A sweet and important middle grade story that I wouldn't hesitate to give to any reader, especially those who don't often see themselves in stories.

Eren is dealing with a lot of expectations from her mom, her friends, and society, but most of the time, she'd rather be in the woods, trail riding on her bike. However, a chance meeting with a bird reveals that the world is in danger from Fangs that sow doubt wherever they go. The only way to stop them is to anchor herself in truth, but growing up and finding her identity is hard enough without danger lurking around every corner.

I loved being in this world. It was scary but full of little victories and a lot of hope. The characters were well-rounded. The representation was done well, and included asexuality, bisexuality, aromanticism, and gender questioning, all woven into the story naturally but satisfactorily. Add on a thrilling plot and beautiful writing, and we get an absolute winner. I want to read this book again and again. I'll definitely be sharing it with all my reading groups, particularly for young people who question what it means if they don't feel like dating.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this audio ARC. All opinions are my own.

What a sweet surprise! A queer-ace YA fantasy novel. Was not expecting that at all. The characters were fun, the narration was engaging. I have very few complaints about this book. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys YA or queer reads. Well done!

This book is a fun middle grade read.
Eren Evers is a normal seventh grader. Her friends are pressuring her about dating, while all she cares about us making it through the school year. Eren finds peace in riding her bike through the woods. After rescuing a fallen bird on her bike path, Eren is thrown into a kingdom of birds.

This book is interesting in that it is set in two places at once. We get to see the every day life of Eren, but also the magical kingdom of the birds.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review: 5 stars.

This is a beautiful middle grade about being true to yourself and setting boundaries while facing hopelessness and self doubt. The asexual and aromantic representation was very well done (and if I’m honest very relatable) This would be a wonderful addition to any school library where it can get into the hands who need it most.

This was a fantastic book. The magic was just so beautiful. The meaningful questions about identity are just so relevant. I loved the depictions of diversity. Not all children have crushes and that’s ok. I loved the message that is ok to not be the same as everyone else but to live your truth. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an audio arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
