I love authentic cookbooks! I love to travel, partly because I love the food experiences in other countries. When I return home, I miss the variety and new dishes and often crave the deliciousness I just left. Typically, I am not able to find a restraint that offers the same level of authenticity. It makes my heart happy when I can create these dishes myself, in the comfort of my own home and kitchen. This cookbook, Spanish Cookbook for Beginners, offers authenticity as well as an understanding that I have no idea how to cook these dishes! In fact, some of the recipes are explained with content for young cooks/kids. The recipes offer step by step instructions as well as helpful tidbits to maintain the authenticity of the dish. Ingredients are listed with both customary and metric units of measurement. This book offers selections in Tapas and Pinchos, Meat and Fish, Vegetables and Salads, and Sweets. The photos capture the dish as well as the culture and serving options. At the end of the book you will find suggested menus as well as blank pages to add your own creations.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
What a lovely cookery book. Tried a few of the recipes and my favourites are - Chicken with Olives and Capers, Potatoes Rioja Style, Cheese-stuffed Piquillo Peppers and Meringue Milk Ice Cream. What i really like about the book is the photos for each recipe and the Menus in the back.
I would like to thank Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is filled with great recipes, and I will definitely be trying the chocolate and churros. The pictures look amazing, and I like that there is a section at the back of the book where you can add your own recipes.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC! Oh I love these recipes, the colors in the book and the images. I also like the notes on each recipes for ways to adjust/make it your own. Great read, I cannot wait to try out these recipes.
Lots of great easy recipes of dishes I have never made but saw on cooking shows. Lots of great photos and simple directions.
What a lovely thought and brilliant execution! I love Spanish food and everything in this book looks delicious. It includes the well-known paella, pan con tomate and the potato omlets as well as some delicacies I've never heard of. The ingredients are easy to obtain, the recipes are simple to make at home without much trouble. I really enjoyed the little snippets of cultural information given by the author. Very few pages are left blank intentionally at the end to use for your own recipes, too. An enjoyable, low-pressure cooking adventure.
This is a fantastic cookbook for people interested in learning about Spanish cuisine! All of the tapas recipes are so delicious and relatively simple to make.
I really like Spanish food, but have never made it before, so when I saw the title of this book, I knew I needed to read it! Each recipe has clear step by step instructions to guide you through, and most have accompanying photographs. There’s a wide range of recipes to suit all tastes, and the additional section to write your own recipes / notes at the back is a great touch. Proper authentic Spanish food, presented in a simple way - what more could you want?
Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review

I love cooking all kinds of different cuisines! So this cookbook was perfect for me. All the recipes sound absolutely delicious. The instructions are very clear, and easy to follow. I enjoyed the photos and descriptions of everything as well! Cannot wsit to try out some of these recipes.
YUM! This book is filled with everything you in order to make great Spanish food. It is fresh, it is classic, it is real food and it is delicious. And the recipes are easy to follow and easy to make.
The photos are great and make you fell hungry and ready to get in the kitchen and start cooking.
Loving this book and looking forward to cooking all the recipes soon. And I would recommend this book not just for beginners but for everyone who wants to try something new and tasty. The ingredients are simple, everyday ingredients, fresh and you don't have to hunt down strange bits and pieces you have never heard of which is great too,
More cooking is on the cards and I can't wait to work my way through the recipes in this lovely book.
While many think Spanish and Mexican cooking are the same, they aren’t; in fact they are totally different. Both are delicious, but Spanish cooking does not include the spicy chili-laden dishes that most of us are familiar with. For those who want to learn about and create authentic Spanish dishes, Spanish Cooking for Beginners: Simple and Delicious Recipes for All Occasions is a great place to start. This cookbook presents famous dishes such as Paella, as well as several varieties of tapas. There are also several mouthwatering recipes utilizing the best ingredients of Spain.
The recipes are written in standard form and are easy to follow. No matter what the cooking skill level, cooks will be able to create picture-perfect dishes. There are also beautiful photographs of almost every recipe, and just perusing this cookbook will make readers very hungry. There are also colorful illustrations that make the book fun.
If there is a negative to this cookbook it is that it doesn’t have enough recipes. There are only a few in each chapter, and readers and cooks will surely want more. Most of the recipes are fairly quick and definitely easy. They call for standard ingredients that are available at most mainline grocery stores. Many of the dishes call for Spanish paprika, which is one of the most used ingredients, as well as olive oil that is a mainstay in every Spanish home.
Anyone interested in learning about Spanish cooking will find this a good beginning. The recipes are definitely appealing, and the prose is well-written and informative.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
For Lovers of Spanish Food
Gabriela Llamas is a chef, teacher, caterer, author, and food promoter and presents her book "Spanish Cooking for Beginners. Simple and Delicious Recipes for All Occasions." It is one of the "... Cooking for Beginners" series, published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry (New Shoe Press). The book is divided into four sections: 1) Tapas and Pinchos, 2) Meat and Fish, 3) Vegetables and Salads, and 4) May Your Life be Sweet. Llamas gives and introduction to each section and states about the recipes: "Many of the recipes you will find in this book are a tale, a myth, a discovery, and an adventure. They are a return to our fascinating origins which today we can still enjoy with our senses and which we want to share with you" (p. 12).
The book is presented with a great design. There are menus, an index, and space for own recipes. Notes throughout the book are also helpful. It is for the lovers of Spanish food or those who are interested to gain more knowledge about it. It is simple and easy for beginners. I appreciate that this book gives the measurements in spoons/cups/ounces/pounds as well as in grams and milliliters.
I knew about smoked Spanish ham and I heard about Paella, but I was very interested in the book because that was the extend of my knowledge about Spanish cooking. I find this book very interesting and consequently recommend it for readers who are interested in Spanish recipes and for those who look for new inspirations.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a good beginners recipe book.
There's a lot of standard Spanish recipes and information on how to cook them. The recipes are in metric and cups. The recipes are straightforward and fairly simple. There's not a lot of information o the history of some of these recipes. There's some nice pictures of food, but not as many as I'd like.
Overall an ok find.
A super book for understanding and beginning the journey of Spanish cooking, informative with great photos and recipes that are easy to make. The tapas and pichos are mouth watering!
This is a great cookbook for beginners looking to try their hand at Spanish cooking!
I did a study-abroad in Salamanca, Spain, during college (very excited it even got a shout-out as one home to _jamon iberico_! Holla--or should I say _ole_?), so was excited to check this read out. It brought back a lot of memories--both of the trip and other places I've been blessed to enjoy Spanish food.
I was surprised that very few recipes included their Spanish names, and had to think a bit to come up with their Spanish equivalent. As challenging as the study-abroad trip was (LOL), I apparently did learn Spanish dish names before ever learning their English equivalents! I was looking for _albondigas_, _papas bravas_, _tortilla espanola_, and _gazpacho_ before cluing in they were listed as _meatballs_, _spicy potatoes_, _potato omelet_, and _cold vegetable soup_. Sometimes the Spanish name made it into the commentary or variations, which was awesome--but since it wasn't defined prior, newbies coming in cold (no pun intended :D) may be confused at first.
Perhaps my favorite part of the book was its use of fresh ingredients and pantry staples. No hunting for niche smoked paprika from an obscure region of Spain only available online, thank you! :) (Not that I'd be opposed to that ... hmm ...)
All in all, a delicious trip down memory lane.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I love tapas and pinchos so this book was good for me. Beautiful photos of Spain, though I would have liked more photos of the food from the recipes. The recipes were quite simply written so I do think a beginner should be able to follow them. However, beware you will feel extremely hungry while reading!
Love Spanish food and tapas and looking forward to trying these recipes. Thanks for sharing. one suggestion would be to. add where we might be able to get some of the more unusual ingredients and spices.
About 15 years ago I watched a show with Gwyneth Paltrow where she traveled Spain. It stuck with me so when I saw this book I had to read it!
This book is like taking a trip to Spain without a passport! The recipes are wonderfully written and the pictures are beautiful. I cannot wait to make all the meal plans included in the back of the book.
I really like the concept and everything is easy to understand but ofcourse I live in a town in Ontario Canada that doesn’t get much variety is ingredients so I couldn’t really try the recipes.
I do recommend this cookbook if your stores aren’t lacking .
Thank you to Netgalley and New Shoe Press for this arc ecookbook in exchange for an honest review.
This is truly a beginner’s cookbook. It has a solid number of traditional Spanish recipes. I wish that the dishes would be listed in Spanish and that there would be more background about the foods/traditions. Spanish food is a passion of mine, so I know the history and importance of some of these dishes but a beginner would not.
