I have binge read all of these books, so feel like I'm just getting a little burned out. The story line was good. But why does Morgan always end up in a hard spot?? Good suspense, but i feel like I just need a break from this series.

Morgan has a new puzzling case at hand. A woman is killed, and then another, but no proper suspect. Her private life seems to move on.

I have really grown to like the team members, and I absolutely love spending time with them while solving murders. I found this book to be a bit more stable when it came to relationships, not sure if I like it better like this or not, but it did not make such an impact on me like in the earlier books in the series. On the other hand, it is nice to see people change and grow.

The case itself had me hooked from the beginning, since I had a feeling this one will not be easy to solve, and there will be many intriguing twists and turns. I was absolutely right! I devoured this book in a few hours, and now I am craving more!

Sleeping Dolls from Helen Phifer is the six book In the DC Morgan Brookes series and what a fantastic book it is.
We back with Morgan and the Cast Team at Rydal falls when they a called to the body of slightly decamped Shirley Kelly. Her throat has been cut in a vicious attack. Not all, the mirrors at the scene are covered and the clock at the scene is stopped at 6’oclock. We later learn that it is a Victorian tradition when death occurs.
Morgan and Ben’s relationship is going strength to strength and now moved into together. They are like to lovesick teenagers but still able to get the work done. And needs must as they need to discover who killed Shirley. When another neighbour in the same street is murdered. Is the two deaths linked and why is this person killing these people? As both victims seem to live on their own and not been in any trouble with anyone recently.
This is another addictive story in the series that I got hooked from page one. Great characters and we have a new good-looking boss Marc on the scene. But the author hasn’t revealed much about him. Maybe we will find out more in the next book. This has great twists and turns and some red herrings along the way. Until the killer is revealed. Fab 4 stars from me.

I just can't believe that we are at book six in this fabulous series and it shows no sign of letting up in it's greatness.

I have been a fan of and followed this series since book one and I have yet to be disappointed, its engaging, absorbing, chilling, a real heart stopper!

Catching up with Morgan and the team is like being reunited with friends.

It is never a chore to read one of Helen's books she is an extremely talented author who absorbs you hook line and sinker, a well earner five stars from me.

I enjoyed this book but it didn't excite me as much as previous ones in this series. I think now that Morgan's past has been put behind her she is just another police officer albeit one with PTSD from her last case. I don't really like the relationship between her and Ben, they just don't seem right together. At the same time I did like the way the author alternated between the past and the present, it really kept me turning the pages and trying to guess who the young boy had become. I got quite a shock when I found out, I hadn't considered that option at all.

suspense, thriller, procedural, murder, murder-investigation, series, law-enforcement, relationship-issues, vendetta, PTSD, suspicion, England*****

This is the first I have read by this author but that didn't impair my enjoyment a bit. It opens with
DC Morgan Brookes and her boss/partner DS Ben Matthews called to investigate a vile odor in a residence and finding a days old corpse complete with maggots. The mirrors are all covered and the clocks are stopped. And the autopsy shows that she has been strangled. Later, an obvious murder with the same stage-setting is discovered. This really is a fast-paced thriller with lots going on! A good read!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Helen Phifer book’s are so good to read. They have me hooked from the start and this was no exception.

Morgan comes across a dead body, but what is with the creepy covered mirrors and the stopped clocks? When a second victim is found with similar creepy goings on, how is it related?

With plenty twist turns and red herrings, this one kept me guessing until the very end.

Nice to see Morgan and Ben happy, the banter with Amy and Des remaining grumpy. Also good to see a more emotional side to Cain.

Really enjoyed this 5 stars

This was an enjoyable wee read. I'll definitely be looking until the rest of the series. A cleverly written who dun it mystery with a split timeliness and some nice historical accuracies that were quite interesting to read about. I'm assuming if you've read the rest of the series then the characters will be a lot more defined and realistic but even having just read this one, the characters were relatable enough for you to really feel for them and empathise with the tragedies and the fear. Overall I'd recommend

Even though this is book 6 in this series it can easily be read as a stand alone book, infact the references to previous happenings makes me want to read them. I really enjoyed this book, fast paced plenty going on, sadness for the victims and hatred for the perpetrator just how it should be. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

I liked Sleeping Dolls (Detective Morgan Brookes Book 6) by Helen Phifer and the characters right off the bat, except for Ben. There is something about his character that rubs me the wrong way. The story read like a crime show, with good descriptions to pull you into the scenes. I did find that I started to get bored during the middle of the book and skimmed some of the pages to get to the heart of the story as it was not actiony, so it took me a long time to read. I fit the reading in when I could rather than wanting to finish the book.

The story was not as "unputdownable" as the premise stated. I liked Morgan, and the storyline was okay. I will check out more from this author. Overall, a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

A digital ARC of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and Bookouture. The opinions are my own and freely given.

Oh Morgan! She just can't stay out of trouble, no matter how hard she tries. There are 2 dead bodies. 1 has been dead a few days and is already starting decomp when it's discovered. The other is a woman that the police go to check on, only to find her dying.

This story flips from present day to 1989, telling the story of a little boy growing up in a mansion with his grandmother.

I learned about a Victorian tradition of covering mirrors, stopping clocks and flipping over photos of the deceased. Yes, that's real and I researched the meaning behind that, before some of it was explained.

Morgan really didn't go into the scene looking for trouble. She innocently went to find someone when she was attacked. There was a scene where I actually cringed, not what I was expecting to happen.

As always, Morgan Brookes is stellar, and I highly recommend this series. Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Helen Phifer.

Yes! Helen Phifer has done it again, giving us a fast-paced who-done-it that keeps you guessing right to the end.

Morgan Brookes is back for her 6th instalment, and we pick up just a few months from where we left off. Morgan is back to work after the harrowing ending of the last book and is injected right back into the action.

In book 6 we start with the team discovering a suspicious death in an apartment and, soon after, a second murder that has connections to the first. There is lots of action as the team goes between the scenes to figure out the similarities and catch the killer before he can strike again.

We have some new characters introduced in this book and are reacquainted with old friends. I love the development of Morgan and Ben's relationship, and Ben is as sarcastic and charming as always.

I also love that there was an Easter egg to another Helen Phifer novel, though there are no spoilers in this book or the other and not reading the other will not affect your enjoyment of this one. It was just fun to see.

Thank you to Netgalley, Helen Phifer, and Bookouture for my complimentary digital copy. I am leaving a voluntary review. As always, all opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this read. It is well written with great characterisation and a compelling storyline. It was atmospheric and well paced and twisty. A great read.

Enjoyed reading this one. I do have to say, that after reading it, I am not crazy about the title. I don't think it really goes well with the premise of the story. Other than that, I did like seeing a reference to Helen Phifer's stand alone -Lakeview House.

I look forward to seeing what happens with Morgan in the next book.

Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.

I love this series and this latest entry does not disappoint! Detective Morgan Brookes and her boss/partner Sergeant Ben Matthews are called to the house of woman reported missing. Her decomposing body is within smelling distance so they force entry into the house. It might be a natural death, except that a rug has been placed to impede access to the house, the clocks are stopped and the mirrors are covered. Then another woman is killed and the hunt is one to find the killer before he strikes again. A fast-paced thriller of a mystery, and I appreciate that the personal relationship of Morgan and Ben doesn't overwhelm the story at all.

Wow now this is a read that from the first page I got sucked into and didn't want to stop reading it, the way the story starts really sets up the atmosphere as well as the tone , that even makes it a bit darker then the other books before it , and the inter action between the characters showed how much they've grown . Once of the things I love about this one was you got to see how much Ben Matthews and out main character loved each other, how they was there for each other and went out of their way to make sure the other one knew that no matter what the day throw at them , their always have each other backs. And the story it self was Chilling in places, as well as intense to the point that there was times I was setting on the edge of my set.

✨Book review✨
Sleeping Dolls
By Helen Phifer

This book navigates a string of murders, investigated by our main character, Detective Morgan Brookes. This is apparently the 6th book in this character’s series, however, this was a first read for me, and I found it read really well as a stand-alone.

This was a great book! The characters were well written, the plot was interesting and not overstated. The chapters were quick, the storyline maintained a good flow through out the entire book, and there were definite shocks and twists!

The only thing I disliked, was that I felt there could have been more of a storyline between the two main characters, and would have loved to dive deeper into their personal relationship. A little bit of steamy spice would have been awesome!

This was a great thriller nonetheless, and I feel it’s worth a read. Publishing date for this one is June 13th, so put that on your calendar!

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @bookouture for sending me an E-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Yet again another brilliant book by Helen, loving the way that the stories of the characters are developing and you can see the relationships developing. Nice to see that its a steady team of officers deadling with each case rather than loads being thrown in and the story becoming confusing trying to remember who is who. As usual this kept me gripped from the start and again its the same with all Helen's books in so much as 'just one more chapter before I switch Kindle off' this goes on for about an hour so needless to say devoured this book in a couple of nights. I keep wondering if Annie & Morgan would work well together on a case, just a thought lol ;o) Keep up the good work Helen and heres to many more

Gripping crime thriller.
DC Morgan Brookes and the CAST team at Rydal Falls.
Love this series another blinder from the author.
Shirley Kelly is found strangled in her flat, with missing hair, a stopped clock and covered mirrors it's someone with an obsessing with the Victorian times that comes to Morgan's mind.
Wow what a twisted read, I loved every chapter there is never a dull moment for this team, as we go through all the ups and downs Morgan is now getting on even better with Ben Matthews as well as a working partnership and living together they are good for each other, he is her rock through all her troubles that have happened in the past.
the author has delivered once again to her readers with gruelling stories there is always something happening to keep your eyes wide open.
I'm left a happy reader giving top stars for this fantastic read.

Detective Morgan Brookes is assigned to a new murder case. A victim, Shirley Kelley, has been found dead in her home and the circumstances are unusual. Soon, another victim is found and the murders are connected. A new DI named Marc has just arrived in town and is complicating the atmosphere. How will he fit in? Will Morgan be able to solve this case before anymore victims are found?

This is my first book by this author. There are several books in the series before this one but I was able to step into it ok. It was a good read so I might go back and read the others sometime.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
