I literally couldn’t put this book down from the moment I picked it up. A murder mystery get away to distract from the problems in their relationship - yet you should probably tell your girlfriend that is what you are going to. And then some weird things start to happen. And the truth is more astonishing than I ever imagined. Literally had me on the edge of my seat until the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was quite fun. I appreciated the twists and turns, and the setting was entertaining. I liked the juxtaposition of the 1920s Gatsby murder mystery and the onsite murder itself.
I loved the premise of this book as I am a huge true crime and mystery lover. The pros: fast paced and smooth writing. The cons: the plot itself involving the Becca and Blake adultery and Becca's character herself. Unfortunately, I found Becca extremely unlikeable and her personality took away from my enjoyment of the murder mystery weekend getaway. I was close to giving this a 4 star review but in my opinion it could have been so much better-correct, I have not written a book myself so take my criticism with a grain of salt.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and give an honest review.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book.. In my opinion, there was too much going on. I wasn't sure if the events were apart of the murder mystery show or the the actual murder. A lot of the vents were muddled and a lot of characters to follow and keep straight.

Becca and Blake are having some problems in their marriage. In an attempt to make things right, Blake plans a weekend away at a gorgeous mansion in the mountains. It’s a 1920’s themed murder mystery weekend, but Becca doesn’t know that. When a maid ends up “dead” at the end of the night, Becca is totally caught off guard and then becomes embarrassed as she realizes everyone else was in on it. As the night goes on, Becca befriends one of the actresses in the mystery. The next day, that actress is nowhere to be seen. Becca is convinced that something sinister has happened to her, but it’s impossible to tell when everyone is staying in character!
This was such a unique idea for a mystery novel. It was kind of like two mysteries in one! I really liked Becca’s character and how she was so determined to figure out the real mystery instead of getting caught up in the planned one. I loved how the clues kept getting confusing because of the double mysteries. The setting was so cool and it made me really want to go to one of these things. It was interesting to read about each of the characters in the murder mystery dossier, as they all had certain parallels to the people assigned to them. The book really kept me guessing and I was genuinely shocked at the ending. I would recommend this one to anyone who likes dressing up, playing a part, and murder mystery nights!
A surprise Roaring Twenties-themed murder weekend at a remote hotel is going to be right up Becca's alley thinks her husband. Blake is trying to win rightfully so neurotic Becca back after she found out he cheated.
One of the cast turns up missing after the first night, and the locked room (well, remote estate) mystery turns painfully real for Becca, who doesn't know who to trust, or which of the "suspects" is actually a suspect in the disappearance.
Jilly Gagnon takes a classic whodunnit trope and brings it into the modern age. All Dressed Up was unputdownable, and I'm eager to find a getaway murder themed weekend in the Catskills for myself! The fictional murder was fun and the thriller aspect of the "IRL" mystery really got into Becca's psyche.

I liked the premise in this so much! But somehow I didn't really buy the marriage or the other relationships, which made it very hard to get invested in the story. Also, the ending was a bit clunky. Overall, it felt like a rough draft of what was about to become a cool mystery.
The plot of All Dressed Up is based on a murder mystery weekend at a hotel in the Catskills. Blake has arranged the hotel stay as a way of working on his marriage with Becca although he failed to tell her that it was a murder mystery. Becca is angry and feeling sorry for herself in the aftermath of her discovery of Blake's affair. A lot of her thoughts over the course of the book are taken up with his infidelity, although, to her credit, she does come to recognize her role in the state of her marriage. All the people at the mystery weekend had alternate identities and it was difficult to keep everyone straight. The story also moved in and out of the mystery performance and that was confusing. I occasionally wished that things would move faster and I guessed the murderer before the end (but not the motive).
The mystery aspect was pretty good, but I found the emphasis on the wife's drama boring. That's not what I wanted to read. Sorry.
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine/Bantam via NetGalley.
I was not a fan of the writing style. It was hard to get into and the characters were unlikable. I was excited when I read the synopsis, but it didn’t follow through for me.
I fell in love with this thriller's premises. A dress-up murder mystery weekend at a remote manor! I would love to do it myself. But, I was disappointed. None of characters were interesting enough for me to care. The murder mysteries (both fake and real) were uninteresting. The main character's marriage problem is so all over the place and I lost interest. It's an okay mystery/thriller but not mind-blowing.
A decade themed murder mystery at a remote hotel. A marriage in trouble and a woman missing. Wow! This booked sucked me in from start to finish, and I read it in less than 8 hours! Becca’s husband Blake surprises her with what’s supposed to be a romantic weekend away after his recent indiscretion. When the game turns into a real life missing person story (which only Becca seems to realize), she makes it her mission to figure out what went wrong. A two - for - one mystery with misdirections, real and fake clues, and a fun 1920’s theme. I read it quickly and loved seeing how the story unfolded. I can’t wait to read more of Jill Gagnon’s books in the future! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
This was a fun read! A 1920s murder mystery party gone wrong. The premise was such a fun one and kept me guessing until the end. But i am not sure if that was due to the volume of characters and storylines happening. There was a lot to keep up with, but still was a good read!
Enjoyed this book. Didn’t really know why to expect. A remote hotel , a murder mystery. A cheating spouse what could go wrong? Everyone is suspicious and Becca finds her self with mystery around every corner. So good and twisty
This is a fun romp! Blake surprises wife Becca with a weekend away at a luxury hotel (more like a mansion) that's a Murder Mystery game that is so popular. Becca is still smarting from Blake's recent indiscretion and is leery about spending the weekend under an "assumed" name with a 1920's flapper theme. But she adores mysteries and is pleased Blake thought of it so...let's give it a try! But of course, appearance is rarely reality, and when one of the hosts actually turns up dead we know something nefarious is likely. Filled with witty dialogue and puns, the novel really is "all dressed up" with somewhere to go! Enjoyed it!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Becca and Blake are in the middle of a marriage crisis. Brought on by Blake’s betrayal, Becca is having a difficult time forgiving him, even with the help of a marriage counselor, the pain grips her heart. The weekend getaway, Blake has planned is an attempt to right the wrong. Set in an old manor, the 1920 murder mystery theme may just be the fun they need to remember why they love each other. Becca loves BBC crime dramas and she is intrigued by the mystery, fun clues and role-playing the weekend has to offer. But there is more than just fun going on, and when one of the actors disappears in real life, there is a real mystery to solve.
The story is written like a good mystery should, lots of misdirection, you’re not sure who is the actual villain, clues are dispersed throughout the story, some clues to solve the “fake” crime and some for the real crime but which are true? This was a very fun read, I enjoyed the story inside a story, solving two mysteries for the price of one. I will admit, I did get a bit tired of Becca’s anguish, I understood it, it added to the story line but at the same time, in certain places I felt it did not serve the storyline. The writing is good, characters are well developed, a couple of plot clues were a bit muffled for me but overall the story was enjoyable. How can you not enjoy a fun flapper themed mystery with an additional mystery to boot?
Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to review this book. I was drawn in by the premise and the initial character sketches, but became frustrated with the narrator and her constant internal monologue. And although it felt like the author tried to present plot points at a solid pace, the tension wasn't there for me and I lost interest. I would give this author's other books a try to see if it was a matter of the narrator's POV or that the style wasn't my taste.
Great idea, but for me the story was lacking something. It was very hard to stay interested.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC for an honest review.
I liked the concept and the setting, unfortunately I did not care for the main character and being in her head. I think it just dragged the story down too much right from the start.

This was a fairly tedious book to read, but also kind of fun. I’m happy to have read it, but it wouldn’t have a permanent home on my shelf.
