Overall, while I was initially drawn in by the crime and wanted to know what led to it but overall I didn't enjoy this. …I know many people loved this one and while it did start off strong in terms of the crime and the mystery surrounding what led to it, by the halfway point I lost interest with the repetitive time travel. I’d say the structure of the story just didn’t work for me along with what felt like a lot of motherhood introspection which for me took away from the thriller tone that the beginning of the story had.
I listened and don’t think that was the right format for this story as it did get confusing in places.
Wonderful story; playing with time and place. In order to save her son and her marriage, Jen wakes up in her own body in the past, where she day by day learns more about herself, her family and all the things she didn't notice the first time around.
Having Jen going back in time, might be cheating by Gillian McAllister, since she is free to introduce new twists in the middle of the book, but it really works. I didn't want to put the book down, and the twists kept me interested all the way through.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy for an honest review
I freaking LOVE books like this with such unique plots and ideas! Jen’s character development is absolutely fascinating and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what she would discover next! I love the dynamic she has with her son and the playful banter between them! This is definitely a book that I’ll be recommending for a very long time!
Time travel is usually a dicey prospect in my reading, but the time travel element felt like a supremely interesting structure in this mystery / thriller (it also helped that Jen, the main character, is also skeptical of what is happening to her). As McAllister put it in her Author's Note, Wrong Place Wrong Time is "a crime novel where you must stop the ending, told backwards." While waiting up for her teenage son, Todd, his mother (Jen) sees him commit a crime out the front window. The next morning, Jen wakes up and it is the day before the crime…and it happens again and again. This is just as much a family story (with lots of commentary on motherhood and marriage) as it is a crime novel. It's super intricately plotted and the story grew on me with each new layer that was revealed. This story felt like Catherine Ryan Howard at her best and it's my favorite thriller of 2022 so far!
This story sucks you in and takes you on a rollercoaster the entire time. I really had no idea what the main character was going to discover and uncover about her husband, her son, and her own past each time she woke up further in the past. It is very well written, as to not be confusing to readers, even though it switches time frames so often. Intriguing and pulse-pounding!
WOW!!! This book was so good. I loved the unique timeline of it. I couldn't put it down and I am sure I will be rereading it again to pick up on stuff that I bet I missed. I LOVED IT!!!! I will need to read other books by this author.
First and foremost, I would like to give a big thank you to William Morrow, Gillian McAllister and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege to read and review Wrong Place Wrong Time, prior to the big release!!!!
To tell you I squealed in delight when I received my approval email would be an understatement. Wrong Place Wrong Time had been one of my most sought after books and to be honest, it exceeded the extremely high expectations I already had.
I am just going to start off by telling you this is a 5 star read and if I could give it 10 stars I would.
My mind was blown and my jaw was on the floor the entire time. I was completely consumed by the first chapter and I knew that everything I had planned for the day would become null and void.
IT WAS WORTH IT
If you are looking for a fast paced, gut wrenching thriller that will never get below a 5 star rating, then look no further, Wrong Place Wrong Time, is the only book you need to read for 2022 to get the ultimate satisfaction.
I would like to also state that I am jealous of every single person who gets to pick up this book without knowledge of the wild ride they are about to hop on.
Wrong Place Wrong Time, will be a book I recommend for years to come. Kudos Gillian McAllister, you absolutely slayed with this one!
Incredibly creative thriller - I couldn't put it down and will consider it one of my top reads this year. Am excited to recommend it to others.
Do you ever read a book that got so many 4-5 stars that you wonder 1)did I read the same book and 2) what am I missing? This is the book for me! Overall I did like it but wasn’t over excited about it. A mom, Jenn is looking out her window one night and sees her son stabbing someone. The next day she wakes up to a new day - the day BEFORE - did it really happen? This is a time loop book and each chapter is the day before, the week before, and sometimes even months before. I found myself liking it but was very confused throughout and was even more confused at the end. Great characters, great story … it just left me confused which is why my 3 star rating.
Jen is a mama bear. She lives to protect her son, Todd. So when she witnesses him killing a strange man, she rightly freaks. But when she wakes up a day before it happens, she freaks even more. With a spin on Ground Hog's Day, she continues to go back in time a day, several days, a month, even a year. It all seems to be random until she consults with a friend who has studied time travel and comes to the conclusion that the days she's visiting aren't random at all. They're connected to the event she witnessed of her son killing a man named Joseph Jones. But where are they leading her, and what must she learn from this strange experience?
As Jen travels back in time, she learns more about her son, husband, and the man called Joseph Jones. More importantly, she faces her fears of not having been the best mother to Todd which believes has resulted in his becoming a killer. She also discovers some things about her husband that make her question their entire relationship.
Without giving spoilers, I have to say that the twists in this book were well done, even though I guessed two out of three. This was more than a time-travel story. It was a relationship and family story. Do you ever wonder what you've missed over the years that you would see differently if viewing them from your current perspective? There are some great points made here. You will find this book hard to put down.
I loved the premise behind "Wrong Place Wrong Time" and I was not disappointed. READ THIS BOOK ASAP!!!!
This book by Gillian McAllister had me riveted from the beginning. I couldn’t put it down and couldn’t read it fast enough to find out what was going to happen. It also made me think about how far I’d go to protect my own child if something like ever happened to us. Intense and unpredictable, Wrong Place Wrong Time is a must read!
Wow! I LOVED this one!! What a gem!
🔪 Wrong Place, Wrong Time starts out with a mother (Jen) who witnesses her teenage son (Todd) stab/kill someone in front of their home.😳
⏰ But when Jen wakes up the next day it’s actually the previous day … that’s right. This story is told in reverse and it was done SO well! Jen keeps waking up further back in time. Can she do something to keep her son from committing this crime ?!
🧩 Such a unique mystery where everything comes together little piece by little piece. I absolutely loved watching it all unravel.
🕵🏻♀️ Great characters… especially Jen. I really enjoyed traveling through time with her as she investigated the mystery of how her son ended up in the position he did.
🤓 “Just one more chapter and then I’ll go to sleep” … the lie detector test determined … that was a lie. 🤷🏻♀️ I stayed up late because I couldn’t put this one down! I seriously could not wait to get to the end and see how it all played out!
Thank you for my review copy. All opinions are my own.
Ummmm. Exsqueeze me. Was that one of the best books ever? I'm gonna say yes. As an avid reader some really good books go under the radar for me. They are good...just ordinary good. This book. Extraordinary. Wooo. I will be able to talk ab0ut it in five years. That vivid.
I'm going to mention a couple of my favorite points and the rest I'm just gonna say read it. Trust me.
The plot works backwards.
The time travel (I know, I know. I'm not a time travel fan either....but this....perfection).
This is definitely a slow burn mystery. Do not expect it to be a fast thriller. It is not meant to be that. Honestly. One of the best mysteries I have ever read. Ever.
This book was a trip in the best way possible! I’m not a huge fan of the time travel story line, but this one was so creatively done and I loved it. I did not guess the twists at all. I was totally taken by surprise and I loved it. Overall, such a fun and creative book.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister

Out on August 2
This is a long - but never boring read.
Can something so terrible make you go through time to "fix it"? Very unique, unforgettable thriller. I enjoyed the back "hop", the way the book was written and keeping up with each of Jen"s discoveries. Several times I thought I'd solved it - but noped not even close!
Definitely a must read - and it would make an amazing movie!! I've even casted it in my head!
WOW!!! I read A LOT of thrillers, especially as of late, and this may just be one of the best of 2022.
Wrong Place Wrong Time begins on Day Zero when Jen, the main character, watches her son commit murder. From that moment on her world is shattered. However, when she wakes up, she finds herself in a time loop and it is the day prior to the murder.... and then the day before that... and so on. With that knowledge, Jen becomes determined to alter the course of events that led to her son's arrest.
I love how this story was primarily a psychological thriller but had a science fiction piece as well as some family drama. The characters were cleverly crafted and the type you want to route for despite the situation. The best part I will say was the execution. I do not want to give any spoilers but the pacing, revelations and twists were perfect and made it impossible to put down. . Beyond brilliantly done !!

Thank you SO much William Morrow for this ARC! This is out 8/2
Thanks to William Morrow for the gifted copy of this ARC.
After witnessing her 17-year-old son murder someone outside their house and expriencing the worst day of her life, Jen ends up waking up the day before the murder... then the day before that... and continues to go back in time. Jen sees each occurence as an opportunity to stop the murder from happening. As we travel back with Jen, we uncover a WHOLE LOTTA SECRETS that cause a whole lot of saying "whaaaaat?!" because whew! there are a lot of little twists that occur. Wrong Place Wrong Time is a very compulsive read that's hard to put down. You'll need to know who's who, why things are happening, find out if Jen can stop the murder, and see if Jen's marriage and family would end up surviving it all. I absolutely loved where everything ended up in the end and also the twisty, turny way we got there.
Imagine waiting up for your teenage son to come home – relief floods your body when you see him down the street. He is almost home safe. Then a man steps out of the shadows and your son goes to him. They talk a moment before they begin to shout at one another. You cannot hear what they are saying. The man is gesturing wildly. It only takes you a second to throw the front door open and begin to run toward them. But everything is moving in slow motion and you are totally not prepared to see your son pull out a knife and stab the man. When you arrive, you realize the man is mortally wounded and he dies.
This is Jen’s nightmare. Standing beside their son, Todd, Kelly and Jen feel lost, alone, and confused. How did this horrible thing happen? What happens next? Later after they leave Todd with the police and return home, Jenn prays that she can go back in time and fix what caused this tragedy. Be careful what you wish for, Jen, for the very next day when Jen awakes she has gone back a day.
I haven’t read many time travel books but I think Gillian McAllister did a good job making the events that happen as Jen moves backward in time believable. Her writing was very smooth and emotional. The mounting tension really captured my attention. I read the book quite quickly and had a little smile at the end. I look forward to reading her next book.
