition, you learn a great deal about his character.
Fallon is her own brand of determined. She refuses to give up on saving the family business - - a collection of cabins in Canoodle, California, but the level of rehabbing that is needed is overwhelming. However, with her grandfather, Sully's Alzheimers worsening, Fallon doesn't want to let them go.
Seeing Sawyer's interactions not just with Fallon but with Sully as well show you the kind of guy he is. Then there's Fallon's knife-toting best friend. She's the true challenge. If Sawyer can win her over, he'll be golden.
This is a more slow-burn romance than we're used to seeing from Ms. Quinn. Yet, once you connect with the characters in the story, you'll be just fine with it. The pacing is perfectly on target for who Sawyer and Fallon are, so it works.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
This was a slow burn book, it took a while go get going, it had every chick book cliche you could think of, overall it was ok but I didn't feel it was as good as I expected it to be.
I thought the concept of this seemed so ridiculous that the book was bound to just be so much fun to read, and I was right! Runaway Groomsman had some different romance tropes compared to a lot that I've read lately, which was so refreshing. I really enjoyed the fact that they had met before and it started off as a mutual disinterest, before both changing their minds and really falling for each other. I also hadn't come across a romance where one of them is in a relationship at the time of meeting for a while, so that was interesting to read about. The banter between Sawyer and Fallon was honestly great and I loved how naturally it came for them even before they admitted to wanting to be friends, let alone anything more. The small-town setting and the secondary plotline of Fallon's grandpa and Sawyer's caring nature towards him just cemented this as a really solid romance for me!
This was one of those romance books that was just swoon worthy from the beginning.
After his ex dumps him for his then best friend, in order to protect his career Sawyer finds himself in their wedding as the best man. Deciding he's had enough of their drama, he runs out on the wedding and starts driving.
Landing in the small town of Canoodle, California, Sawyer stumbles into the local bar, Beggar's Hole, looking to get drunk. There he runs into Fallon, who he had gone on a date with previously and had NOT left a good impression. Fallon is annoyed he doesn't recognize her, but takes pity on him and gives him a place to stay at the Canoodle Cove Cabins, which she has taken over running from her grandfather.
Fallon is struggling to balance renovating the cabins and take care of Sully, who has Alzheimers. After meeting Sully, Sawyer starts helping to renovate the cabins as a distraction while he hides out from the media fallout drom him running out on the wedding. Sawyer begins to realize how much he cares for Fallon and sets out to win her over even though she is already seeing someone else and Fallon realizes that Sawyer is not at all who she thought he was.
For me, Runaway Groomsman was like a warm hug. Sawyer just won me over. Sully was adorable and the lengths that Sawyer went to include him and help maintain his dignity just made him out as one of my favorite heroes. This book also had a ton of humor, which is one thing I love about Meghan Quinn's writing (the names of the stores in Canoodle were a nice touch). Overall this was a satisfying and cozy read I wouldn't mind curling up again this winter.
Thank you to netgalley for the ARC. All thoughts are my own.
I’ve read 5 books by Meghan Quinn and they do not disappoint!
CW- Alzheimer’s, cheating
This was very different from the other Meghan Quinn books I’ve read (much less steamy) but I still really enjoyed it! Sawyer is a screenwriter and writes a screenplay similar to this book and I would totally watch it!
Fallon is renovating her grandfather’s mountain cabins. Fallon’s grandfather, Sully, has Alzheimer’s and she is his caregiver. Sawyer is trying to find himself after running from his ex-girlfriend and ex-best friend’s wedding. As a former construction worker, Sully puts him to work around their property. I loved the friendship they developed and how Sully told Sawyer about his late wife, Joan. It was easy to see how this raises his esteem in Fallon’s eyes. I loved the friendship and rapport Sawyer and Fallon developed before their relationship deepened into more. This was definitely a slow burn, but I really enjoyed it!
This book gave me all the feels! I loved the small town vibes, the secondary characters and charm of it all. My fav was definitely the embedded story of Fallon’s grandpa who has Alzheimer’s- he told his love story through out the novel and it was beautiful! It reminded me of a classic Hallmark movie! I adored it! If you’re in the mood for a feel good and cozy romance, give this one a shot! ❤️
Megan Quinn has done it again! This was such an incredible slow burn romance and she realllly pulled through trust me!
There were so many incredible and heartwarming moments in this book, not to mention some scenes literally left me in stitches! I think these characters are true soul mates and it was a beautiful thing to get to read.
This book gave me sooo many emotions it was such a rollercoaster and I truly loved it from the get go!
I feel like these characters went on such an incredible journey together and it was so special to be able to watch them grow.
I would absolutely recommend this book to literally everyone!
Runaway Groomsman was a fun, great read. I try to pick up a book by Meghan Quinn when I need a pick me up because they always put me in a good mood, and this one didn't disappoint. I loved Sawyer. He's a great guy. After a crazy exit from his ex-girlfriend and best friend's wedding, he ends up in Canoodle, CA to lay low. He meets Fallon there. She's a sweet nice girl. She is trying to save the family business. These two have a great story. It's a slow burn, but the pace seemed just right.
I felt an instant and deep connection to this story when heroine Fallon's grandfather Sully was introduced. That relationship and situation was so well done, I could give the book 5 stars just for that. (I have recently been on that same journey with a family member so it really hit home for me.) I found Fallon and our hero Sawyer's story to be so fun and their dialog was so darn funny and witty and I smiled so much. I also loved the connection Sawyer made with Sully and the projects they worked on together. Canoodle was such a neat setting and author Quinn always does a fantastic job with descriptions and neat aspects of small-town life, it all seemed so real. I am crossing my fingers for another book with this cast of characters!
I absolutely loved this book and the fact that it was a groomsman and not the groom. I adored Fallon and Sawyer. This slow burn romcom had it all. The sweet little town Canoodle would be a fun place to live or visit. The secondary characters were great as well. The Runaway Groomsman was a page turner that had me smiling.
The Runaway Groomsman is a funny small town/second chance romance where a groomsman is on the run from his ex-fiance's wedding and lands in a small California town.
I really enjoyed the quirkiness of the inhabitants of Canoodle, California. They make for some funny situations that had me laughing all throughout the book. Sawyer, the runaway, has a nice arc where he realizes the important things in life.
My favorite character was Sully, Fallon’s grumpy grandfather who is living with Alzheimers. The way Sawyer works with Sully and the respectful way he interacts with Sully will melt your heart.
Read if you like
*Second chance romance
*Tons of dialogue
*Quirky small town
*Slow burn romance
While there were many things I liked in this story, I felt the last half dragged which knocked a couple stars off my rating. I liked the snappy dialogue, the funny characters (although I’m not sure if Jaz was funny or terrifying!) and the unique storyline. I also liked how the relationship of Fallon with her grandfather was included. I felt the handling of Alzheimer's disease was done tastefully. I really liked Sawyer’s relationship with Sully. But I felt the slow burn romance was too slow. As well, the conflict/miscommunication felt forced. I ended up skimming the last half of the book.
Ok I loved the characters and the premise of Runaway Groomsman! I laughed out loud so much and I felt the side characters might’ve stole the show, they were so great.
The burn was slooooooow. I think a little too slow in my opinion. This was not a short book and I felt like too much the relationship building got left for the end and I was left wanting more from the main characters.
Still a fun time and fans of Meghan Quinn will enjoy this one!
Thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sawyer is in Canoodle to hide out after making a dramatic exit from his ex's wedding. He doesn't expect to meet Fallon or fall for her. Loved both characters and you hope everything works out for them.
