I had high hopes for this book, sadly it did not live up to what I hoped. Secluded mystery with an atmospheric location certainly ticked the boxes, but didn’t get there fully. I disliked the mystery POV and some characters seemed to have zero purpose. Too many perspectives and not focused enough.
This book had some interesting twists and turns and it kept me guessing for the most part. I will say that a few parts were a bit predictable but I think they were meant to be. The author did a good job of creating emotional investment with the characters and I was definitely worried for a moment about how certain things would play out.
'Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six: A Novel of Thrilling Suspense' by Lisa Unger has a good premise but some pacing and plot problems. The perspectives jump around in a less than clear way and, for fans of the genre, you'll need to be willing to hang in there awhile for it to become gripping enough to want to finish. It does wrap up (a bit predictably) in a tidy way with a few nice surprises.
At times I had difficulty following all the different storylines and perspectives and even wondered why a few characters were included in the book. However, at the end everything was tied up nicely. There are characters you love to hate and ones you're not sure if you like or loathe.
I struggled with this one a bit. It dragged a bit for me and I really couldn't support any of the characters here. I had a hard time getting into the plot.
Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six is a phenomenal locked-room thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. The story is incredibly fast-paced. This is one not to be missed! Highly recommended! Be sure to check out Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six asap.
Unfortunately, this one did not work for me. Too over-the-top, unlikeable characters, and underbaked conclusion. Interesting premise but the landing did not stick and the characters felt one-dimensional. I'm not giving up on Unger though - I will still pick up her next title.
I think Lisa Unger is one of those authors that is hit or miss for me, and unfortunately this one was a little more of a miss. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really grab my interest and I had to push myself to get through it. I love when books are told from multiple character’s perspectives which this one did, but I almost felt like it was too much. There were some characters whose stories I didn’t really need to know to be honest. The mystery wasn’t too mysterious and I didn’t find it particularly thrilling. I do really like the idea which goes back to nature vs nurture. I also really like that it throws some shade at the DNA sequencing craze and highlights some potential dangers.
This one seemed somewhat all over the place with the plot. The amount of characters were hard to keep up with on audio and I often found myself trying to think back to who each person was. When a lot of things happened action wise, I often wondered, "what does this have to do with anything?" I liked the setting and the suspense, but overall, it was just very average.
An interesting, yet predictable read. With advances in science, we are able to uncover truths that some would rather remain hidden. This book is written from multiple points of view including the 3 couples renting the cabin, the owner of the rental, and two other characters who appear to be a second story line. A seemingly relaxing trip to a secluded cabin seems to be what these three couples need, but drama begins to unfold within the group. Without giving too much away, this book allows the reader to put the puzzle together piece by piece. It was a quick and enjoyable read.
I am a huge Lisa Unger fan, but this one just did not do it for me. I didn't enjoy the story. The characters made me cringe. I was just not a fan.
With that being said I will still read everything Lisa writes.
I enjoyed this book by Lisa Unger. I thought the premise with the owner/neighbor was a little out there and far-fetched, but overall I enjoyed the plot and character development.
Oh wow! SECLUDED CABIN SLEEPS SIX gave me full on chills and oh my goodness— the plot twists! I really enjoyed singer’s latest thriller and can’t wait to see what she’d devising next!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Must say that it took awhile to get interesting for me though; I would say I had to get roughly 40% in til I got really hooked.
This book is twisty and I like that. It isn't confusing though which is good because if too much is going on I can easily get lost. I do think at one point there were too many POV's, but then one was taken out, so it calmed down. But I remember thinking, 'great, who is this? I have to remember another person?' The premise is fairly simple, 6 people go to a very secluded cabin, and all hell breaks loose. Exactly why hell is being brought down upon these people is crazy and idk how authors come up with ideas like this.
Some of these characters though. Bracken was creepy and could have been turned down a notch. I'm not a parent, but I understand that Hannah would have reservations leaving GiGi, but really??? Is the anxiety and guilt really that much? This book has ruined the name GiGi for me, lol. Loved Henry and was so worried for his safety quite a few times.
Would highly recommend this title and will be checking out more books by this author.
I love a locked room mystery. I was impressed to find out this is Lisa Unger’s 20th novel & I know her for her action packed mysteries. Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six was definitely in line with her style. I listened to the audio and enjoyed it. I overall liked this one but parts were a little convoluted for me towards the end.
Trapped in the middle of nowhere is one of my favourite plot lines. This was a fast-paced, fun read. I wish there had been a few more characters involved. I think the plot would have established more interest. Otherwise, a solid thriller.
This book has such a good premise, but for me the delivery was a bit uneven. I found the plot to be predictable and the pacing to be too slow for my preference. I'm sure fans of suspense novels will still pick this one up. Great cover and title!
This book was entertaining but so messy. Too many characters and hard to keep them all track and even care about them. The DNA aspect was kind of a weird plot line. It had potential but fell a little flat for me. 2.5 stars rounded up to 3
This story started out a bit like other thrillers but soon went in a direction I could have never guessed!
3 couples at a fancy cabin for a getaway but it soon turns out that several (!!) of them have their own agendas beyond hiking & relaxing.
The concept used to create the tension & reason for conflict was one I have never seen used in a book before & was incredibly intriguing.
I love Lisa Unger, but she can be hit or miss for me. This was not suspenseful. It was mostly boring, waiting for something to happen. Maybe her next will be better for me.
