This was a quick, fun read. Each book in this series brings more magic and world building with it and this was no exception. I like the little tidbits we get from Department 13 and the introductions of different species introduced throughout the series. Duke and Annika are cute together, though I wish there had been a little more depth to their relationship. I was expecting a little more closure to the story, especially with Annika's sister, but I guess that'll come in Flynn's book. There wasn't really anything wrong with the story, I just wish there had been more to it. I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Duke is an immortal pirate for more than two centuries but has been many things including a professor, now he owns a security company. He has experienced many things but he has never had a mermaid shoot him in the foot. Annika is a mermaid and is looking for her mermaid comb that has been stolen. Whoever has the comb, controls the mermaid. She believes the crew of the Sea Dog has it. They gave it to Department 13 but someone has stolen it from there. Duke offers to help her but they soon find out there is more at stake. Annika has never fallen for a human but there’s a first time.
I loved this story. You have suspense, action, and sex. I’m still slightly confused on how mermaids have sex but oh well. Pirates, mermaids, and other paranormal beings.
