Wow! This book is intense! Beautifully researched, fabulous written, and with lovely illustrations throughout, this is one for the Egyptomaniac! As one of those, I love it!

I knew Egypt had a huge impact on the 192os but I didn’t realise just how much broader, and longer lasting than that, it has been. I am amused by the misinterpretations and renaming of styles and products to sell them as “Egypt”. In this day and age, of swift verification via Google or social, it is hard to imagine how a trend could go so wrong so quickly! If you love fashion, style or Egypt, you’ll enjoy “Style from the Nile”! It’s a five out of five on the enJOYment scale.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Pen & Sword through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is such a great book, if you love anything to do with ancient Egyptians then this is the book for you. i have always been fascinated by the ancient Egyptians (I blame watching The Mummy too many times ;-) ) but I havealways been fascinated by the tragic story of Cleopatra, her dramatic life and affair with Mark Anthony to her beauty, so I was instantly intrigued by this book and I wasn't disappointed!

Style on the Nile is a fascinating book, it explores how ancient Egyption culture and fashion has ignited the imaginations of generations throughout history, the book accurately traces ancient Egyptian fashion right back to the start diving into ancient Egyptians vast history, to Napoleon's expedition to Tutankhamen's discover right through the ages to how ancient Egypt has an impact in today's fashion..

There is a huge amount of research that has gone into this book, each aspect of the book is accompanied by some beautiful illustrations. I love that this is one of those bok where you can dip in to at anytime, you can read a chapter here, a different chapter there, it's one of those you would want on your book case on hand in case you felt the need to have a quick glance.

It's insightful , knowledgable and well put together, it's easy to read which is always a good thing, you don't feel overwhelmed with too many facts and figures bombarding you. An all round winner!

This was just as it was described a superb book for anyone interested in Egyptology and especially how it affected the history of fashion designs. There are some lovely pictures throughout demonstrating what Isabella is describing. Seeing them n the Kindle though did not do it real justice and readers would benefit from reading on the PC where they could see the pictures in full colour or clarity.
An amazing amount of research has gone into this book and it is beautifully presented in an easily read format.
It would make a lovely coffee table book where it could be dipped into at various points of history at different times.

This is such a fascinating book. It goes right back into the start of how Egyptian history and exploration influenced fashion, from the Napoleonic expedition to the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb to the present day. Campagnol studies how 'Egypt-mania' influenced every aspect of fashion, including accessories, hairstyles, costume designs for films and even home wares, and includes many amusing and interesting anecdotes.. The account was accompanied by beautiful illustrations and photographs I also learned about interesting women who I had never heard of before - Irene Brinn and Rosa Bonini.

I received this free ebook from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

This book caught my attention straight away because of the cover and title. I happen to love ancient Egypt and its history and I was aware that there was Egyptomania but I had no idea it affected the styles of the times as much as it did. This book was well thought out, presented, and fascinating to read. The images are just so lovely and a perfect glimpse of the times and I'm so glad the author took the time to dig them all out of various archives to include them. In short, I really enjoyed this book and wouldn't hesitate to read another by Isabella Campagnol!

This is a well-researched and related monograph on the influence of archaeology in Egypt on primarily women's fashion in the 20th century. I enjoyed the book overall and appreciated the extensive notes and bibliography, as well as the images. This is a fascinating period in history of all kinds: ancient, world, political, gender, and fashion, and Campagnol does a beautiful job of pulling it all together for the general reader.

Style from the Nile is an up-close look at the fashion “industry” coming out of Egypt from the 19th century to modern times. Admittedly, I do not know a lot about fashion, but I have always been intrigued by fashion that seems inspired by Egyptian themes. This collection offers an excellent and informative background into some of these trends. It reads a little more like a history book than I was expecting, but that is because it has so much information! The illustrations are varied and aptly selected to demonstrate the content being shared. Honestly, it felt like going for a stroll in a special section of a fashion museum. The only thing that would have made it more enjoyable for me was more color. When I think of Egypt, I think bright and vivid. While vivid themes were captured and the historical authenticity was preserved with the black and white illustrations, it may have resonated more with some color.

I’m so happy that I was gifted a copy of this book! Thank you NetGalley, Pen & Sword, and Isabella Campagnol for a copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a really interesting book that describes Egypt’s role in fashion trends. I really enjoyed learning more about the different trends and I liked that there were pictures throughout to show what was being described. I’ve always found Egyptomania to be really fascinating and I learned a lot from this book, but it never bored me. I highly recommend this one for people interested in Egypt, fashion, or just history in general.
