I received an electronic ARC from First Second Books through NetGalley.
The three friends gather again to encourage Blue to go through with his poetry reading even though he is scared. They use Barry's newly invented time helmet to go back to the past and meet Blue's ancestors and see how they were brave enough to share their poetry. Enough humor, danger and adventure to keep upper elementary readers interested and learning. Jason slips in some facts from each time period as they journey back to the Ice Age. The artwork is fun to study and enhances the story. The final solution to get back to the present is just ridiculous enough to work for them.
I appreciate the game and hat craft included at the end. This offers readers a chance to interact further with the characters and book.
Another Blue, Barry & Pancakes book?!? YES! My students are going to be so excited for the 5th installment in this series and this story is wonderfully funny! This book involves traveling back in time and of course, best friend antics, perfect for young readers!
Another fun adventure to add to a popular early graphic novel series! Love the high energy and silliness of the characters as they explore and find new escapades. Highly recommend.
This graphic novel is interesting and hilarious and is bound to entertain readers in the age 6-11 range. Coming in at slightly over 100 pages, the large illustrations and speech bubbles allow this book to be a quick and easy to follow book, yet feel like a longer text. It is the perfect transitionary text for readers ready to move on from short picture books but not quite ready for longer chapter books with more text. As a grade 3 teacher I could definitely see this book being a hit with my students! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the early copy of this book.
Sometimes it's hard to be brave, so when Blue gets nervous as he prepares for his poetry reading, his friends help him travel back in time to secure good luck charms from his ancestors that will give him the courage he needs. When misfortune strikes and he finds himself back home in the current time period, Blue learns he had what he needed all along. This is a cute graphic novel series that emphasizes the importance of friendship. I am looking forward to sharing this one with my students.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me an advance copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read this book and leave my review voluntarily.
Blue is about to recite an original poem on stage, when he realizes that he needs more bravery than he has. What's a worm to do? If you have a friend like Barry, you put on time-traveling hats and visit a brave relative in the past for help.
As it turns out, a lucky quill may not do the trick, so...it's off to another ancestor!
It's a great read...the illustrations of Blue (the worm) are funny, and I normally love books like this, but I don't think I'd want to revisit Big Time Trouble. So my score is more than 3, but less than 4. Your results may vary!
3.4/5 Stars
Thanks to First Second Books and NetGalley for the preview of this fun book; the review is voluntary.

Blue, Berry, and Pancake are at it again. This time Blue is about to present his poem in front of an audience for the first time ever. Yet when stage fright gets the better of him it is Barry to the rescue. With the help of time traveling hats the three friends are able to go on an adventure to meet Blue’s relatives all who are noted poets. Will these relatives be able to help Blue feel confident enough to finally read his poem out loud?
This is such a cute book! Just such a great way to present to kids that sometimes the only thing you truly need in order to step outside your box and try something new is someone there to support you. Kids need to hear this message and I think this is just such a fun light heated way to take on something that so many kids deal with. Thank you for showing them that they truly only need to believe in themselves and have someone who loves them there to help them along the way.
Thank you to First Second Books and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.
