I read these kinds of books for the potential tidbits of wisdom I might glean, and reminders that I need. This contained those for me. The best audience for this is probably those less than 30.
Thanks very much for the free review copy!!
I was going to say that a lot of the 101 clues were fairly obvious or commonsense but I have just re-read the description and see that Bäcker wrote this book for his children as they left for college, including insights he wished he had known earlier. In this context, I think that the book does have a lot of helpful information that could make life smoother and happier. I wasn't particularly keen on all of the cartoons - they were rather dated and contained old-fashioned humour often using stereotypes. Nevertheless, there were a couple of tips that I bookmarked and need to remember to use, so I think everyone would get something out of this, even if only a couple of clues!
Quick and easy read. Backer does a wonderful job of illustrating his point with graphics. The perfect read for anyone needing a bit of self-help in their life. Highly recommend it for a high school or college graduate.
This is a book with short, concise one liners for each concept that the author is trying to talk about with a picture to illustrate the concept. Overall, a nice little coffee table book.
Read this straight through. Cheered me up no end. Easy to read and to the point. Short bullet points on many ways to have a happy life. Best of all is the addition of the cartoons. Maybe I have been married too long but saw the husband in many of the cartoons and had a good laugh.
This is a fun book which fulfills its title. It does provide 101 Clues to a Happy Life. The clues are brief, to the point, illustrated with great cartoons, many of which are quite funny and make the clue easy to remember. The clues/tips for living a good life are, for the most part, to be expected with a couple of unusual ones thrown in such as give up toilet paper. The biggest clue to a happy life is to find the right spouse and I second that. Absolutely. Write a book. I second that. Sing, make music, be thankful, all perfect. It is a quick read and well worth the time. A good, easy to read, easy to assimilate book, it will remind you of what is important in life. And, as the book says, remember to have children. So, bottom line, the book is actually a tribute to tried and true advice, some of which you might have learned in your religion growing up.
Want to be happy? There are a lot of books out thyere claiming to help do that, but this one is at the top. Try this one and be happy.
This is a pithy and thought-provoking collection of short teachings about life. The author has assembled these lessons from his own life and they are accompanied by graphics to bring the concept to life. Not deep but thought-provoking. I could see using each one as a writing prompt to spend a few minutes in reflection. .
