I read one of my most anticipated 2022 books last week and I’m glad I saved it for my birthday week! I loved @launger new novel, Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six! Lisa is one of my favorite authors and I’ll read anything she writes, especially a locked door thriller.

I’m a city girl, through and through, but if I had to spend a weekend in the woods, a luxury cabin with a private chef, fireplaces, and hot tubs sounds good to me! (With a big stack of books, obvi!) Hannah and her husband are headed to meet her brother and SIL and her bff and her new beau for a long weekend of childless fun. The house looks amazing and everyone is ready to kick back and relax. But that’s when things get creepy.

A major storm rolls in and knocks trees down, blocking their exit. The host of the cabin seems intense and there’s rumors of ghosts on the property. They find a massive about of blood in one bedroom after a guest goes missing. Can you trust your closest friends and family?

The different POVs in this book absolutely made the book for me. I loved that didn’t know how all the voices connected until nearing the end. Each of the characters has their own secrets and there were a few extra characters that had even more. The pacing here was perfect and I thought there were many good twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I would say this is my favorite Lisa book I’ve read so far!

Thank you so much to Lisa, Tandem Literary and @parkrowbooks for my gifted copy. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is on sale now!

This was a fun novel that kept me guessing the majority of the time. There are only so many ways to portray a "locked room" scenario, and this one was definitely interesting. It did get iffy at times when you didn't know who you could trust or if anyone in the story was actually a good person or not - I found myself actively rooting against a few of them at times. Overall, a solid thriller.

This was a fun novel that kept me reading to the end to uncover all of the secrets being kept. As with the last book I read of Unger’s I felt there was real promise here for an amazing story that sort of fell flat with some confusing story lines, extra characters, and situations that made you suspend any scientific or medical knowledge for th e purpose of the story line. You would think that’s means I didn’t enjoy the novel, but actually I did. There were enough interesting characters, a fabulous setting and also enough mystery to keep me up reading. The dual timeline didn’t work well for me, and as it was basically a locked room mystery— I wish the details on whodunit had been kept secret awhile longer..

Great thriller. I loved the secluded setting, the well-developed characters and the Origins element. Original and entertaining.

Relentless Tension and Skillfully Constructed

SUMMARY
Hiking, hot tubs, and massages were on the weekend agenda for a getaway for three couples in an isolated luxury cabin in the woods. What could be better?

Hannah and her tech husband Bruce need to restore their connection after the birth of their baby daughter Gigi. Hannah’s wealthy brother, Mako, and his petite yogi wife, Liza, are springing for the cabin and the personal chef for the weekend. Hannah's best friend and party girl, Cricket, and her new boyfriend, Joshua, are also invited for the weekend.

The weekend becomes a North Georgia nightmare when a tropical storm moves in on their first night, and the power goes out. They have just heard a haunting story of a family that was murdered on the property decades earlier, so some members of the party are already on edge. While lightning flashes, trees fall, and roads flood, one person disappears. Before the night is over, someone else shows up for the weekend who is determined to rectify some wrongs from the past.

REVIEW
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a riveting multi-layered psychological thriller. The story delves into the shocking things that can be uncovered with ancestry research and DNA testing and whether we can lead a happy life if we don’t know exactly who we came from. Sometimes the truth is too hard to handle.

The story is tense, dark, and atmospheric. The deeper into the book you read, the tighter your fingers will grip this book. The tension is relentless, from start to finish.

Author Lisa Unger’s writing is engrossing, evocative, and skillfully constructed. While some side stories may seem unrelated, rest assured that Unger weaves a gut-wrenching tale with no thread left untucked.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is Unger’s twentieth novel. Unger's other recent novels include Last Girl Ghosted and Confessions on the 7:45, which is currently in development at Netflix. The motivation for this novel came to her when she was staying at a luxury cabin in the state of Georgia during the pandemic. While lying awake in bed at night, her imagination takes control, and she spins the darkest of scenarios, as she worries about who else has the lock code for this same cabin.

"Three couples rent a luxury cabin in the woods for a weekend getaway to die for in this chilling locked-room thriller"". When I read this first line in the synopsis, I was hooked. This is my first book by Unger but will definitely not be my last. I was invested in this story and couldn't stop until I found out how it was all going to play out. I enjoyed the changing timelines from past to present and the different perspectives. I wish we had less time on the backstory and more time in fear at the cabin but that is just my preference. Overall it was a solid mystery with an interesting motive behind everything that was happening.

I enjoyed this locked room mystery/thriller although parts of it were a little difficult to believe. I liked that this was told from multiple POVs and thought the setting was pretty creepy. I did guess one of the twists but not the main one. I liked Henry's storyline and how it ended up intersecting with the main story.

Thank you @Netgalley and @htpbooks for the gifted e-arc.

This suspense novel has all the ingredients for a story that can keep the reader up throughout the night. The main character, Hannah, quickly realizes she can’t trust the people closest to her - her husband, her brother and even her best friend are keeping secrets. All Hannah wants is to go home and be with her child, but things are never that easy.

It’s a dark, twisty story that keeps you at the edge-of-your seat. It’s intense and filled with intrigue. There are many twists and turns throughout the book.

At first I found it a bit confusing as there are a few different characters and each chapter is told from a different characters’ point of view. As I continued to read, it all became clear and all the pieces started to fall into place. I became addicted to the story and didn’t want to stop reading until I knew exactly what was going on.

I could easily see this book being made into a movie. It’s a fascinating story and kept my interest until the very end. If you enjoy a book that keeps you thinking, I think you’d enjoy this one. It’s only my second Lisa Unger book, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Love Lisa Unger books, and this title did not disappoint. Literally a secluded cabin, found by Hanna’s brother, and 6 people.
But someone has ideas other than rest and relaxation. And Hannah doesn’t know if she can trust anyone, even her husband.
Great fast paced mystery!

When Hannah's often over-the-top brother, Mako, rents an isolated luxury cabin for their friend group for a weekend, she and her husband Bruce, begrudgingly agree to go. Sometimes it is just easier to give Mako what he wants than to fight against him.

Hannah and Bruce have a baby daughter and it will be their first time really leaving her behind. Hannah struggles with the choice a lot, but her mother-in-law is more than capable of babysitting while they're away. Thus, they go. Prepared to unplug with Mako, his wife, Liza, Hannah's best friend, Cricket and her new beau, who none of them have met before.

Arriving at the cabin, they're impressed. It's gorgeous, but with Mako, they would really expect nothing less. The tech mogul does tend to go all out. As the Reader, you follow the interactions of the family and friends as they settle into the cabin. The first night is full of food, drink and fun. An isolated atmosphere is created as they have trouble with wifi connectivity and a storm is coming in. They've been warned they could lose power, or worse, get stuck there. That's nice. I like the idea of that, but it's only one part.

There's also Henry, who we start following as a child in a completely different time and place. Also, it's not clear how his life is connected to the rest of the story. And by not clear, I mean not at all. At first when he came in, it was so jarring, I thought I had accidentally opened the wrong book on my kindle.

But wait, yeah, I'm not done yet. You also get the perspective of the owner of the house Mako rented. That was the oddest of them all to me, like, why?!

And lest you believe that we only get the group scenes from Hannah's perspective, let me assure you, we do not. We get those scenes from multiple perspectives as well. To me, this story really suffered from trying to do too much. I didn't feel like the multiple perspectives, or alternating storylines, meshed well together at all.

Additionally, I felt like the thread tying it all together was ridiculous. The antagonist was so unbelievable. I was actually surprised when my eyeballs didn't roll out of my head during any dialogue involving that character. I'm gonna leave it there. I have plenty more thoughts, but nobody has time to read through them all and honestly, I've burned enough time and energy on this. I'm so ready to move along.

However, with all of this being said, I can see how some Readers may be entertained by this. Just because it didn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you. If you think it sounds interesting, give it a shot. You seriously could end up loving it.

Thank you to the publisher, Park Row Press, for providing me with a copy to read and review. They can't all knock our socks off.

Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a dark, twisted novel by Lisa Unger. Very character-driven, and little by little the truth unraveled. I went in expected a locked room murder mystery, but this was so much more than that!

Hannah and her brother, Mako, have grown up having it all. Mako has made it big in the gaming industry and Hannah has the perfect husband and daughter she has always desired. When Mako insists that they all take a trip to a secluded cabin, Hannah is wary. She doesn’t want to leave her daughter, but wants to get to know her sister in law better, make her brother happy and spend time with her best friend and her new boyfriend. So the all head to the an amazing spot in the woods. But something isn’t right. Someone is watching and waiting to put an end to not only their trip, but an end to THEM.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The premise was good, but there were so many characters and so many side stories that it was hard to keep up with. I had everything mostly figured out by the middle of the book even though I wasn’t entirely sure who all the players were. It wasn’t a terrible book, but I didn’t love it like I need to love a thriller!

A weekend getaway that offers modern amenities, features spectacular views of acres of nature & solitude a hot tube , and even includes a personal chef, is just the
perfect vacation for anyone including Hannah, who has been invited on an all-expenses paid vacation by her brother, Mako. Hannah will be bringing her husband Bruce who works at Makos tech firm. Accompanying them will be of course Mako himself his wife and Hannah's best friend, Cricket and her newest boyfriend Joshua. What can possibly gone wrong when three couples, six people are brought together each having intricate connections with one another, and each having their own hidden secrets. Nevertheless , apart from that and unbeknownst to anyone there is also a stranger lurking around determine to ruin the lives of these vacationers as a form of revenge.
I am a fan of creepy cunning locked room mystery however this one was just satisfactory for me. The book does offer some unexpected surprises however with each character having their own secrets and agendas the story became muddle. There was an interesting exploration of DNA technology and genealogy that was woven into the storyline bringing forth some disturbing characters. However, I still found myself to be disinterested several times due to lag in the progression. As many of the the
thrillers I have been reading of late this had a very slow climb to the final build of its twist and turns.

This may be the perfect suspense novel for those who enjoyed locked room mysteries.

I have tried a couple of books by this author before, and they haven't been for me. The same was true for "Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six." I only made it approximately 1/3 of the way through the book before I just had to give up on it. I think the author's pacing and writing style just does not work for me.

This book had so much promise.

I loved the atmosphere and setting of this thriller. Three couples on a weekend getaway to a secluded cabin. No neighbors, spotty internet, and a storm brewing.

The plot however, was middle of the road for me. A few hold your breath moments, but nothing that made my heart race. It wasn't bad by any means, it just felt like it could have been so much more.

I enjoyed the writing style though and will definitely give this author another go!

**ARC recieved with many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher.**
