Cute - quick and easy read. The characters were likeable and you were quick to relate to them and feel like your rooting for them. The chemistry was lacking for me. Fun, hollywood style book. Would recommend.
This was cute! I loved that our fmc was a mom! it added another layer of depth to this sweet little book!
I just craved a tad more angst and tension from the couple!!!
I do really enjoy the Hollywood/celebrity trope but some aspects fell too flat for me to truly love it.
I also didn't get the title? I didn't find that the title had anything to do with the story...
I love that this is a mom-com. Not a lot of books do this and I really enjoyed the whole book. Can't wait for more of this series.
I loved this banter in this book so much! I couldn’t help but be swept away with these characters and their story.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
This was a cute, fun, quick read about a mom trying to do the very best for her kids. Most of the characters were really likable and the story was engaging. Personally, I've found myself to be a sucker for a story set in Alaska, and with "enemy to lover" vibes and an unlikely love story so this really hit the spot. The Hollywood Insider blog posts were a creative addition and I loved them, I love fun little additions like that.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a sweet romance book - very little spice but lots of chemistry! The characters are great and the storyline is so great too. It is so nice to read a book with competent women and a man that actually loves children. I'll definitely be reading more from these authors!
I liked this book - fast moving plot, good characters, and fun to read. The author did a great job with the story, plot, and setting. Overall, I would definitely recommend!
This writing duo never fails to entertain, so whenever I need a quick, light-hearted read, I know they won't disappoint.
I loved this simple, fun cover- it is so true to the content and spirit of this book!
Actress Harper Kennedy is going through really rough time dealing with her divorce from her philandering husband. Given the couple's previous reputation of being 'a perfect family', the media pressure is unbearable. Sometimes you have good reasons for getting away from it all and the place Harper chooses is Alaska (hooray! love this setting!), where she meets a grumpy pilot and lodge owner Digger.
If you love 'the opposites attract' and 'enemies-to-lovers' tropes, you'll appreciate this sweet, humorous romance!

Thank you to Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the e-arc. I love me some mom-com especially when there is hunk involved. I found myself falling in love with Alaska even though I would probably freeze there. I cant wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
Actress Harper Kennedy is in the middle of a messy separation from her cheating husband, fellow actor Brett. When press attention in the wake of the scandal becomes overwhelming, she decides to take her kids, 8-year-old Liam and 4-year-old Lily, off the grid for a vacation in Alaska. A detour to a popular tourist attraction results in them being late to their meeting with Digger McKenzie, owner of the Whistler Lake Lodge and their pilot for the last leg of the journey. Digger isn't happy with the delay so he and Harper don't get off to the best start, but he soon realizes that she isn't the spoiled, entitled princess he thought she'd be. Digger always thought he'd be a bachelor forever, but as he and Harper grow closer, he begins to envision a different future with Harper and her kids playing an integral role. When the press learns where Harper has been hiding and Brett shows up to try and reclaim his family, can Digger and Harper's fledgling relationship withstand the pressure?
This story was a lot of fun, but also surprisingly emotional at times. Harper was in a really tough situation as she worked through the logistics of her impending divorce, and every time she broke down over the idea of missing out on time with her kids, I hurt for her. That said, she was so much stronger and more resilient than she realized, and I admired her ability to consistently put Liam and Lily first.
Overall, I loved this super cute, funny, and sweet story and highly recommend it for all contemporary romance and romantic comedy fans. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Read 3% of the way into this book but kept starting and stopping and ultimately forgot about it. Figured it was better to review as is. It was written well just not my cup of tea.
Book review :
No Ordinary hate by Whitney Melanine is the funny and first installment of the Love is a Gamble Mom-Com series. Quite interesting and hilarious moments are in abundance.
Life in Hollywood is not easy. Same goes to Harper and Brett Kennedy who have the perfect family life—an image better portrayed. But reality was something else. When Brett finds out his husband cheating her on her youngest child pregnancy. This time she could not tolerate and takes a witty decision.
Decision taken to seperate changes her life completely. Her life and her kids are on a journey of rollercoaster of emotions and learning new things and experience lots of twists and turns.
The way author has predicted the change in life of a celebrete and a normal person's life is adorable. I admired the hilarious moments and want to read more of his books.
I am thankful to netgalley and the publisher for giving me this book in return of an honest review. I loved reading this book and would recommend this book to all.
Happy Reading!
This was a fun rom-com that I read this summer. Kept me entertained when I needed to. Opposites attract and a slight enemies- to lovers, No Ordinary Hate really had me laughing. This book has great humor and honestly, better side characters than main characters. I am slowly falling for single moms making it work in a new place.
Hollywood star, Harper Kennedy has a picture perfect life (on the outside)! She is talented and beautiful, married to superstar Brett Kennedy and has the most adorable children! In reality, her marriage is in shambles, with Brett turning out to be a serial cheater. She finally decides to call it quits and divorce Brett, but the media attention and paparazzi glare that follows the announcement makes life very difficult.
In a desperate attempt to get away, Harper escapes to Alaska with her kids, hoping it would be truly too remote for the press to follow.
What she does not count on is meeting Digger McKenzie - the very attractive, gruff, bad tempered owner of the lodge where they are staying. Digger seems to hate her and everything she represents . Digger has issues of his own and while Harper is everything he never wants in his life, he can't seem to get her out of his head.
My thoughts:-
This is old wine in a new bottle - actually not that new a bottle. The story arc is predictable, there are no surprises or twists to add even a little flavour or variation to a very standard fare!
The redeeming feature is that the characters are really likable! Harper and Digger are sweet and I found myself feeling like I was watching the re-run of a old favourite show!
Okay small town? Check! Alaska? Check! I loved Digger and Harper! Their chemistry was just so good! I’m a sucker for small town romances and being in Alaska was the cherry on top! This was a super quick read for me and I really enjoyed it! The side characters were amazing!!! Recommending to anyone who like a sweet and easy romance this is it!
Ok, so I'm always a fan of celebrity romances. I loved the fact that he protagonist was a Hollywood actress. I was, however, very pissed on Harper's behalf at her husband (soon to be ex).
Haprer was a fun protagonist, a good mom and I loved learning her story.
I also loved Digger, who's the love interest in this book. When reading the description, I expected an enemies to lovers romance, and while it had some of the vibes, it wasn't exactly that. He's a big grump (which I'm alway a fan of) but was also such a sweetheart with the development of the story. I loved how relatable and real both main characters' issues (past and present) were and I definitely felt for them.
Harper's kids were also very fun, especially Liam. I'm usually not a big fan of kids in books but Liam was fun.
The setting of the book being in Alaska was also a good choice for me.
The humor was a big part of this book and I loved it!
The book is well written, Whitney Dineen created a fun and fluffy story. The characters were quirky and interesting to meet,
This is a voluntary and honest review. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me the book.
This was a cute, fun, quick read about a mom trying to do the very best for her kiddos. The characters were really likable (except the one that wasn’t likable at all) and the story was engaging. Personally, I’m a sucker for Alaska and and unlikely love story so this really hit the spot. The Hollywood Insider blog posts were a creative addition and I loved them.
Harper is a celeb who catches her husband, Brent Kennedy (also a celeb), doing the dirty tango with the nanny…while the kids are around no less. Not the first time she’s found her husband cheating, but she’s decided it’s the last.
The media makes her and her husband’s relationship to be something solid. So when she makes the moves to split, they’re all over her. So she takes her kids and she leaves…to Gamble Alaska. We meet Digger, pilot and co-owner of a vacation lodge, before Harper. And honestly, out of everyone he was my favorite character. No one can blame him for not immediately swooning over the celebrity that just shows up looking for a hideout from the paparazzi and her ex, kinda. But he is a nice guy and helps her hide away.
It sounds like the makings of a great story. And to some, I am sure, it will be. But to me, well, I struggled to get into it. I just felt like the catalyst slaps you upside the face in a rather…short and crudely written way. You don’t get much set up or back ground before Harper is done with her marriage. What info you do get comes after, in a very ‘tell’ version.
The romance with Digger…to me it felt forced and, obviously, messy. She’s still married. They are working on a divorce. Digger is the first man that she encounters (pretty much) and is attracted to that gives her positive attention and actually does things to help her out. Therefore, she must love him. They didn’t have any sort of chemistry, in my opinion. Heck, the lovers only get a handful of smooches throughout the book, that’s it.
Didn’t work for me so much. And since the romance and the interweaving of their lives is basically to plotline for the book, the book fell flat for me. The kids and Harper’s parenting were all good. Side characters served their purpose. The humor was on point in places, but all in all this book just didn’t grab me.
I've read a couple of series written by Melanie Summers and loved them. This "mom-com" was very cute. It's not my favorite romantic comedy, but it was definitely funny and would consider continuing the series as fun beach reading.
I fell in love with the characters in this one. I love anything set in Alaska and this one was perfect! The setting was prominently featured but didn't distract from the blossoming romance between Harper and Digger. The story itself was well written and witty and i tore through this book. Highly recommended!
