A little too much champagne, a magical show courtesy of the universe and two relative strangers end up together in a one night stand. But the meteor shower they watched together was no ordinary celestial event, something they discover only after they call for help when they realize they’ve locked their keys in the car at a deserted Oregon beach. No one answers any of their phone calls and from all around them come unearthly screams and groans. The tide comes in, and continues to rise until it reaches their car, leaving the two survivors (and a dog) to find a way to survive in a world they no longer understand. I had a moment of real dislike for these characters when they ignore the beloved dog as it bleeds out. If that part was edited out or rewritten, I would have enjoyed this book much more, as it stands, both characters come across as shallow and unfeeling
